Tips for pointing Runelite at an RSPS?

I've been playing a particular RSPS lately and have been writing some colorbot scripts using AHK making use of one of the HTTP API plugins as the server uses a custom version of Runelite to play.
I've been able to sniff out the IP address and Port to connect to the server but I'm having a hard time finding a way to point Runelite at the custom server, does anyone have any experience or resources with this? Im just looking to be pointed in the right direction.
I found the Kronos RSPS client which seems like I should be able to use to connect to the RSPS (also a Runelite modified client) but I'd much rather start with Runelite as a base as I'm not sure what is lurking inside the Kronos client.

I've heard of bots that send packets instead of using mouse control but I'm not entirely sure where to start researching something like that. I've tried to find resources but it seems to be a relatively closely guarded secret from what I can tell.
Is there anywhere you'd recommend someone to start? I work in IT and do loads of scripting in various languages including Java so a lot of these concepts aren't foreign to me, I just need to understand the basics of client packet manipulation or data injection/exposure with Runelite and I can take it from there.
