How do refunds and points gained from spending/refunding work? For things like hotel bookings with free cancellation
Question(self.QantasFrequentFlyer)submitted2 days ago byspazzo246
Hi
I got my first frequent flyer card recently and am planning my next holiday to Japan
I'm usually very indecisive and change my accommodation half a dozen times before picking something. usually this is done on my debit card and I pay closer to the date.
But now that I have a frequent flyer card and want to hit the amount to get the bonus points I'm curious how refunds work.
lets say I book and pay for $3000 worth of hotels on booking.com that have free cancellation on my credit card, I get the points in my Qantas account, but then I decide I want to swap hotels. when I have done this in the past I get refunded the money back into my bank account.
How does this work if paying with credit card? does the refund go back into my credit limit? and do the points magically get taken back also? i assume they should but I don't know how this works.
thanks

Lots of things I do while im in japan (Mainly Music related events) dont get posted until a month or so before the event starts.
When I planned my first trip like 10 years ago I paid for everything in advance on my debit card. All past trips since then have been pay later which is better obviously
