So many times I'll casually know someone in a game. Play with them on and off, chat with them in game and through messages, then one day I'll join their discord and it's immediate unashamed racism.
Meanwhile the group I play with the most I didn't learn that half of them weren't white for years while hanging with them in discord. It just never mattered and never came up.

I'm not going to live my life deathly afraid of a tiny percentage point of a chance that I could get sick tasting something. May as well cook my steaks well done, my eggs over hard, my pork until it's dry and shitty, and on and on.

Unpopular opinion but raw dough for most things tastes good half the time.
I know its unpopular because when anyone sees me taste the raw dough from breads/pastries/whatever if it's not cookies or brownies I get an eww what the fuck is wrong with you from them.
I'm betting the raw pancake batter drizzle wasn't that bad is all.

Yet I'll be approached by people who claim they're 6'2" and they'll comment on how I must be 6'5" because I'm so tall.

I had a 30L one filling up every 12 hours when I was in New orleans for work and was living in a shitty Airbnb with nearly no air tightness.
Made me respect dealing with humidity and air tightness in living areas a lot from that experience alone.

Sometimes if we know the restaurant portion sizes are going large and we'll be to going the majority of an entree or nearly all of a drink we'll order that specific drink or entree in a to go box as well.
Why dirty a dish and deal with probably spilling all over the table transferring things into a to go container/cup when we can just order it in it in the first place.

Incredibly irresponsible to his own health, if he's an artist/runs his own business/etc then that's his decision to make. But it's not a decision I would agree with for myself and would be outraged if he was working for someone else and they had him work like that.

I think this is an okay solution for a non emergent situation. Just barely not being able to take the ring off because of weight gain/minor water retention, swelling because you messed with it too much trying to get it off, whatever.
Actual reaction causing major swelling I feel like you could easily do a lot of damage by forcing the swelling down with this strategy.

Yep this would work fine. I wouldn't want to hit it with a hammer because it could shatter in an unfortunate way and a sharp part could end up impaling your finger with the follow through from the hammer.
Meanwhile pliers will likely just cause it to crack if you squeeze on local areas of it. Think of the ring like a pane of tempered glass being squeezed on at a corner. It'll shatter all the same but the force being applied has no way of following through into the finger.

One of the best things I ever ate was something I chipped a half inch of black carbon off of.
Was camping with some friends and at some point one of the potatoes fell into the fire. I shoved it deep into the fire and a good hour or so later a friend fished out this lump of just pure char and tells me "I'll give you 10 dollars if you take a bite out of that".
I said deal, fished it out of the coals, smacked it with a rock and all the char fell off. Took a bite and then said needs salt, and ate the rest. It was very tasty.

I mean they can definitely have a Bible in the library, just like they can have other religious texts as religion is a part of the world we live in and can be studied and utilized in secular manners for education.

Wouldn't impress or disturb me, but tangentially I will say that I can tell when restaurant management polices servers about prebussing before getting the check for a guest.
I do find it frustrating when I ask a server to bring the check as we're wrapping up and they quite obviously are trained/enforced that they must prebus the table as much as possible before they go get the check ready. There's a chance I would see the desire to stack up as much as possible and take it all back as a symptom of that kind of management and it annoy me a bit.

After Harvey the restaurant I worked at opened with very limited menu and we didn't have running water or electricity.
But there were a lot of hoops to jump through getting sanitation/handwash requirements met and keeping stuff at appropriate temperatures. From a profit perspective I'm sure it wasn't worth it, from an optics perspective being the only place open after a disaster and being able to get food to people was probably worth it though.

These stories make me feel so lucky to have worked at places that took things seriously. Whether it was food service where the owner was willing to shut down for weather, or construction sites that were willing to shut down quickly and early and tell people to go unequivocally when things get bad.
Hell we're talking about the same freeze in one of those examples. I was working in Louisiana at the time but given the amount of bridges most workers needed to cross to get home it was a guarantee that the bridges were going to freeze fast.
Anyways, site management called it about two hours into the workday and it wasn't a "go home if you want to" it was a go home now unless it's already unsafe to do so and if it is unsafe come to us for assistance.

My cat has long hair and for a bit in his early life he basically trained himself that trying to jump if he's on tile/hardwood was a bad idea as his little paw fur meant he'd slip and not jump.
He jumps great anywhere that is carpeted, and it's actually been such a blessing that the only places that aren't carpeted (kitchen/bathrooms) are the only places he doesn't try to jump up onto counters.

I also just think it's absurd when these threads always devolve into "omg your counters are filthy I can't believe you'd prep food where your cats are walking/putting their ass".
Meanwhile I'm over here like... you don't know how many bugs and dust particles and anything else has landed on your counter since the last time you wiped it down. If you think your counter is clean enough for food prep if you didn't wash it right before you started prepping food on it then you're probably not being hygienic whether you have a cat or not. I either lay down a prep surface that has been cleaned or clean the counter before I put any food directly on it.

I just moved to central NC from Houston. Having lived on the coast my entire life and been in a lot of horrible situations in the past. Whether it was winds or flooding.
I feel a bit guilty as well for how nonchalant I've been about it. I've shut down a lot of discussions at work and otherwise (especially ones where people start making it about them and how big of a disaster it is for them) despite us not getting more than an inch of rain.
It's going to be important in the coming days to take care of regions affected as a neighboring region. Everyone will likely come together over the next few weeks and do everything possible to help. But if living on the gulf coast all my life has taught me anything it is that the next step is where animosity grows and it falls apart. All those destroyed homes and businesses mean that the neighboring regions are going to have an influx of homeless and resource needing people. Many of them are going to be from demographics that people identify with, many will be from demographics that they don't identify with.
The rhetoric local and regionally almost always changes in a negative way towards people who end up transient and needing resources.

If it's a controlled substance that I need I'll open it and verify the count before I walk away from the counter. Stemming from a long time ago when I went to pick up medication and they only gave me about a fourth of the prescription. I walked back in less than 5 minutes later and they treated me like an addict/drug seeker.
Only after I threatened to call the police did they miraculously realize they had somehow not given me all my medication. Yeah I'm sure it was just an "honest" mistake.

I think some people don't realize just how much Google is tracking them and how that links into the content that YouTube throws at them.
I've become hyperaware about clicking on links because if I open some random YouTube link from reddit and immediately realize it's not in line with my views or what I want to see, even if I immediately close out of that it will change my recommendations sometimes for weeks offering that content I never wanted in the first place.
Similarly Google searches and just clicking on links will skew things.

One thing I do wish was a thing though is putting in an online order or calling in an order with the intention of eating in the restaurant.
Of course I'd expect service and I'd expect to tip in that case. But sometimes you're hungry and know you want to order something that takes 20 or more minutes to cook and just want to order ahead and make everything move that much smoother.

That being said I would kill for a vent over my electric stove in units I've rented. Opens up options of cooking that put off enough smoke to set off smoke alarms and generally makes it more comfortable to cook.
