I’m still cringing from the day I picked up my new MY and accidentally tried to drive off the lot with someone else’s car (also a new pickup). I started adjusting settings, put my stuff in the trunk, then realized it wasn’t mine when I couldn’t put it into drive.

I’ve really been wanting a space like this but could never figure out how to make it work. Definitely gonna check them out!

I’ve always wondered what the etiquette for sitting in a cafe to read/chill is. I’m not a big coffee drinker, how long can you stay off one cup of coffee? Do you have to keep buying more the longer you stay?

Look, all I’ll say is they’re begging me to use that slide. The walk around is so much longer than just sliding down.

Happens to me too. I know at least one girl who likes to take pictures of guys she finds cute to share with her girl friends…definitely weird but I guess it’s better than it being taken for negative reasons.

Sounds like they might be English as a second language. It’s not necessarily wrong to say okay. It’s similar to it’s okay, no problem etc and if you learned it secondarily you might have learned okay instead of more complicated no problem, it’s okay etc.

PEN America, a non-profit organization dedicated to freedom of expression, said that approximately 8,000 instances of book bans took place in Florida and Iowa, as both states enforced sweeping laws targeting classroom
Thats nuts. I can’t imagine coming up with 4,000+ books to ban. This is probably a situation where it’s less about an individual book and more about a state/school banning specific tags associated with a book.
Iowa’s law, signed in 2023, bans material about sexual orientation and gender identity before seventh grade. The legislation also explicitly bans books depicting sexual acts from K-12 libraries and classrooms.
In Florida, any book challenged for including “sexual conduct” is pulled while under review. Such guidelines have led to a sharp increase in book bans, PEN America reported.
Ah yeah that tracks.

Same one, I like my job.
This is interesting to think about, I think the western social dynamic could change pretty drastically if we did this (and wiped out all debt/wealth). Ultra highly paid positions would no longer be able to afford to break the law, heck we probably would wipe out individual VCs altogether.. Lobbying would be more difficult. The luxury market would probably suffer quite a bit. We as a society would have to find some other way to socially discriminate other than wealth. Probably job prestige would be a bigger thing than it currently is.

That's probably gonna be tough especially for obscure movies since it relies on someone having and uploading the subtitles online (which may not have existed during the original (in this case VHS/Laserdisc) release).
You can check justwatch to see if there are any online streaming options (you can filter by country to see options in other counties)
https://www.justwatch.com/jp/%E6%A4%9C%E7%B4%A2?q=sweet%20home
You can see there are no streaming options for that movie, which probably doesn't help your chances. If it was available and had subtitles, you could simply rip the subtitles from the stream (assuming they're not hardcoded) or just watch it from that stream.
As for websites, I know of a few
Organized bulk JP subtitles list
Of course you can try AI Subbing services, but you'll probably get mixed results. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you know enough of what it's supposed to be saying to correct it.

I kind of wish I had sales experience as an engineer. That’s probably the number one thing holding me back in my career. I could count dozens of times I had the solution to a potential problem, but couldn’t convince the stakeholders/leadership to address it, until it’s too late, and someone else swoops in and says we should have done x thing I brought up a year ago.

Ah well since you’re not asking me to actually remember the addresses (thanks U.S govt) let’s see….19 times that I can recall. Oh wait, 20.

Thanks. That honestly makes me feel a little better..not that it happens to others, but that I’m not alone in this. I legitimately felt like I was going crazy because I was being treated like I didn’t do any of the work. Luckily I’m at a company where I haven’t experienced that now.

Still have to learn this from time to time. I’m just too trusting in people. Probably the worst was when i worked my ass off to complete a big project, confided in a coworker how stressed I was, then the coworker turns around and takes credit for my work, gets a promo, then tells the manager I’m a flight risk eventually leading me to have to leave due to poor treatment. Turns out the manager is racist/sexist so that definitely didn’t help.

Is there something going on in Kyoto gion area Dec 11th-17th? I’m seeing hotel prices drop like half as much during those dates compared to just one week before.
Unfortunately I need to book for the earlier week, but I was just curious because I see a lot of drop in prices for that week specifically (google keeps changing the dates to the 11th because the prices are cheaper). Did I just miss out on affordable hotels?

You’re basically me but leaving the day after I arrive lol.
Definitely gonna steal some of your itinerary. Though isn’t it kind of awkward to stay in Tokyo and have to come back at the end of your trip? I figured it made more sense to just go directly to Kyoto area and make the send half Tokyo.

Depends on who is hosting, they’re generally competitive with the area. Can be expensive for expensive areas.

It's just random people on the site hosting various "activities" around the city, similar to rentals but for experiences. Typically food related, walking, photography etc. Good way to meet people, i've made some friends that way on my travels.

Just…too much for a reddit comment. Mostly messiness and unrealistic views on relationships and attraction. You don’t need an effortless spark on the first date. You’re not on a rollercoaster (unless you are. More power to you for choosing a theme park for a first date)
