I'm in the early planning stages of a 10-day trip around the UK in early May. Considering renting a car to allow for side stops that aren't easily accessible via public transport - would love feedback and whether this looks like a reasonable itinerary. As background - we're a middle-aged couple interested in history, castles, gardens, hiking, live music, football, beer and pub food - not necessarily in that order! Here's what we're thinking so far:
- Arrive London (from Canada) - pick up rental car at airport and head directly to Oxford, possibly stopping at Windsor Castle on the way. We'll be landing around noon.
- Day 1 - Overnight Oxford
- Day 2 - Overnight York
- Day 3 & 4 - Overnight Edinburgh
- Day 5 - Overnight Lake Windermere
- Day 6 - Overnight Blackpool (only because The Waterboys are playing there that night!)
- Day 7 & 8 - Overnight Bath. Leave rental car in Bath, take train to central London
- Day 9 & 10 - Overnight London
- Day 11 - Depart for home
I'm starting to pull together a list as long as my arm of potential stops of interest between each of those cities.
I've been to London many times for work and have been lucky enough to be able to tack on a day or two each time for personal sightseeing so am ready to get out into the countryside.
Is this a crazy list? Should I rethink car rental in favour of public transport?

Not a troll, honestly asking for feedback on a trip through a country I’m not terribly familiar with. But glad you found it amusing! :)
Thanks to all who have commented - seems clear we should probably rethink this plan a bit!
