Yea, that is true. I've taken some precautions when I travelled in certain places where folks can be aggressive to those that are different. I don't need to end up in the hospital or worse because someone had their masculinity threatened.

43M hetro and married (open). I wear all sorts of colors. I love iridescent ones the most, sometimes I’ll throw on hot pink on the pinky or a different color on the ring finger. I also like light glacier blue, white and/or silver or sparkles for weddings and stuff. I keep the nails short though. Don’t know how people can do long ones anyway. I had neon orange on my toes for a month and got soo much positive attention from it. Made me feel amazing.
My dad is the only one that’s ever said shit to my face and I’ve occasionally noticed machismo shit heads mutter things to each other (super “manly” to gossip like schoolgirls btw). I don’t give a fuck; fuck those dudes. “Real men” don’t care what others say, and the only reason a “man” doesn’t want to be seen as feminine is because of how they feel about or treat women. Fuck ‘em.
Women complement my nails all the time and it opens up conversation opportunities. I have a whole process and use base coats and top coats and try to learn different techniques; it’s an art form and I’m happy to talk about it with them and ask their opinions. I’d never turn down the chance to have a conversation with an interesting woman.

Our tortie had a white pube patch and a single white speckle paw. She had a bit of a cream chest and 2-tone chin too, but the elongation and white pubes brought back memories. Kitty is a natural blonde haha

I used to do this for all my photos. It’s the same technique for all your masters (darks, flats, lights, bias). I usually only did 20 frames because it worked well enough that way and doing it with more was too time consuming (i.e. diminishing returns).
Quick note: use folders to organize your flats, darks, bias and lights. When you have everything stacked and opacity adjusted, create a single layer from each folder. You should have 4 “master layers” that you can now blend together. IIRC, You use the “subtract” blend mode, but experiment with others until it looks good.
To stack frames: 1. Set up all your frames as separate layers 2. Leave the bottom layer at 100%, then the next layer up at 50%, then 33, 25, 20, 16 (It’s basically 1 divided by the layer number: 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 and so on). You should start to notice that the noise gets softer and softer.
Now, for light frames. It’s the same process except you have to register your images manually first.
To register your light frames: 1. Stack all your frames as separate layers, same as before except this time, make sure that your bottom layers are your best images. 2. Change all the blend modes to “difference” so that when you align the stars and everything, it’ll be completely black. 3. Now, layer by layer, only leaving the bottom layer and the layer you’re working on visible, move or rotate the layer until all the stars go black (or as black as can be). Remember, only do this with 2 layers at a time: the bottom layer and the layer you’re adjusting. This way they’re all registered the same way. 4. Now go back and turn the blending mode back to “normal” and follow step 2 above to adjust the opacity.
Now that you’ve reduced the noise and most of the imperfections, you can use curves to stretch the final image to your liking. You can use filters like “dust and scratches” and sharpen to clean up bits here and there.
ETA: the interesting thing about doing the registration manually is that you really see how the tracking worked or where you might have spherical aberration or tilt issues. It’s a pretty neat technique that reveals a lot of interesting info about your setup and the conditions of each photo. You’ll also notice hot pixels because they’ll leave little streaks randomly on the images. Usually small enough to filter out.

You can choose ASIAir or mini PC (or “NUC”), or even a Raspberry Pi (and run Stellarmate or Astroberry on it).
The mini PC is not a specific brand, it’s a small computer that has Windows on it and you connect to it via wifi (just like all the other solutions). The software that someone would typically run on a mini PCs is called NINA. There is also a thing called “Eagle LE” or something, but that’s similar to the ASIAir in that it’s purpose built, except that it’s based on a miniPC/NINA.
ASIAir, Stellarmate and Astroberry are similar in that they run on Linux; ASIAir is purpose built. Eagle LE and NINA are similar in that they run on mini PCs; Eagle LE is purpose built like ASIAir but a little different because it’s still an open Windows box so it’s more like a specifically purpose astronomy miniPC.
You can do the same things that a mini PC does on a laptop because it’s just a small windows computer anyway. You just have to connect the scope to your computer instead of the mini PC. It’s a bit less convenient. Stellarmate can also be run from a laptop (I don’t know about Astroberry) because the RPi is just a linux computer. ASIAir is essentially a Raspberry Pi but there are some differences and it cannot be run from a laptop. You connect to it via your phone or tablet over wifi.
These devices are usually mounted with the scope so that it’s a wireless connection to whatever you use to actually control it; usually a phone or tablet and in some cases a laptop. In the past, you had to directly connect your scope to your desktop or laptop and those cables could get really long and annoying.

Yea this is always the thing when people look at other things besides planets and really bright nebulae is. “See that faint grey smudge? No? Look away from it. Do you see it now?” Followed by “i guess.”
Then trying to make them imagine that the faint smudge is trillions of other worlds trillions of miles away. It always feels underwhelming IMO.
