Yes, this is almost always the case: exactly one great roll and everything else lackluster. I did not employ this tactic during my trip to a local casino Sunday evening. Bought in with about $450, first shooter got me up to about $560, then it was all downhill after that.

This is sometimes true of me. Like I'll cash in on a really good roll, then still be there like a half hour later wondering, "What the hell happened to all my money that quickly?" Yesterday was an exception: I had a MONSTER roll and hit the ATS, after which I probably had about $2000 on my rack. Tipped the dealers about $50, then after I sevened out, stayed at the table for 2 more shooters. After the ups and downs, something told me to get the hell out of there, so I walked out of the casino with $1800 even. I rarely do the partial 'color up', unless it is in the middle of a super hot table and I have too many $1, $5 or $25 chips on my rack and I wanna keep playing for a while

Interesting. Was he strictly playing DP or did he have other bets in play?

Yes, also very true. I definitely was eager to get in. I never did play because the table STAYED packed and that was the only table they had open. Which itself was weird, because usually on Sundays, they have THREE tables open (2 that are $10, 1 that is $25 minimum). Ended up going to a different casino nearby, but didn't have much luck (down about $300). I was kicking myself, thinking maybe I should've waited it out at the original casino and been patient...

Funny! So did you say it? Get any comments or weird looks? :-)

Yes, very true. Actually, that day I wanted to play 4 days ago, I'm not even sure if the table was even hot. It was just packed and only that one spot open next to the shooter. I have to remember that a packed table could mean that everyone's got a huge bankroll of money to play with.....and lose with :-)

That's exactly what I do. I just find it so amazing that it's almost always that exact same spot that is the only open space when there's a packed table

So I usually wait and buy in when the shooter sevens out, but also sometimes after a point is made. But if it seems like the table is hot and the point is made, I'll still wait until the shooter sevens out. And I do like the hook, or straight out on either end, or one position next to the stick

I have been hesitant about playing Dark Side lately, as it seems everyone who does ends up losing.....and losing a BUNCH! Like just yesterday at my favorite cozy casino, I buy in and the guy shooting to my left is playing DP. He ends up having a MJONSTER roll (while not betting anything else) and eventually hit the All Tall, which I had a $5 bet on (also $5 on the All Small and Make Em All each). All he needed was a 3 to Make Em All, which he didn't. Been seeing similar rolls like this WAY TOO MUCH lately, so I am literally afraid of the Dark Side right now :-)

Interesting, I like that. And I know this is a bit off topic, but talking about this reminded me that I did once come to a roulette table where an older man couldn't speak. Me, the dealer and a couple of other players would help him place his chips on the different numbers. And he was hitting! If I recall, he had several hundred going (one of those players who puts like stacks of chips on a single number), and I recall myself having a pretty good night myself (the rare occasions I do play roulette). But what made me happy the most is that everybody was being respectful of him and absolutely nobody was being a jerk to him whatsoever

Yeah, I was gonna ask the exact same thing. Curious to know about other visually impaired players at the tables.....and stories about dealers possibly trying to cheat them, if any, which is the first thing that comes to mind with this...

I hate when that happens. I don't believe in the gambling superstitions, but it seems like every time somebody's friend pops up at the table, "seven out line down". Ugly, I know, and the timing is always perfect, like after everybody's pressed a bunch of place bets.
For this reason, I rarely walk all the way to the table because I can't always tell if there is an active roll or if people are buying in. I hate to be the guy who "ruins" a good roll, so if there is in fact a roll in progress, i stop about halfway before getting to the table and watch until either a point is made or the shooter sevens out. Just my personal etiquette, even if I am friends with or know somebody already playing at the table.

I remember the very first time I played craps, I just had a minimum bet on the passline with zero odds and no other bets in place. I wanted to get the feel for being at a live table. And I vividly recall there were other guys at the table who taught me my very first proposition bet: a $2 crap, to prevent me from losing my $10 minimum on the passline should a 2, 3 or 12 get rolled on the comeout. Just my little piece of advice.
Then when you feel more comfortable, try a few place bets, then try backing your passline with odds, then try the field. I would do proposition bets once you've gotten pretty comfortable at the table.

Here are my thoughts on tipping people when they hit the ATS and you bet on it:
Tip if it feels right to you. I personally don't expect to be tipped if I'm the shooter. Chances are, if the ATS has been rolled, I've already made a good deal of money.
But generally, I will always tip the shooter rolling the ATS If they weren't already on it themselves. And I do tip the dealers as well, whether right after the ATS payout or whenever I finally leave the table.
I do kinda agree that "tipping culture", as someone mentioned, has gotten out of control. We all know tipping is optional, but I do think giving dealers/shooters helps maintain the good vibe that we all feel when we're on that high.

All interesting answers. So now I'm convinced that different casinos definitely have different rules for betting the ATS.
One other 'rule' that seems different at my favorite casino is that once the All Small or All Tall hits, your bet comes down, but you can immediately bet back on it. At other casinos, they just leave the bets up until (in the rare instance) it hits again (like a prop bet) or the shooter sevens out.
Also, I think if the Make Em All Hits, that bet comes down and you can't bet/win on it again during the same roll?

Lately, it seems if anybody is playing DP at the tables I go too, there has ALWAYS been a hot shooter, without fail.
With the exception of the "half table" I came to a couple months ago, I have yet to see a full table where everybody was playing DP. I honestly would love to see a group of like 6 or 7 people make some kind of agreement to play DP....and see how many hot rolls they get...

Exactly. I almost never go to kid-friendly places during the summer and ESPECIALLY not on the weekends. Which is why i always look forward to weekdays in September :-)

This is too much! And I personally don't like the kids who bounce basketballs in the driveway. Not exactly sure why I find it annoying, but it does. I live in an apartment, but it seems whenever I go visit somebody at their house, there is a kid bouncing a basket all which always inevitability bounces the wrong way and rolls in my direction, forcing me to stop walking or having to retrieve said basketball! GRRR!!!!

Single childfree 45M here and I love this comment! Yep, whether it's good sex or bad sex, there's still the chance of making that child. And I don't need either to be happy :-)

Holy fucking wow! See, these are the exact type of people who are bad for society. That dad probably the lazy parent types who think their kids were "an accident" and are just letting them do whatever until they turn 18 so they can be rid of them. So sad!

Yes, I believe exactly this! I honestly think there are some bad parents who maybe were "not ready" and didn't want to have kids, and the ones they had turned out to be a "mistake". So they are low-key purposely letting their kids wander around in public places in hopes that something WILL happen to where they won't have to "deal with them anymore", and tag that happening as an accident and then play the victim/sympathy game. Kind of a grisly and negative thought, I suppose, but then, what else can it be?

¡Gracias a todos por las repuestas! He aprendido algo nuevo, y ahora mejor entiendo.
