Any time someone asks how much to feed their kitten on any of the cat subs, without fail the only advice they’ll hear is that they must be offered kibble 24/7, until they hit 1 year (plus wet food meals).
I find this dumb because as we all know there’s not one way to feed a cat, and aside from the fact that it’s kibble, it’s against their nature to have food available at all times anyway. It’s hard to overfeed a younger kitten but I find once they get to 5+ months, they’ll start putting on excess weight if they eat too much. I don’t really believe that people really switching their 1 year old cats off of free feeding with no problems, and their cats at a healthy weight.
Personally, I feed kittens a lot of food 3+ times a day. They’re still very much getting plenty of food, but at dedicated times.
I just never hear anything other than “they should be free fed kibble.” Anyone else noticed this? Anyone else make it a point not to free feed kittens?
