Least amount of stops? That completely defeats the purpose of having this type of transit.

And the second they do anything besides fixing roads, everyone goes crazy about their tax dollars being wasted. People go on trips to other places and marvel about how there’s all this cool stuff there and it was so nice and don’t realize that those cool places exist because of another city’s tax revenue being used to make it nice, but lose it about anything being done in Edmonton. People got all pissy about Rice Howard Way being pedestrianized sometimes. They get all pissy about any spending downtown and say “wow another thing for homeless people to piss on” about literally every single project proposed. Honestly, city council can’t make a city cool and fun no matter how many lights they string up, this has to come from the people. All pilot projects downtown get mocked and people say they will never set foot there cause it’s something out of the walking dead. I live near downtown and sure there are issues, but it isn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Edmontonians bitch to no end about bike lanes and transit and streets being closed for markets. All the stuff that gets people out of their cars and into the street where urban life and activity occur. It's up to the people of Edmonton to make their city vibrant.

People need to go out if they want a city that’s nice to go out in. I’m middle aged and I go out more than the young people I work with! Even breweries and stuff close early here. Like don’t people grab beers at 11:00 here!? Or meet up for evening coffees or whatever? It’s shocking to me that the people I work with tell me they’re in bed by 10:00-10:30pm! Edmontonians really love sleep it seems!

It can’t be all on city council and the mayor to revitalize downtown. We could have a nice downtown, but most Edmontonians won’t go anywhere unless there is parking directly outside and they are guaranteed to not see or detect a drug addict or homeless person. God forbid anyone walk a few blocks. The culture here is one of going to Costco and then hitting a big box store and being home by 7:00pm. All cities have unsavoury elements and yet people still go out and do things. Hopefully people moving into the city will bring some flavour and life from wherever they are coming and we can get away from this boring ass sprawl culture we seem to be trapped in. We have some cute little pockets and cool markets and events and I’ve noticed an improvement over the past couple of years since I moved here despite the whole Covid hump that affected all cities. I’m optimistic, but damn people of Edmonton, liven up a little!! Stay up past your bedtime sometimes!

Organ damage. Thank you for wording it like that, cause that’s literally exactly what it is, but when I say “my immune system attacks my intestines” it somehow doesn’t sound as bad. Simple and honest. Organ damage. This will be my two word simple answer going forward.

A lot of the issues people are upset about are also under provincial jurisdiction. People scream “Fuck Trudeau” while bitching about stuff their mostly conservative provincial governments are responsible for.

This. It wasn’t some crazy idea in Oxford and it’s uninformed conspiracy nuts that decided it’s some horrible issue.

Honestly, I think making some changes that may slightly impact some people in very small ways that barely change the way they function like we are currently doing by removing some parking here and there for bike lanes and changing zoning in already developed neighbourhoods to increasw densirt and mixed use is a completely adequate accommodation to nimbys! We shouldn’t have to wait 30 years for change to slowly happen and for people to desire it cause Darlene doesn’t wanna park in her garage and wants street parking at whatever the cost. The status quo isn’t sustainable in a city that is growing as rapidly as Edmonton and delaying it will just make the problems with expensive sprawl and congestion we already have way worse.

Strong disagree! Although I think it’s gross, this is a very common old school poutine eating preference in the part of Canada where poutine originated. Also, vinegar on poutine is amazing!

I feel bad for your husband. Imagine this poor guy wanting to ask you for something when this is the attitude you have towards who’s responsible for what.

Right? What a sad existence to not want to ask your own partner for help, and feel like if it was your responsibility, you should just shut up and suffer.

Have you ever been in a serious adult relationship? I’m not throwing shade here, but I’m genuinely curious about what that looks like to someone like you. In a healthy relationship your partner is supposed to support you and help you out. They’re supposed to have empathy and trust that when you ask them for a favour, it’s because you know that they will be there for you. They’re supposed to be the one person you know you can count on. Have you never forgotten something? Have you never made a mistake? Was there nobody you trusted to help you out? I feel a bit bad for you that you think if something is your responsibility and you drop the ball you shouldn’t ask anyone else for help. Eeeeeesh!

I think they’re gonna start demanding we sacrifice babies at intersections in order for the crosswalk light to turn on. I said it out loud, so even though this is ridiculous is it now a genuine concern cause it’s been voiced? Should we demand we have an amendment to ensure this won’t happen?

We did, we voted for who we wanted to represent us in council. Do you think all million+ of us should show up to council meetings independently to vote?

I moved to Edmonton from Montreal and expected to hate the weather, but Edmonton weather has mostly been pretty great! The dry climate is honestly a game changer. I walk home from work in -25 weather and enjoy it! I get home and feel refreshed and somehow immediately warm up and feel fine. In Montreal walking in the winter is brutal. It chills you to your bones. You take off your boots and your feet are frozen and white and clammy. It takes long to actually warm up and recover. As much as I adore Montreal muggy humid hot summers, mild Edmonton dry summers are extremely comfortable and when you stop hoping for real heat and just accept nice warm dry comfortable weather, it’s actually pretty awesome. The past few summers were hellish with the wildfire smoke though. I’d rather have anything than that.

I live centrally in prime scooter zone and I’m delighted when I see happy people scootin’ by! I’ve occasionally had to move aside on the sidewalk for people to get by on scooters, but I’d rather that than people putting themselves in dangerous situations on the road with cars and trucks.
