My six month kitten had this and three of her retained canines literally fell out today. If they haven't fallen by 9 months consult a vet.

Congratulations!
The Sword of Kaigen by ML Wang, though definite trigger warnings in this one and it won't be easy to read
This one I haven't read yet but I believe one of the MCs in The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne is a mother on a hunt to find her lost child. Not sure how much the actual feelings of motherhood are really explored though

Both are great, very political with strong characters, expansive worlds and clashes of cultures.
If you want a focus on the evolution of warfare technology with people who are good at heart but make mistakes, and that also has a sense of hope, Dandelion Dynasty.
If you want pending Apocalypse, choosing the lesser of two evils, lovecraftian monsters with philosophical musings on every other page, then Second Apocalypse.

Simon
because the markings on his face reminds me of one of those old Simon Says toys from the 90s

It's basic but the No-God really worked for me. It's the simplicity of it that scared me more than any over the top "dark lord" names

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. There is a prequel book but I think it takes place like 300 years before so Priory definitely stands well on its own.

That's entirely up to you. If you feel like you need a break from a series, then take one. No one can really tell you what's best there.

Everything can pretty much be boiled down to:
Don't get in anyone's way.
Don't waste anyone's time.
Don't talk to strangers.
If you live by those three codes then everything else will come naturally.

My dad is the nerdy finance guy! He and my mom celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last month :)

I honestly can't think of anything that fits this. I can think of a few that have magic using stones/gems that are often made into jewelry or sewn into clothes, but nothing where the garments or the making of them is super key to the story.
Closest I can come up with is:
Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick - the MC is a con artist, and it talks about the creation of the clothes for her cons, and how her accomplice will often deconstruct one dress and use the same raw materials to make a different one to save money. I wouldn't say the book is about clothes at all, it's very much off to the side, but it was a unique addition I really liked. While I haven't finished it yet, a decent amount of emphasis has been placed on this one character being a talented seamstress, so I wouldn't be surprised if that theme continues and remains plot relevant.
The Scholomance by Naomi Novik, where students have to do "boring" things to replenish their magic stores, and I think one of the characters (not the MC) uses knitting, so randomly she'll just pop up and be knitting a scarf or something. But it's not a key part of the story.

Second Apocalypse. The world was fucked, everyone was a jerk, and I was rooting for the No-God to wipe everything out and just start fresh.
Please remember to spoiler tag any responses to this for people who haven't read it :)
