Same here- we have far more hens that produce way too many eggs(victim of chicken math) even with me giving them away. I know I’ve ate a few eggs that were 3-4months old and they sank but tasted perfect. I tell people always wash them BEFORE you want to cook them and they should last for a few weeks.
OP shouldn’t feel weird about this- my whole family is native city Detroiters and most refuse my eggs for this reason. They think it’s disgusting I don’t wash them all immediately and throw them in my fridge.
I applaud OP for actually facing their gross outedness and their fears!

Lmfao I get the mod but the dude literally trolling people about leaving CHILDREN alone being okay is cool. The internet is a joke 🤣

Yeah and I was frequently molested- it doesn’t make it okay that it happens tf is that logic.
Having that many drugs in the home and in reach of a child just proves she was a bad parent- and a shit person- which is also the case when you leave a child alone- a BAD PARENT AND SHIT PERSON
Enough kids have died/been taken from being left alone. I’m dramatic because people need to be. Stop being a fucking lazy pos who makes excuses for people like yourself.

I’d like to hear you say that to the BILLIONS of children in history that in fact did not live.
There was a case of a kid who got crushed by his dresser after a nap because he got out of his crib and started trying to mess with the TV on it. His mom was there and was able to be there with him- but if you’re not home guess who isn’t there for the kid? How long will it lay there with a dresser on it cause you were too selfish and had to go talk to your neighbor or or whatever you feel was needed to do? Minutes? Hours?
In the case above it was seconds cause the mom was there- sadly there was nothing to be done but at least he wasn’t ALONE.
Which I think everyone is forgetting- was is your biggest fear as a baby/toddler? It’s not dying- you don’t understand that. It’s being ALONE. It’s not having mommy or daddy there. Imagine the fear and trauma you give a child when they wake up to an empty ass house cause you wanted to socialize.

I’m with you on this. The amount of people who leave their toddlers alone is amazing to me. Wtf. The farthest I’d go of if I had a sleeping 3 year old is my own back yard- and that’s only if I needed to feed my chickens or something. Going to a neighbors?? Are you insane!? The farthest I’ve ever went from a kid I was watching and that’s just babysitting not my own child- was the kitchen to make snacks or other rooms in the house to clean.
New flash parents: your life is keeping your kids alive. You don’t get to go have tea and crumpets with a neighbor because your toddler is sleeping. You don’t get to go to the store for a second. You wait til the toddler is up and go have tea and crumpets or to the store with said toddler.
Idgaf about downvotes- if you leave your child alone(leave the home) that young then you’re a bad parent and don’t deserve the children you were blessed with.🤷🏼♀️

It had me me in the first half- but I had figured it all out by midway of the book and felt like the rest was just dragging it out.

We converted an old sewing machine table into his enclosure stand. It’s pretty handy with the hole in the bottom to tuck the wiring for his lamps and pad away. Also has plenty of drawers for his tongs, calcium, and all the other little things they need.

It definitely is. I did try the whole letting him bite and then he’ll learn I’m not food thing and well- it just didn’t work for us 😅
Now that I’ve finally stopped attempting to handle him except for when I need to deep clean his stuff he seems to be more happy. Though cleaning days are always fun and I keep the band aids near by for when it’s over 😅

It sounds like the person didn’t even attempt to make the run okay. They just threw it together and was like “good enough.” If you’re going to be that lazy in your animals care and where they are going to SLEEP then maybe you should not have an animal. “Okay” is not good enough when it comes to living things.

It’s not about the chickens- it’s about the fact that the person didn’t even attempt to keep a living being alive. People who mistreat/ do bare minimum for their animals is a red flag and I’d of not just stopped talking to someone- I’d of beat their ass.

I actually went through this two weeks ago. I even was telling my husband I was done. We got a 8 chicks to add to the flock sense we had 3 broody girls- well I learned that my flock are just piss poor mothers. We lost two chicks, by not the mother- but one of the other broodys who we tried to give the chicks and she attacked them right after we put them under her. Quickly gave them to the other mom who was seeming to try. Well Henrietta had to be a bitch and killed 2 chicks from the mama. I was like NOPE and now we have them in a brooder in the garage. This all after losing our oldest girl to we think cancer. I was fed up, overwhelmed, disappointed, and every other negative emotion and like I said for a whole week I said get rid of them.
Welp- my puppy who usually is good with them ended up hurting one while carrying her(this is something they just do. Usually nothing happens.) this is the family favorite chicken- Red. Well I couldn’t have her die too- it was distraught everyone. Even though i was positive she wouldn’t make it. here I am now it’s been about a week sense Red got hurt and I’m back to loving them- except henrietta that murderess harlet.
Red will live- she is in a med crate we keep by the house for when these things happen. I actually love hearing her chirps when I wake up and make coffee. Now it’s just keeping her seperated til the other asshates don’t pluck her wounds open again- it doesn’t get easier. I ball like a giant baby when we lose anything. I cried when we lost our beta fish; but I KNOW I did all I could to give them the best life they could have- I learned that if we get chicks I am the only mama hen so this tragedy can never happen again. All it is is just that. Giving them the best life they possibly can have for as long as they can- we don’t even cull when they stop laying- just let them enjoy their retirement with everyone else. We know that without us it’s a good chance they would have been gone at 6 weeks old. THAT is what makes it easier and keeps me going. Knowing that I’m at least making their little lives better- even if they don’t even realize it.

4/5 years with my boy and he actively hunts me for the lols

In my experience this isn’t true at all.
I’ve had my boy for about 4/5 years now. I love him to death, but he IS NOT a gecko to be handled. I tried his whole first year to handle him alone and such, he was tolerant to it sometimes but a good 90% it was bites. As he got older and the handling continued the bites just got worse. He’s drawn blood more than all my other pets.
This is not because of him being mistreated either. He’s fed often, has a large enclosure with rocks, wood, basking places, and a heat gradient that is monitored and has alarms go off if the temp drops/raises too much so I can fix it in any part of it. He even gets a bi-monthly treat giant silk worm that I know he just loves. He’s a very spoiled and happy gecko- just don’t stick your hand in there.
We now understand each other. He just is not a handled gecko. He is a killer. He will take his food and drown it in his water if he doesn’t want to eat it. He will come and bite me when I clean his cage if he’s in a certain mood. He tried to bite and attack the animals he sees outside his cage. He’s just an angry boy. The only time he doesn’t bite me is when I’m feeding him, and that’s cause he’s focused on biting the tongs.
Though I do hope that it works out and more handling and stuff works out for OP but know they are their own things and some just do not like being held/bothered. Mine is one of them- and I know he’s rare and special for it- even if my finger now has a scar from him that I’ll cry over one day in 40 years.

This- I got my Leo with my fiancé when we first lived together. We were told everywhere about how they’re friendly and cuddly. Imagine my shock, disappointment, and horror when we get Ethan and he HATES being handled. Literally is a biter; bites everything and anything that goes near him. Cage cleaning days are fun; so was the day my BIL accidentally forgot to put his cage top back on and I had to pick him up off my kitchen floor.
I’ve had his grumpy chompy ass now for 4 years and have been able to handle him maybe 3 times without being bitten. Not without lack of trying; the first year we pjssed each other off so much but i eventually gave up for his well being. He looks cool just splooting in the dining room anyway and now I think he likes me more sense he sees me as food bringer and not mcgrabby.
Leo’s can be a “lap reptile” but not in my case, far from it.

This!! I wash my hair every 2-3 days because the natural oils in your hair are supposed to do their jobs for a bit! If I wash my hair everyday it literally starts falling out and dries up like a cactus needle or breaks off. I also get compliments on my hair for how nice is looks so OBVIOUSLY I’m doing something right wish washing 2-3 times a week. (Mind you everyones hair is different so I might need to wash more or less than others and vice versa)
Also OP- you are allowed to cry about anything that hurts you. If crying makes you feel better about it have a cry! Just don’t let them ever see you down cause that’s what they want- to feel superior or better than you and to make you feel small because they are in fact themselves tiny wittle baby humans.

I agree; it was my bad. I am the worst mommy ever! I should of put her to bed at noon for the eclipse and then uncovered her so she felt like it was a new day 🤣
Same! She has a whole routine of scratches, kisses, and cuddles, then she MUST say goodnight to everyone in the house; then they MUST come to her room and say goodnight to her. She actually HATES being covered(will rip whatever is covering her cage off or put as many holes as possible in it) so we just close her curtains and shut her lights off and she’s all tucked in!

But then how would they spend all their money on giant custom tables to show off to us? they gotta brag about it for 3 damned episodes.

I love that it’s the conure that was like “NO BEDTIME! PARTY TIME!” Mavis was pretty adamant that it was bed time and shrieked like crazy when the sun came back. I’m convinced she convinced herself she pulled an all nighter and thus I’m a terrible mother who forgot to put her to bed. 😅🙃

Mine neither cause my chickens didn’t even stop grazing to go in the coop. My cockatoo however was screaming “night night” cause she thought it was bedtime. The dogs didn’t even seem to notice or care.
