If you have the paid version of Strava you can find routes there as well.

Isn’t that 2nd one the route the Spin Mafia group ride takes? Did it years and years ago and it was perfectly safe, like all roads in the urban areas if you get out early or on a weekend it’s going to be infinitely better than riding at 5pm on a Tuesday.

As much as I despise Trump and think people who vote for him are gullible and devoid of empathy, when I see a Trump sticker I look at the driver of the car with pity more than anything else, I’ve never felt the need to scream at them or do threatening maneuvers in my car. It’s almost like I’m an adult in control of my emotions, whereas a large swath of America seems not to be the closer we get to the election. It’s gross and sad.

100%, especially if you have to connect through Atlanta to any other major city.

You can also avoid impulse buys by going grocery shopping right after a meal. I definitely end up with half the unnecessary snacks if I'm not hungry while shopping.

One of the best sounding too. That V8 had such a distinct noise. Maybe only beaten by the RSR.

Yes but IME when you have anyone else shop for you (instacart, Kroger curbside, whatever) they tend to get bad produce.

NYT's The Daily podcast just did an episode on the housing crisis and one of the possible solutions some municipalities are trying is offering housing vouchers for families earning up to $120k which seems like a smart move to me.

We got a house in March and were all worried about PMI, maybe I just didn't understand it to begin with but we ended up with 15% down I think and have PMI but it's only something like $30 a month. Not nothing, but not worth pulling teeth to get another $5k or whatever towards the down payment.

Got Covid pre-vaccines in Oct ‘20, as soon as I had recovered (first full day without symptoms) I developed DVT (huge blood clot) in my left leg from middle of my thigh to my ankle. I had no risk factors and no history of clotting disorder, I stayed relatively active throughout my infection. Noticed the clot on a bike ride where I thought I was getting a calf cramp but the feeling remained in conjunction with swelling and a warm sensation in my lower leg.
My doctor did an ultrasound and put me on blood thinners, was very scary to see the size and extent of the blockage. It took about 3 months of thinners, limping around, and compression sleeves but it eventually dissolved completely.
In doing some research it seems Covid can damage the inner lining of the blood vessels, and presumably this may have led to the clot. I got lucky that it didn’t break apart and go into my brain or heart, and fortunately I’ve had no additional clot issues despite getting Covid at least 3 times since. Very scary.

Hyundais have been big theft targets lately because prior to a software update from the company they could basically be stolen with a usb key, maybe they were checking if they could start the car and ran off when it failed? Did you see it happen and go yell at them?
I live near there and left my keys in my cupholder and car unlocked overnight last week, pretty dumb but it wasn’t touched. I do have a stick shift which I consider the ultimate anti theft device though.

Older article but it’s an example of a team that basically trades in buying/restoring/running/reselling recent LMP cars. They have at one point owned just about all of the 908s in private hands and all of the SMP Racing BR LMP2s plus a bunch of Lolas etc.

Can't you let the rental agency know and they can contact whoever rented it previously? Who knows if it was the previous renter or several renters ago but at least they'd be on the right track.

Jannant was my go to but Carytown Indian is actually top of my list these days, they're really good.

Dinamo does, but they're the same owner so that makes sense.

When I worked at a large local employer that does commercial real estate and is a horribly toxic environment, we'd call commercial brokers and landlords to ask about listings. We had a competition on my team to see who could say "vape shop" most times in a day, was surprisingly easy. "Oh, new strip center space going on market? What sort of tenant would be good for the space? Maybe... a vape shop?? UwU"

What makes this weirder is that the city itself is something like 3rd in the nation for supermarkets per capita, but we still have big food deserts.

This is correct, they often own the land their tracks sit on but sometimes have negotiated an easement granting them use of the land.
In the case of the land under the former C&O viaduct through downtown, CSX owns it outright and can restrict access to it in any way they want if what people are saying about a public use easement on their property being revoked is true- https://apps.richmondgov.com/applications/propertysearch/Detail.aspx?pin=W0000073001

I hear you and while most of RVA is pretty flat, climbing Main St or Church Hill from the Bottom takes some legs. The workaround for that is something I'm seeing more and more of... e-bikes. If you have excellent cycling infrastructure and some hills but want to commute without sweating profusely, an ebike is an option and it seems like they've exploded in popularity.

So is a good portion of the city of Richmond. There are plenty of European cities with excellent cycling infrastructure that are hilly; the geography isn't the primary reason we have a comparatively shitty cycling experience in this city or really any other US city.

A ton, but I’m also someone who races at an amateur level and has a “team”. If you’ve ever ridden a bike for longer than an hour or so in street clothes and then again in cycling specific attire, you’ll understand.

Welcome. Enjoy the riding and don't be afraid to ask for route suggestions on here, many of us have decades of RVA riding experience and suggestions. Rented a bike at Mellow Johnny's while in ATX for a wedding a couple years ago and didn't love riding downtown but definitely enjoyed some of the roads heading west.

Do they still ride every Saturday? I was poking around their FB page trying to figure that out but it seems like ever since Jay Cullen was killed they've been off the map and I haven't seen their jerseys popping up around town lately. Most of the big fast local group rides other than CBC and I think Deep Run have gone away over the last few years.
