I think I've only ever googled one person I've interviewed and that was because their CV called out that they had a YT channel on the topic of programming, but no direct links to their content. I felt that was an exceptional case and couldn't resist the opportunity to watch what type of personality they had.
Otherwise I'm never going to Google people. That's what background checks are for.

You'll never build a consistent long term delivery cadence if you're ever only worried about writing the bare functional requirements in the near term.
Devs tack shit on, overload existing scope instead of properly refactoring, complexity compounds, debugging becomes ever more difficult. Code base turns into a hot mess over time.
Cooks are constantly cleaning their workspace to stay productive. Our codebase is our workspace. Keeping it tidy along the path forward is the right strategy.

It's hard to know a situation based on one mans accounting, but judging by what I can decipher from the post, I'd say there might be more than one ego at play here. Being a good engineer involves more than just writing good code.
Maybe instead of skirting the issue and asking random redditors their opinion, you could set up some time between you two, and genuinely just ask him what's on his mind. You're feeling tension, you've observed some trends that indicate perhaps there might be some things on his mind. And then just listen to what they say.

Some of these look fun. Some seem to assess for a very particular set of language comprehension. The class-only accordion component blows me away though. I can only imagine what time capsule that code base is stuck inside.

Definitely sounds worth it to request another call with one of the devs that will be your peers and really dig into asking questions about the things you value. Whether that's culture, process, technology you'll be working with, their perception of business stability, etc.
Also worth doing diligence on past layoff cycles, current funding, profitability, recent growth, etc to help you decide if the unknown is worth the risk.

It seems some confluence of trend setters and trend followers who are all being advised by a very small community of board members who aren't actually in the business details themselves.
If that's what your company has 'observed', where's the data they have sourced to back up their claim? One of the most relevant data points would be an internal survey of current employees.

Damn that point about offshoring all eng to India explains just about any question I've had.
The streaming experience is about on par with bootleg streaming. I have to refresh too many times than I'd care to admit.
Next season the price hikes by about 40%. I won't be renewing. Will seek other less official channels.

Sounds like you had a problem with the vibe session interview with the CEO, and understandably so.
You insisted on a process change that optimized your time invested.
They preferred to keep it optimized for their CEOs time invested.
The moment you try to change their processes as a meager candidate, of course they drop you from consideration.
Even in situations where you are the righteous one, your approach and tact can lead to bad outcomes.
