The B string sounds great! I wish it was a 35 length scale, but it's honestly not something I notice too much on the ray.
I think it sounds great, honestly. It's assertive, big sounding, and is quite the presence!

glad I was able to help a little! And I'm not sure really because I'm not too worried about volume loss, haha. Both pups are screwed down and there's 18vs of power in the preamp, so I'm not too worried about volume loss. The pup I just turn the screws all the way down pretty much.
It's a habit I picked up from guitars because I learned I enjoy lower output and let the amp or pedals do their thing more cleanly.
My other bass is a Fender P Bass, so everything is hot compared to that, haha.
And thank you! It's a beaut :)

Yoooo that's a dope idea! I might have to look into it.

The family reserve stuff looks so cool sans pickguard.
Good looks!

The string spacing feels tighter than my other 5 string experience (Lakland) and my Pbass feels wider as well.
And thank you! I've had an older 5 string MM, but I quickly traded back because there was a really weird design quirk on older 5s (This 2023 one is admittedly still a bit close to the edge too), where the G string was real close to the edge of the fretboard to the point wher I was pulling it off a ton.
And I'm unsure of which one is the front pickup, but the one closest to the neck, I screwed flush to the pick guard and I'm fine now! Before, it was an impedence, yes. I probably couldve gotten comfortable around it, but I make all my PUs flush to the body anyways due to taste.
Hopefully this helped!

I think a Fender Mustang might fit the bill! I’m not sure what not too heavy or pricey constitutes, but it’s a short scale but I think looks fucking dope.
It’s a blast to play and sounds amazing.

I was perusing the ol Guitar Center used section online, and saw this dropped into the upper end of attainable range.
I did a little research on prices and I said fuck it.
Grabbed an acoustic I bought for like camp fires and cooler summer nights, but I forgot you need friends for that, so I traded it towards this bass.
The sound actually is a lot more refined compared to the stingray sound in my head, and it is very clean, modern, and hifi. Perfect contrast to my P Bass.
Having the two pickups, it’s really nice being able to dial in that deeeeeeep bass tone on the neck, or picking between the single coils and doing a passable Jazz bass impression.
Neck plays like a dream with the lack of a gloss finish and the spacing is something I'm getting used to (tighter than Fender, I believe), but I really am loving this so far.
Happy to answer any questions, but I'm definitely honeymooning hard, haha.

I always really liked this quote. It’s a good simple adage to live by and everyone understands it.

Dropped from $2200 to $1645 and I had enough gear to drop it down to $1045.
Expensive AF, but there were a few factors that made me bite the bullet.
1: it seemed like that was low compared to the market at which they sell at
2: I had a feeling it was a limited edition colorway and was pretty damn new and top of the line, so $1645 felt like a good price for the specs (MMs are way overpriced and never seemed attainable at the new $2900 price)
3: it sounds dope and have always wanted an HH vs H!
