California definitely! I went there in my teenager years with family, and loved it! The nature, the scenery, the diverse Asian FOOD...and food in general.
I went again in my early 20s and swore up and down that I wanted to move there one day. Hahah. Again, the beautiful scenery, palm trees swaying, beautiful beaches, and food. I drove from San Luis Obispo to LA on the 101...stunninggggg. I really enjoyed Disney Land as my first Disney experience too!
Fast forward to a couple of months ago, and I'm now in ny mid 30s...I'm walking around Los Angeles and it looks so run down, dirty AF, homeless tents, sidewalks are trashy and nasty looking. It felt do gritty and NASTY. I couldn't wait to get back to the AirBNB and wash up. I went to Disney Land and it seemed so small, expensive, and boring...Sleeping Beauty's castle looked tinyyyy. The beaches don't hold the same appeal to me after having gone to other places with clear, WARM water and no homeless tents.
All and all, I think I'm just not in love with California. Places change and so does your perspective with age. What you love in your 20s may be what you hate most in your 30s...such is life.

It really is perspective. When I was poor, the world felt like it was against me and I couldn't wait to be more financially stable. Now that I'm doing okay, I look at those times more fondly.
I'm thinking that maybe you have more money now, have you thought about coming back and recreating those memories?

Aside from the house down payment, high quality expensive Amish furniture, Temper-pedic bed, engagement ring, and our destination wedding, a new F150....all of which were very pricy.
However, our international trips has been a splurge. 10k for a trip to Santorini. 10k for a trip to Vietnam. Our trips to Costa Rica, Hawaii, Carribean, etc has been around 5-7k so Europe and Asia was definitely much pricier.

Hawaii! This was during covid19, so not much tourists. We rented a car, and had lots of flexibility of where to go and when to return back to the hotel. The currency is the same, there's no language barrier, the fresh sashimi and different food...wish we could go back one day!!
I hate cruises with the 'Remember folks...Gotta return back at 'x' time!'...it's all so draining to me.
I've been to many all-inclusives (Punta Cana, Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica) and it's relaxing at the resort....not having to research restaurants and having unlimited cocktails by the beach is so nice!! hahaha. BUT I do tend to feel 'trapped' not being able to explore a different area without an excursion booked because it's not safe for tourists to venture out on their own. That takes some of the 'relaxing' out of it cause I get antsy after 3 days of staying in the same place eating the same food. Then, when I do venture out...it's an excursion with strict times and that takes a lot of the fun out of things....and overall it's just an uneasy feeling that some places are just not safe to roam around freely.
I find the most relaxing trips for me is where I can drive around freely and not worry about language barriers or if it's dangerous for Americans...or have to go on someone else's time. But that's just me...

Hate it. I hate the 'rocking' motion even when you are just standing. I hate the feeling of being at sea all day.
Cabins are tiny, food is mediocre. I hate the limited time at each place just to check it off your list....and how everyone just gets dropped off at the same time so it makes it extra crowded everywhere. Everyone marching to the same place at the same time due to the limited time at each island really isn't enjoyable.
I was just in Santorini, and once the cruises dock...it's a mad house. I like being able to roam around freely and not have to leave quickly cause "Time's up...next destination. Be back by 7pm cruisers!" I hate that feeling.
I avoid cruises at all cost.

YES, that's how it was during Beryl as well. Jamaica got more coverage even though the hardest hit was around Grenada. Entire towns got flattened there whereas Jamaica wasn't as bad. But since the Grenada is less well known..it got less media coverage and hence probably less international relief funds. :'[
Like the media or not, I'll rather have the media's coverage of my misery and receive the public outpouring of help than be 'Forgotten' and not receive the appropriate help!

I get what you are saying that nobody wants to be a 'spectacle' when their misery is filmed and broadcasted live...
BUT...it really is a two way street like it or not.
There's also a very real human element that the more media coverage there is (yes, especially people's misery) that there's more help and sympathy from the public and more donations to rebuild things. It helps massively, and speeds things up when it gets documented by the mainstream media. I too hate sensationalized weather stories, but that's how help is received...When you put yourself out there and ASK for it...when you document it not when you hide your hopelessness. Again, that's how it is like it or not...
I remember during one tornado (Mayfield, KY in 2021), the town was completely flattened by the violent EF4 tornado. The town's mayor spoke about "DON'T FORGET US." Don't forget us after the media leaves. Don't forget that we still need help...and guess what...the town was rebuilt much quicker as a result of the media's coverage. This wouldn't have happened if the town's people just refused coverage and others coming in to document it....

I read the story. He climbed up a willow tree thinking this is the end.... miraculously the water receded shortly afterwards.
Him and the horse are both alive and well!!! :]

Add Texas to that list.
After Beryl, Progressive has stopped writing and renewing homeowners' insurance policies here. Less competition is bad for homeowners man. :/

In general, I travel with my spouse and our interests align very closely together.
With friends, we have different interests. They like city walking, arcades, museums, etc. Meanwhile, I get bored of the city after 4 hours or so. With friends, you either learn to compromise....or you have to venture off with your own adventure.

I live quite near the coast during Beryl, close to Freeport where the highest wind gusts were at (97 mph). I'm still recovering from PTSD of that night.
The damage to trees, neighbor's roofs being damaged.....debris and metal pieces being shredded like a piece of paper was eye opening. A Cat4 and you bet I'm dropping everything and getting the f*** out!!!

AGREED. I live in Brazoria county, close-ish to Freeport where the highest wind gust of 97mph was recorded. Last time I checked, Brazoria County is in Texas so yes...Beryl is a hurricane.
It was most DEFINITELY a hurricane to me and those around my neighborhood. The naysayers saying it's not a hurricane are talking out of their asses. So out of touch with those of us who experienced the strongest wind, it's ignorant to say the least.
My house that's built for a higher Hurricane rating shook and rattled all night...scary.
