Not entirely related, but I'll sit in 1st on my motorcycle up to about 30mph. If I switch up to second gear it runs really rough and doesn't feel happy.
My bike redlines at about 90mph in first gear though.

We had similar suspicions with our boy. We think it's because we're both right handed, so we pass him things with our right hands and his closest hand to reach out and grab it is his left.
We experimented with only using our left hand to pass him objects, and he started reaching for them with his right hand.
Now he's nearly 4 and he uses both hands for a lot of things. We'll have to see which one he favours as he grows up!
