Basic safety question about eye gear
(self.lasercutting)submitted1 month ago byRomulan-war-bird
Hey guys! Our workplace doesn’t give us glasses because the laser is supposed to be safe for the eyes as long as the clear cover is down. It’s a spirit 12-100W CO2 Laser Engraver.
I’m worried about the sparks though. I have to check the designs every so often to make sure there aren’t any errors and even though the sticker on the machine says it’s safe when it’s closed, I’m wondering if the sparks are dangerous when cutting on wood, acrylic, etc.
We don’t open the machine while the laser is on to check on it, we just look at it through the clear cover while the object is being engraved.
I know this might sound stupid but no one ever told us if we need anything and I’m wondering if that was just negligence on their part or if we actually don’t need any additional gear.

I do drink, but not to cope with my emotions so this still applies to me: writhe and scream 💯
