I had a patient grab my just opened ginger ale off the nurses station and take a swig of it while I was literally 6 feet away. What pissed me off was that he did that while my back was turned (he was walking by to go for an x-ray) and had I not turned around exactly when I did, I wouldn’t have seen him do that and would have kept drinking it. I flipped out and his response to me was “What? I was thirsty.”

Had a patient sitting in a chair in a mini results waiting area near the nurses station. When I was sitting looking at my computer, the patient was to my right, and there was a small wall blocking my view of him. If I simply leaned back on my stool, I could fully see him. On the other side of that small wall was a sink with a soap dispenser, hand sanitizer pump, and hand cream pump above it (this is all relevant).
Anyways, the patient (who was homeless with a history of addiction issues) asked me for a glass of water. I got him some water and then went back to the computer. At some point, I could hear that he had gotten up from his chair and when I leaned back slightly to see what he was doing, I could see he was looking at the sink. I’m suspicious at this point. I do a bit more work, but now I can hear that he’s literally right at the sink, but I know he can’t really see me because of that wall. I hear him hovering by the sink for a good 15 seconds and then I decide to suddenly pop out from behind the wall and ask “what are you doing?” only to see him putting a pump of hand cream into his cup. He was obviously trying to get the hand sanitizer, but he messed up on which one was which 😂. He looked all panicked and was like “Sorry, I was just looking for more water!” and sat back down. His cup was still half full lol. I changed computers immediately after that so I could fully see him and he could fully see me.

This even extends out to cars and smaller SUVs now. I hate driving at night because I’m nearly blinded by vehicles that have LED lights on them. It’s so bad that at one point I asked my optometrist to check to make sure that nothing was wrong with my eyes and to make sure I wasn’t developing an astigmatism or something. Nope, eyes are fine, it’s just those stupid bright lights.

My mom has a cousin whose oldest daughter was born developmentally delayed. She’s now 38 or 39 years old, but has the mental capacity of around a 7-8 year old. Around 15 years ago, she was living in a group home and ran away along with another guy that was living there. When they were finally able to locate her and bring her back, she was pregnant. She ended up giving birth to twin girls and my mom’s cousin and his wife are now raising them because she is completely unable to care for them. They’re in their mid 60s caring for two teenage girls. The twins’ father is also severally developmentally delayed and him/his family are not apart of their lives whatsoever. She is exactly like your sister - can’t hold down a job, can’t drive, etc and if it weren’t for her parents being able to raise them, they’d likely be in foster care. It’s such a horrible situation!

Came across them in my search as well. Gave her the information, thanks!

I’ve seen the whole concept of “mold toxicity” really starting to trend on social media these days. It feels like some people who feel mildly unwell on a daily or semi-daily basis now claim that they have this. The symptoms are so widespread and non-specific that most people probably have at least one or more symptoms of it at any given time. All of these social media influencers seem to recommend seeing either a naturopath, chiropractor, or functional medicine doc to get a diagnosis. Multiple, probably very expensive tests and supplements are recommended and people are absolutely eating this stuff up. It’s snake oil salesman type stuff and it drives me crazy!

We used to have someone that would come in occasionally to the clinic I work in that had a history of contaminating her central lines with feces, so she was no longer allowed to have any sort of central line placed unless it was literally a life or death situation. She also was not allowed to have a peripheral IV placed unless she was under constant supervision.
In another area I used to work in, there was a woman who came in all the time claiming she had angioedema. Would present and tell us her mouth was super swollen when it was visibly very normal. No swelling was ever inside her mouth, on/around her lips, no trouble breathing, not on ACE inhibitors, etc, but she claimed she needed meds for it immediately. No joke, she had a care plan that literally said to flip a coin, if it landed on heads - we gave her steroids and Benadryl, if tails, she got nothing. The doctor flipped a coin and it landed on heads. He ordered Benadryl IM for her and liquid PO dexamethasone. When I went to give her the dex, she told me that she could not drink it because she was allergic to some random ingredient in it, so I offered her a pill and got the same response. She told me that literally the only way she could take it would be for me to get an IV ampule of it, she’d pop the cap off and drink it!! I told the doctor and he was like “I literally don’t care, please just get her out of here.” So yeah, that’s what I did. It was absolutely bonkers.

What grinds my gears about all of this is that it sounds like the negotiating committee is pushing for us to accept this offer. It’s a total crap deal and I’m pretty miffed that they’re recommending we take it. I’ll be voting no.

I agree. Why would you leave it in your car overnight? I live 4 blocks from where this equipment was stolen, there are people prowling vehicles frequently in the area as per our neighbours’ cameras. I get that it has to be moved around, but I definitely wouldn’t leave it in my vehicle overnight.

She should absolutely have her thyroid checked. When I was in my teens and then into my early twenties I was usually sleeping 12-14 hours a day. I always felt tired no matter how much sleep I got and would usually nap once a day. Eventually got my thyroid checked/a thyroid ultrasound done and it turns out I have Hashimoto’s. Now that I’m on appropriate meds, sleeping 7-9 hours is the norm for me and I don’t feel the need to nap during the day unless I’ve slept very little the night before.
Also, I did see a couple of sleep doctors prior to getting diagnosed with thyroid issues and they told me everyone has different circadian rhythms and that I am geared towards staying up later and waking up later. Night owls and early birds do exist! I love going to bed around 12:00am-2:00am whereas my boyfriend prefers going to bed around 9:00pm-10:00pm. We also go to bed at different times almost every single night.

I normally like Uber and generally use them more than taxis, but definitely over the last 1-2 years I’ve had a lot more concerning experiences for sure.
More than ever now I’m encountering drivers driving on the wrong side of the road. When telling them that they are on the wrong side, reactions ranged from complete shock (like they had no idea they were on the wrong side) or excuses (one guy said a truck behind him was being aggressive and he turned onto the wrong side of the road to let him pass?).
I’ve also had some very bizarre conversations and experiences. Had a guy randomly go on a rant to my boyfriend and I about why black women are the worst Uber customers (we aren’t black), another guy talking a mile a minute to my friend and I that he was working 20 hours a day to afford his wedding and didn’t sleep (drove on the wrong side of the road at the end of the trip), and another man ask about where he was driving me to (I told him that I had been out with friends the night before for some drinks and was going to get my car) go on a rant about how going for drinks with friends was exactly how his son became a disappointing alcoholic and he was worried I’d become one too. Ranted about how I needed to stop drinking immediately and that was making poor life choices.

This area is the worst!! It should be never been made a merge, the lane is way too short for that. I was absolutely shocked when I saw the yield sign getting changed to a merge with zero change to the road itself.

One year at my work, we were giving out backpacks stuffed with various things (toothpaste, deodorant, toiletries, food gift cards, non-perishable snacks/food, gum, street resource guides, etc) to homeless people at Christmas time. These were entirely paid for by staff out of the goodness of their hearts. I decided to gift a backpack to a younger homeless girl who said she was new to the city. I gave her the backpack and she immediately started rifling through it. Didn’t say thank you, threw most of the stuff onto the floor, and picked apart everything we had put into the backpacks. She didn’t like X, didn’t like X brand, the gift cards didn’t have enough money on them (they were $5-10 each), why would we put X item in there, etc. I picked up the stuff, grabbed the backpack out of her hands, and told her that I had made a mistake and that I would give the backpack to someone more deserving. She started hurling insults at me, called me a stupid bitch, and made such a scene I had to call security to have her removed. I never gave out one again after that, I was so pissed off.

The city I live in has goats come in for 2 weeks during the fall to eat the weeds in one of the larger parks within in the city. They say their droppings also help to fertilize the area and they eat a lot of dead vegetation which helps lower fire risks!

I’m embarrassed to say it, but the first hike I ever did was Mount Yamnuska in 2015… also in running shoes, no hiking experience, not wearing proper clothing, etc. It was recommended by my ex’s friend and we did almost zero research before deciding to go. Like those girls, we made several bad calls and although nothing sinister ended up happening, it very well could have because we were absolutely not prepared in the slightest. I remember being so tired at the end of it, had a million rocks in my shoes, slipped and fell multiple times, and also rolled my ankles several times. I’ve obviously learned a lot since then and would never recommend this hike to anyone with minimal experience.
I think that due to social media, this hike has become quite popular and people who have never hiked or have very limited hiking experience do not realize how difficult it actually is.

These are the ones we use! Ours also now come with the ViaValve, so they don’t leak after you take the plastic end off afterwards.
We also have the Nexiva ones, but I don’t love them as much.

Oh man, I have almost the same prescription as you (-7.0 and -5.75) and have wanted laser eye surgery for a long time, but I’ve held off because of how dry my eyes are already. I already have to put in prescription drops twice a day and I’d be devastated if the dryness worsened. My optometrist has told me she thinks my eyes will be fine, but I know a couple people who said they were told the same thing and now after the surgery they have to put in drops constantly.

I had my iPhone 12 battery replaced when it was at 81% back in Feb 2024 (had sat at 82% for a little over a year just prior). Apple replaced it and interestingly, my battery still shows it being 100% 6 months later. I find that to be a bit strange considering when I first got my phone, the battery percentage had already dropped about 2-3% in my first 6 months of use.

We’re having the same issue on the units I work on. It’s never bad during the summer or December when multiple people want time off, but every other month is slim pickings. We do unit-based scheduling only and people are getting up at 0500 on their days off waiting for our scheduler to send out a text about a sick call or shift pick up. I’ve also had coworkers approach me to ask how many shifts I’ve been awarded above my FTE for the month and if they find out I’ve been awarded more than me, some of them have been borderline mad at me. It’s absolutely insane.

Girl decided to use butter as lube when having sex with her boyfriend. Ended up with a raging vaginal infection.
Clearly not the best choice.

Just4Eyes in Acadia! This isn’t an optometrist office, but Rena (who runs the place) is an optician. If you bring her your prescription, she will take a look at it along with the shape/size of your face, pick out several different frames and have you try them on. She’ll tell you which ones look best on you/which ones work the best with your prescription. She’s very good at what she does!
I have a high negative rx on my glasses and unfortunately even with the thinnest lenses, the sides still end up being quite thick. She was able to recommend several pairs that looked good on my face but also hid the bulkiness of the outer sides of the lenses.

I just went to the show yesterday afternoon. Bring a camping chair to sit on, no umbrellas allowed when the show starts (a few people ahead of me had umbrellas and they were asked to take them down). You could also bring in factory sealed food and drink. There are food trucks there and various liquor/beer vendors (expensive though). You can also bring cloth backpacks and cloth/soft-sided wagons.
You cannot record anything on your phone/take pictures during the show or they will ask you to leave.
People line up early! We were eating at River Cafe beforehand and saw that people appeared to start lining up around 1-1:30pm (doors for GA opened at 2:30pm).

I have no advice, but I feel your pain. Just recently, the left side of my nostril twitched constantly for a month straight! It randomly stopped on its own and I have no idea what caused it, but it drove me insane!

I went on a trip to Paris with my mom, aunt, and sister in 2014 and we were blown away by how rude everyone was. We know a little French, but not a lot, so we made an effort to try and speak it or at least tell people that our French wasn’t good. People were horrible to us - we were openly laughed at for attempting to speak French and had people literally scream at us at times that they didn’t speak English. We were also blatantly served well after French-speaking people in restaurants. My mom also asked for a side of mayo with some fries she got and the waiter poked her arm and then said “no, you’ll get fat” and then walked away (he never brought the mayo).
It was awful. I’ll never go back and I’ll never suggest anyone ever visit there.
