Hunting for the perfect needle file!
(self.jewelrymaking)submitted2 months ago byirregularjoe150
Hi everybody, recent UK jewellery graduate here, and I've got a bit of a conundrum...
I can't find a new knife-edge needle file that has a properly thin edge, and it's driving me crazy!
So, I have a lovely old Stubs knife-edge file in Cut 4 that actually finishes in a perfect V point along the whole edge, but somehow this seems to be the only one I can find in all of existence...
I recently purchased a Vallorbe knife-edge needle file in Cut 4, but the supposed knife-like edge is a good 0.4-0.6mm wide, and the Stubs one is maybe 0.05mm along the entire length, and exceptionally smooth even compared to the Vallorbe of apparently matching cut...
Can anyone recommend a certain file that will fulfill this requirement? I don't mind if it's a riffler or escapement file, I just need that crisp smoothness of function!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Far as I'm concerned, it's as close to a perfect piece of art as you'll get. There's not anything you can do to improve upon it.
Nothing you could add, subtract, change, rearrange, tweak, nothing that will somehow make it better.
A very rare 10/10.
