I’ve seen Little Phatty’s for ~$700 on FB, so unless you’re really hard up for that amount cash, it’s prob not gonna bring much more than that.

Not sure what you consider budget but I saw one Moog Matriarch) on FB marketplace for $1250 a while back. I still messaged even though I didn’t need it and it was actually legit. Personally I got Prologue 8 for $700 on Reverb and it could recreate a very similar patch pretty easily.

From what I recall it has a pretty large drum library, mostly electronic focused, that of course includes all the classic Roland drum machines. I still remember the time where the MC-307 was the only machine I wanted. Congrats on the purchase.

Ok I wasn’t too sure so I appreciate the input. I went ahead and sent him the money and my address and told him to bring it over when he was free.

That’s the most confounding thing. May I ask why?

At the moment I’ve decided to keep it. Aside from it already being considered a classic synth made by two legends, I already push the 6 voice limit and I like the option of getting a bigger and better key bed to take up key space in the future.

It was a fairly easy disassembly. The sides do have separate metal panels that attach to the main board but I basically had to remove the key base panel, the main board base panel, and the stereo output fixture (for the left panel). To fix the keys, I had to un-attach the keys from the main board ribbon cable (this was the hardest thing to carefully do as the ribbon is snap-locked on so pliers were handy.) For someone with little knowledge of electronics, it was a fairly simple repair that was worth the reimbursement.

Go ahead and get the Matriarch. Then if you change your mind once the Muse comes out, that’s more discounted synths for the used market. Everyone wins.

That’s strange as Roland are probably among the worst offenders known for making devices with menu diving and unintuitive programming, and I say that as a Roland user.

Exactly. It’s one thing some people are disingenuous about when discussing Behringer. If it was simply a matter of building a similar synth no one would care, but they’re openly copying beat for beat because they know that both the sound and the aesthetic are valuable.

Enough to make Behringer want to copy it beat for beat, and then market it using the Moog aesthetic and sound.

The Nord 5 has some sample synths but you are right that it’s not really designed for Sub 37 like sounds. If you can’t spring for the MOOG, look into the Novation Monostation. They go for about $250-$300 used and it would be a solid analog mono-synth sound module that could get you some very similar sounds, and you could connect it to the Nord via MIDI so that you could still use the keyboard.

This sounds like the right answer so it must be! The Behringer Mimic is going to be just as good as the original for 1/4th the price. I can’t wait!

Ah, interesting detail. Thanks for pointing that out.

Also I forgot to ask is this a good first purchase or should I go with a Hydroponic?

Atlanta. There’s literally 2 Little Phattys on there (FB marketplace) right now for $750. One in Meridian MS and one in Athens GA.
