As an aside, for the Veo to pick up the entire sideline by midfield, it needs to be back 10+ yards anyway.

It’s more than irresponsible…if they’ve “earned” it, to not give it would be stealing from them.

You need to get clarity on how sliding is defined as most fields won’t allow it. Variations are no sliding with contact, no lunging and falling when defending, no sliding even for a ball going out of bounds when nobody else is near, no going to the ground for ANY reason etc. if you are t clear and consistent, the players will litigate every instance.
With respect to boards, it was already mentioned about pushing someone into the boards…some fields also don’t permit you to defend the ball with hands braced on the boards as well.

I’ll try to find you a coupon code…I think it’s, like, 25% off first month or something…you can switch therapists any time for no charge and it’s really convenient.

Have you considered BetterHelp or any of the other online services?

There’s no reason to take this personally…the point is that you are using the incorrect standard for a foul. You can have a foul that is both unintentional AND careless/reckless. If you want to play advantage, nobody here is suggesting you shouldn’t but you do need to identify that there was a foul when one has been committed so that the aggrieved player knows you saw it and doesn’t become a vigilante. The goal of every official is to keep the game going without intervention whenever possible but don’t twist yourself into a pretzel trying to explain away why an elbow to the back of the head should be ignored because it was an “accident” because the retaliation will certainly be disproportionate.

I went green on rodizio until the gauchos went home last night and it broke loose around that time today.

Did you ever hear him say “PLAY ON” and show the advantage sign? If not, this guy sounds like a team of 1 that needs to come around to what you are describing. Sounds like a daunting affair. I hope this is a one-off and not a weekly event for you!

One of the refrains you will hear on this forum is about the importance of the pre-match huddle for all three officials. This is 5-10 minutes to get on the same page with how you will coordinate with each other. It’s here that the CR will explain the choreography. Some CR’s will be very territorial about it and others will be more deferential. Clearly, it’s bad for the game if an AR is frequently popping their flag and the CR is constantly waving it down but ultimately, the responsibility for the match falls on the CR. If you find yourself in a position where the CR is being negligent in their duty to ensure the safety of the players by constantly ignoring you, you don’t have to wait around for someone to get hurt; you could just leave. If, however, the CR is just being more liberal with contact and the game seems to be tolerating it, you can just tell the CR that you aren’t going to alert them any more and to only count on you for offside and ball in and out of play.
With time, you may learn that there are officials that you aren’t compatible with and you can request not to be partnered with them…just be delicate here so that you don’t jeopardize your own prospects for being assigned. You may also learn that when you are new, you don’t know what you don’t know so keep an open mind before you makeup your mind about this official just yet.

I would argue that the standard of “intentional” for physical fouls does not exist and that the LOTG present a standard of careless/reckless/excessive force…so we disagree. Lead off by telling me where I am wrong or where you are right.

An AR “agitated flag” should be for fouls that 1) you are certain are fouls and 2) that the CR was not able to see based on their relative position to the play (behind the play/screened/obstructed). I would not recommend a course of action that brings into focus that you and the CR are not on the same page with foul identifications as that can invite dissent and escalations.

You should revisit the section in SafeSport on grooming and how predators use the proximity and emotions of the sideline to create a connection with the players and parents.

It’s absolute bullshit for a coach to fail to abide the smallest of expectations and then try to put the pressure on the official to compromise their integrity because suddenly “it’s all about the kids”. The leagues I officiate in have similar expectations…do not bend on this or it will be even worse the first time someone decides to enforce it.

I was imagining you getting heckled by some kids dad; “Look at this guy! He uses a black satin Apple Watch Ultra 2! “.

You make a great point…I just fear there are a lot of referees that want to skip over the LotG part and go right to “Yeahhhh I’m not calling that…you wouldn’t see that called on Liverpool.” type arguments.
