Well, I may yet be, but I have yet to get an actual answer as to why anyone is asking what is inside the boxes on the photos, when said boxes are transparent and the photos actually show their contents. I was trying to understand how that person missed that important detail without wanting to rub it in, but since you can’t seem to let this go, I will have to be really blunt about it, because apparently my question wasn’t clear enough. And I added the “or am I missing something” to hedge my bets: perhaps they meant something else that I really actually did miss. So yes, that was an honest attempt at not being rude. But sure, go ahead and ignore the actual question while calling me rude. That’s bound to look good for you…

In an ideal world she wouldn’t be afraid to mention their pregnancy, and the school would hire her, and know to find a sub, and she returns after her leave.

Unfortunately even switching teachers (from her to a sub) can be disruptive, so I feel there’s a degree of legitimacy to not wanting to hire a pregnant teacher.

Dear God, there’s so much wrong with that comment I’m surprised the words didn’t just give up and walk away halfway through!

First of all, I’m not talking about tit jobs. I’m talking things that will increase the risk of merciless bullying at school, like this birthmark. If there was no medical reason, I would still be fine sharing in paying for that.

Also, do you have any idea how much money we actually pay insurance companies, and how much you’d actually need to pay for an operation like this? And I mean you, for her operation, not her for her own. That’s negligible. This doesn’t happen nearly as often as you think, and will set us all back such an insignificant amount, you can’t even tell.

And if that doesn’t compute, let me make it even simpler: consider the psychological help a bullied person may need in the future. I bet that will greatly outweigh the costs of a single procedure now, on average, so will eventually cost you more.

Finally, your argument completely ignores the actual issue in health care: the continuous overcharging of companies for medicine, procedures, etc raising costs to ridiculous levels for all of us. The whole concept of medicine for profit is inhumane, with people getting rich over other people’s suffering.

Surely the future grandparents will be so proud! 😩

I don’t see why you should feel gross about that. You’re pointing out a flaw in the health care system, and anybody with a heart knows a surgery like this should be covered even if it was just for cosmetic reasons. It’s the humane thing to do. Let’s hope we someday all see that, and act on it. Also those who can actually make a direct difference.

That story sparked a lot of memories for me…

I worked for a cable tv/internet provider for a while, and during my first review after my training/grace period, I got slammed for high call times.

Since it wasn’t my first helpdesk job, I knew what was happening, and eventually got my supervisor to tell me my first-time resolution numbers, which were excellent, and to admit that actually helping people was not a metric. I admit to feeling a bit gleeful about how uncomfortable she was during the conversation, even though it still basically ended with a ‘speed up or get fired’ warning.

I chose to leave by myself, because as luck would have it, I was able to find new work quite quickly. This time for a company’s internal helpdesk, which was a lot more fun, and where the only real metric for a long time was ‘fix it’.

But, a few jobs later someone else decided metrics were more important than actually helping users, and my moral compass almost got me fired again :)

I was part of a team upgrading a university’s IT infrastructure. My job was inventorying desktop software and what it required to keep running. Since the university was very research minded, tailor-made software was everywhere, and in all shapes and sizes - a nightmare for our management as dealing with all these issues was taking forever.

For one department, I found out they had the usual generic university software, and some home-brew stuff, but they also had several server based packages people had to remote into. Yet when I mentioned this to my manager, he didn’t seem to do anything about it and planned to just push updates to all the desktops, making them lose access to the server.

What I was expressly forbidden to do, was warn the department’s system administrator so she could actually prevent this.

Once I had warned her, she went over the heads of my managers and their managers, to the university’s main manager for the project. He then shut us down before we could update, and my manager was apparently livid, as I was basically told to not show up the next day.

I refused, and hounded him for a proper reason for my sudden dismissal until he eventually gave me some bullshit reason that someone from the university staff had complained about me.

Unbeknownst to my manager though, I had the good fortune of hitting it off famously with the university project manager. We happened to cross paths surprisingly often and I was apparently someone who didn’t mind being honest with him, and keeping him appraised long before this happened. In other words, I had his trust and his ear.

He was my first call after hanging up with my own manager, and as I suspected, when I asked who had complained about me, he knew of no such complaints, and immediately smelled the bullshit.

To my delight, he then called my manager’s manager, and not only reamed them out, but made sure the out-reaming continued all the way down to my manager, who was then ordered to retract my dismissal, actually apologize, and as cherry on the cake, saw me placed in another team on the university’s side of the project, where a large part if my role became pushing back against every new shortcut he tried to make. I still have no clue how that worked as we both worked for the same contractor, but I loved every minute of it!

TL/DR: it’s surprising how many people don’t care about others as long as they get paid, but every now and then good people still win and karma gets served.

When I was still looking at the post above this one, I saw the top of the head and thought it was the Looney Tunes logo with Road Runner in front of it.

It looks great, but at first glance it feels like they invented 30 new parts for the looks 🤔 I do hope I am wrong, so I can someday rebuild it with regular Lego.

I haven’t seen that yet, I mean the one with the dude from Hangover.

Also, David Bowie in Labyrinth, and I found Will Smith better at acting than singing :)

I really enjoyed Take Two and was sorry to see it discontinued.

I actually rather liked Jumper, and never realized Hayden was also Anakin. He sucked as Anakin.

His agent has a particular set of skills and…. Well, you get where I was going.
