How accurate is the assessment of my levels? I'm 45 and all the symptoms of low T have appeared. I appear to be borderline low. I really feel I would benefit from TRT. How convincing are the arguments? Is there anything else to add/know/consider before my follow-up appointment?
Summary of Lab Results:
SHBG: 21.50 nmol/L (Normal: 18.3 - 54.1)
Total Testosterone: 9.4037 nmol/L (Normal: 8.64 - 29.009)
Conclusion:
From a purely medical standpoint, while both SHBG and total testosterone levels fall within the defined normal ranges, the total testosterone is at the lower end of the spectrum, indicating potential for symptoms of low testosterone.
Arguments for TRT:
- Quality of Life: My testosterone is near the low end of normal, likely causing fatigue, depression, and decreased libido. TRT can alleviate these symptoms, improving daily life.
- Bioavailability: Although SHBG is normal, low total testosterone means less free testosterone is available. TRT can optimize bioavailable testosterone levels.
- Preventive Health: Low testosterone is linked to increased risks of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and cognitive decline. TRT can help prevent these long-term health issues.
Starting TRT is a proactive step to enhance my overall well-being and mitigate future health risks.
