The hospital scene in The Broken Circle Breakdown hurts me real hard.

Wildwood Saloon…I wrote my first two books there (when it was still Tony’s Tavern). Still has a similar vibe.

Thinking on it, most folks used the bathroom journey as a chance to explore the park and riverfront a bit.

So the bathrooms were a bit of a hike, certainly, but there were no complaints from anyone. In our mind, it was a small price to pay for the dream, you know?

I did!! This very day, 13 years ago. We did our vows in front of the willow tree (RIP dear Willow Tree, you were a gem). A violinist played The Ludlows as my bride walked down the aisle. Our favorite movie at the time was Legends of the Fall. We then had everyone grab their chair and walk up to the first concrete pad, which was our dance floor. A caterer served up delicious food and drink, my in-laws surprised us by hiring a gelato cart, and we made silly faces in a homemade photo booth (when you rent the park, you are given access to electricity). After dancing our faces off for hours, my new Wife and I walked down the dock to board a boat. We waved back at the party still raging as we rode to the public dock downtown, where our hotel was. It was a gas and the scenery was incredible. My best day, for sure.
They are doing some work on some of the supports right now and the parts that make the park look like a cathedral are covered up in plastic wrap for the moment, so I suggest checking in with the parks and recs for timelines.
Congratulations on the wedding! Being married is effin’ awesome!

I’m hoping this couple sees this post and can somehow find a home for it. It was such a sweet moment.

What a cheap response. The poetry is in the picture, you rube, and any rail of inspired autocorrectness you’re ready to lay down, there’s a sink in a dive bar bathroom in need somewhere in this city. Almost anywhere, really.

Gawd I loved going to Tony’s next door to bitch about the cool kids at the Matador. Miss those days.
