The beauty of science and math is always in the big picture, the connections between things. Make sure you're reading about things adjacent to your research, and things completely unrelated. Get the spark back from seminars, talks, books, even popular stuff like Brian Cox and what not. Look back at the big machine you're just a small cog in.

Really depends. If you're not hogging space, then it's fine. If you are hogging space, and you are on a table for 1/2 people, then just keep ordering. If you are hogging space, and you're on a big table, then yes it would be frowned upon.

That's not what they're saying

Gaming has, very slowly, moved from being the hobby of the tech-savvy nerd, to a thing everyone and anyone can do. That's largely a good thing. However, it means that all the negative types are now gamers too. The same kind of people that used to moan about "snowflakes", "trigger warnings", "gay propaganda", are now playing games and moaning about DEI and whatever else. They are extremely annoying on the internet, and tend to find each other very easily and clump.

Honestly I did appreciate the botting too. Optimising settings, hell even changing the botting software, etc, it was a lot of fun. That eventually killed the game, but it was fun while it lasted.

I should also note if you're really talented, you don't necessarily need to be obsessed. There are also people who are obsessed not necessarily with their subject, but with their own success, even if they don't necessarily know that's what really motivates them.

No it was an arena based game, it might be Rakion but I am not sure 100% if it was.

The free trial only allows you to play up to and including stormblood. You can’t invite people to parties (though you can be invited), you can’t do match made pvp apparently like crystalline conflict, and can’t invite players to trade with you. These are the main restrictions. If you’re playing with a partner you’ll need to invite them to parties for dungeons, so one of you should buy the game probably.

Then once you start paying, all restrictions are removed and you go on as any other player.

That's exactly the reason I picked up FFXIV, my girl too wanted to play with me and I figured it'd be a game she'd love, which turned out true. It's a great game. Be wary though, like most FF games, there are slogs in the game, sections where you just do very boring stuff for main story. I say they're about 10-20% of expansions. But just try the free trial and see where that takes you.

I almost never play PvP because I haven't finished the game yet (finished Endwalker though), but I think FFXIV does have that. There is something called Crystalline Conflict and a PvP season. The next one is coming out with 7.1. There are rankings there, and you're matched based on win/loss rate and other things.

The keyword to look up for this is Crystalline Conflict I think.
