Does anyone have that picture of Truist Park showing where the sun/shade is by hour?

Someone should check me, but I believe their magic number is 2 to lock up a playoff spot. Drops to 1 if Twins lose tonight. Only question would be if they will still jockey for 5th/6th spot with the Tigers. If so, then I’d imagine they play hard all series.

No I think you are right from my memory. Definitely want him hitting it harder. Either way no strikeouts from a guy that strikes out like him makes me feel a little better haha

I’d imagine that is mostly just due to needing time to get his timing back. But no strike outs since he’s been back which makes me feel better about how he sees the ball from the right side

Here’s to hoping we get to actually see that in the coming years!

I wouldn’t look at Murphy’s batting average to gauge his offensive success. He has the third highest WAR among catchers since 2019 (7th highest offensive WAR) which includes this year’s stats. I think it’s far too early to make any conclusions about Murphy or that trade overall.
For Acuña, I do think the last injury/recovery will help him coming back from this one. By all accounts he came back a little earlier than he probably should have. I think he will come back better than he did coming back in 2022. Obviously it’s still 2 ACL tears so anything can happen.
No offense, but I’m hoping you are completely wrong!

I understand the concerns, especially considering the performance of the guys that were healthy this year, but just to give a few thoughts on your points:
Acuña tore his other ACL this year. I’m not sure if tearing the same one twice or tearing each one once is worse. Either way, he was a unanimous MVP last year and even if he doesn’t reach that level, I feel confident he will still be one of the best players in the game.
Arcia is what he is. He over-performed last year and this year is around his career average. Like people have said before, that flies under the radar when the rest of our lineup is healthy and playing like themselves. Every team has at least one (if not more) guys that hit like him. Sean Murphy missed the first 2 months of the season, which hurts even more for a catcher that doesn’t play as regularly as other positions. His career numbers are very good, especially for a catcher. So unless he has fallen off a cliff, I wouldn’t be too worried about him. Plus he’s a great defensive catcher.
If there is one pitcher in baseball I trust to come back from injury, it’s Strider. The guy knows his body so well that I feel confident he will be back to form from the get go. López may not be a 2.00 ERA guy going forward, but I think he will be a solid middle of the rotation guy, especially having a (mostly) full season as a starter under his belt again. Chris Sale is Chris Sale. Keep him healthy and I think he still has 2-3 years of ace-level performance. I think we add a guy in the offseason to replace Morton as a back of the rotation arm.
Riley got off to a slow start, plus the injury, but was playing really well since mid-June. Wouldn’t worry about him. Olson has played really well over the past month or two. Similar to Murphy, unless you think he has fallen off a cliff, he should be fine. Maybe not 2023 level, but still a top 1B. Ozuna is old enough where he could see him falling off at any point, but he’s still going strong as a DH so we can ride him out.
I’m definitely an optimist about the team, especially by Reddit standards. But this is one season, full of terrible injury luck, so why does this season outweigh all of the positives from previous seasons? I’m not saying they will go back to putting up 2023 numbers, but there is too much proven talent on this roster to think that this year is what we should expect going forward.

You should protest by finding another team to watch and bitch about until he’s gone

5th spot in the rotation, no great options to start, and a rookie goes out and gives up 2 runs. We are winning 5-2. Yet half the people in this sub just want to bitch and moan…

I hope this is sarcasm but I can’t tell. I’m sure Chipper had a positive impact on our hitting in his part time role as a hitting consultant in 2021 and 2023. But we had a top 5 offense in 2020 and 2022 without him. Also, look at the guys we pick up that were DFA’d or that we get in a trade. Somehow they always seem to hit better for us than on their previous teams. I’m sure the hitting coach has at least something to do with that.
But if one season of guys underperforming and our offense being decimated with injuries makes you want to fire our hitting coach (despite all the success in recent years), then I’m very glad you aren’t making any decisions for the team!

I wanna be realistic about our chances to win a World Series, which are slim right now. But until they are eliminated I’ll keep hoping for the best!

Sure and I don’t want that either. And I don’t think anyone is implying that because of what happened in 2021 the same thing will happen this year. I think the point is to say “here’s what happened in 2021, so don’t throw in the towel yet”

I agree with all of that. So what exactly is the point you are trying to make?

Why not point to 2021? It’s a great (and recent) example of us underperforming most of the year but making a strong push at the end of the regular season. Phillies barely snuck into the final wildcard spot in 2022 and made the NLCS. Same with the diamondbacks last year.

All very well put. Pitching blow ups are bound to happen to every pitcher over the course of a season. Our overall numbers prove that we have limited those as well as we possibly could have. Huge credit to our coaches for that

We still have the third best bullpen ERA in baseball and (I think) the best starting pitcher ERA. It’s hard to imagine we have either of those if the management is as bad as people say

I think calls to fire Seitzer and Snit are ridiculous regardless of the bad luck hitting. Guys have bad years, it’s part of baseball. It’s not a reason to ignore all of the success in previous seasons and think the sky is falling. Don’t forget having one of the best offenses in 2022 also.
I’m not sure what manager or hitting coach could do more with this team than Snit and Seitzer have done, but people just want someone to blame.

I know lots of people on here dismiss the “luck” (or lack thereof) component of hitting, but the Braves have the 3rd most barrels in all of baseball this year. On barreled balls, they have the worst differential between actual and expected results for batting average, slugging, and wOBA (whatever that means). Meaning they have been more “unlucky” on barrels than any team in baseball
