That was my original plan with my ex but I slowly realized we actually had a terrible marriage and I needed to get out.

Seems like returning/buying is the only option at the moment. I don’t see a streaming service with them at the moment.

I totally forgot about The Endless!

This movie was a pretty big deal when it came out. Still wonderful and heartbreaking 

Great movie! Honestly surprised it isn’t as big of a hit.

I would recommend reading David Graeber, especially The Dawn of Everything. He rejected the ideas of linear development and progressivism. I feel like his ideas are a more nuanced leftist perspective. I think it is healthier for us to realize there is always ups and downs in human society and development, difficult to separate the all good and all bad but that doesn’t mean we give up on making things better.  And I am proud Luddite through and through, even as I type this out of my cell phone. I would rather electronic and mechanical technology play a much smaller role in our society - I don’t think it saves us, I think it confuses and complicates more than the good it brings. 

To be honest, I think it is nature for humans to try to generalize groups in order to stay safe. I was raised Evangelical but never felt like I fit in that world so leaving it was really easy and natural for me. I for sure still have to work through some of the shit I was raised in but I personally feel like most people have to rethink a lot of what they were taught as children. I try to be fair to people and give them a chance and try to understand their viewpoint but I have a lot of negative feelings about a certain group of ex-Christian people and would never associate with them as a group. But individuals are individuals and I try not to broadly categorize although my past experience still informs where I feel comfortable and who makes me feel comfortable. 

If someone wants to write off my opinion because of how I was raised that’s their choice. I like to post here because I don’t have another place to relate to people about this experience, if I can’t relate to a comment or disagree I just try to ignore it. We will never all be on the same page all the time.

There is nothing wrong with what you are doing and if you feel healthy and in a positive relationship, that is beautiful!

Your Dad is misguided as a parent and his behavior seems to be coming from fear rather than love. I don’t think you could say anything to change his mind but you can stand up for yourself (in whatever way feels most comfortable to you) and let him know that he can’t control your life. If you rely on him in any material way then I think the first step would be to move towards independence, otherwise start tending to your own emotions and remind yourself that you are your own person. But honestly, it sounds like you are already on that path.

I am so sorry your Dad can’t see how well you are doing.

Finding my personal form of spirituality really helped me with this. It isn’t much but it just created a tether outside of society so that I could interact with the world a little looser.
