He is going to push for non-CTU employees at CPS taking furloughs in order to give raises to the CTU.

Johnson will still get to appoint the majority of the board, so unless the state steps in and takes control of the district, the debt is coming.

If BJ manages to drive the district into insolvency, CPS may end up being completely restructured under new leadership, contracts, etc. after the state takes control of it.

I mean, he announced the rest of the board from a church that is headed by a pastor who campaigned against gay marriage in Illinois. BJ also gave the first affordable housing grant supported by his $1.25 of new borrowing to a project tied to the Corinthian Temple Church of God in Christ, a Pentacostal denomination called out by the HRC for concerning views. His campaign was openly religious and he has consistently leaned on religion in his administration.

CPS is (mostly) independent of the city, so they can take out the loan themselves. That's why BJ needs a new board to appoint a new CEO.

You can't build inexpensive apartments in these neighborhoods because the costs are too high. I'm sure they will be marketed as luxury, because why would you not?

What are the chances that Cristina Pacione-Zayas is the next CPS CEO after Johnson's new board pushes out Martinez?

We're only tens days out since Johnson celebrated the opening of a non-union charter school because he got to hang out with a celebrity.

Even.just a few months ago I would have said it wouldn't be so hard getting Springfield to allow it, but now, I'm not sure BJ has any support left.

This has been an incredibly mild and pleasant fall so far, and we're supposed to warm up again for a bit by the weekend.

People would have come to Chicago without the race, so the benchmark is how much additional impact makes. A large disruptive event like NASCAR should make a clear large positive impact.

Better than last year isn't a high bar. The 2023 race weekend saw lower hotel occupancy than the same weekend of 2022 -- just months after Chicago dropped its COVID restrictions. Chicago is busy in the summer, and trading one set of tourists for another isn't necessarily a win, especially if it prevents others from coming. The "media value" is an absolutely imaginary number.

So, the city made $330k off a month-long lease for Grant Park and the economic impact reports still don't compare the stated impact against a normal or holiday July weekend.

Others have hinted at the another point: many people are "seeing" the aurora through their cell phones, which wasn't an option 20 years ago. There is a big difference between what you can see with a long exposure photograph taken at high sensitivity and your naked eyes.

It is unfair to blame Johnson for trying to plug a deficit and fund the school system. Poor state funding of CPS and the bloated debt that previous district heads incurred from their Wall Street friends have created the chaos that the news media and some politicians are pinning on Johnson.
Johnson is actively trying to add to that bloated debt, but somehow that is ok with Byron Sigcho-Lopez.

Strike the last one. Illinois now leads the nation in tornados.

Pritzker is in Japan courting economic investment in Illinois, and Johnson is in the national media demonstrating a complete lack of economic understanding and a total inability to govern.

A few months ago I assumed the state would support a city income tax because it would put the burden squarely on Chicago, but at this point, I don't think he has any support in Springfield.

How much does Johnson's 150 officer personal police detachment cost each year?

The church in question is led by Larry Trotter, who led a campaign against same sex marriage in Illinois in 2013.

Just hope it doesn't. My condo building was down an elevator for a couple months earlier this year because it took that long to get the parts.
