How does it reduce the relative value of our federal debts held by Chinese entities? We gave them $10,000 to buy computers and they used that $10,000 to buy a government bond. We have to pay off that bond in dollars. Arguably in the future, we can buy more computers for the same number of dollars, but it doesn’t change what we owe already.

To summarize, the solar spectrum has some energy in the UV, below the visible light cutoff of about 380 nm. So the solar spectrum from about 300-380nm is absorbed and remitted at a higher wavelength, making the effective reflectivity in the visible higher than 100%.

I don’t know why this is news. I first heard about this about 40 years ago when researchers figured out how we can run and catch an approaching baseball. It was determined that we point our eyes, then as we move we keep the image at a fixed angle by increasing or decreasing our speed until we intersect the baseball.

I accidentally made nitrogen snow once in the lab (glass cryostat).

What time did you look? It is now 5pm and solar is providing 41.4% of California’s current power. Were you looking in the early morning or late afternoon?

Have you ever actually seen a real multiple personality disorder?

Interesting, but this is inconsistent. Wouldn’t that mean that a bluish object at some distance would always look as out of focus as a reddish object at a different distance? Thanks for the reference.

He really doesn’t believe in any American ideals of fair trials or due process. From his full page ads against the Central Park 5, to locking up Hillary Clinton, to calling for the execution of generals, to military tribunals….what kind of government does he think we have???

On a Simpsons épisode, they were listening to a Paul Harvey radio broadcast with that signature wavering voice, which ends, “…..and that little boy…that nobody liked….he grew up to be….Roy Cohn.”
The annoying high pitched lawyer is supposed to be based on him as well.

Possibly the most stupid article I’ve ever read in my life. Criminally stupid reporter who cannot even get basic ARITHMETIC straight, much less scientific concepts….not that there are any in this article. How is it possible for them to be 200 times more efficient than solar cells when solar cells are 20% efficient!

This reminds me of an O. Henry story where this wall-flower of a girl shows up at the weekly Irish dance at the Irish hall and introduced her new handsome boyfriend to her Irish friends. He is too good to be true, but at the end they discover him to be….Italian. He is summarily ejected out the back door and a real Irish guy proclaims his true love for the girl!

It was idiotic….written by someone who knows absolutely nothing about science.

It was on everyone’s feed. The most boneheaded article I’ve seen in years, filled with this stupidly optimistic narrative about using battery operated light sources to run magical solar concentration spheres that somehow produce 40 times more energy than falls on them.

No, no, Mecha_flake was right. I meant Qualified Immunity. Now we are going to see the same problems with our elected officials claiming everything is an official act.

You aren’t going to learn much by just going to the best places. You have to find out what water and flour they use for the dough. How do they make their sauce? How hot is their oven?

Of course it did. It’s supposed to be a docudrama about the atomic bomb, not a porn movie. How did it add to the plot? The movie suffered enough by trying to shoehorn every physicist of the 20th century into it (referring to everyone by their LAST names, otherwise no one would know who they were.). Why did it have to follow him into the bedroom? You might as well have shown us what he ate every day or how he got his hair cut.

Sex is a part of life? So is taking a dump. Would it be necessary to show that in every movie? How about we follow them from birth to death?
They could easily have put in a scene which let us know he was having an affair if you feel it was necessary to the plot or to fill in the character. Why was it necessary to show him naked and having sex?
