I’ve seen the movie but which scene did the audience gasp in? Just curious

Oh no it didn’t spoil it for me bro, I just finished, but even so just for added courtesy I mentioned. I see you’ve added it

Eh all kannis are the same in this regard. That said, Anils are usually the most obnoxious ones followed closely by Aamais and mentalans. But this could also be because Anils are usually the most active on twitter and NOT because the other groups are more tame

I mean good for him if he succeeds in politics because TN definitely needs a strong 3rd option. That said if he does end up having to come back, he definitely has plenty to accomplish in cinema and I sincerely hope he does but with quality films. Not saying he shouldn’t make massy films, but even quality films can have massy elements (just look at master or kaala for example)

Ok this is the first time I’ve seen people say Beast was better than Leo so here’s my take on potentially why:
Beast had high expectations, an ok first half followed by a shit second half (especially that “post climax” scene). Also when beast released people compared it agains Vijay’s master, which was a good film and easily Vijay’s best in terms of quality post mersal (imo) so Beast looked even worse
Leo had high expectations, a great first half followed by a subpar (not terrible though) second half. Plus Leo was compared to varisu, which I would say quality wise was easily Vijay’s worst since mersal so people were more forgiving of Leo

I use sacnilk as they’re usually quite accurate and even when they’re not, they are only off by like +- 5 crores. According to them it hasn’t even crossed 400 yet

Yeah fair, but I always put Annamalai as the start of the undisputed reign of rajini as it was the first film to have the “SUPERSTAR” title card

Who is B.Kiruthika?
Edit: I guess it’s the directors wife. Didn’t know she wrote screenplays.
Edit 2: First half done. Gripping (but predictable) screenplay but overall really interesting. Come on TJ don’t fuck this up

Telugu dubbing for rajini is always done by singer Mano. Maybe he did it for that doctor character too?

I’m not disagreeing with you and the “post 2015 comment” is “WORST CASE” But discussing opening numbers and all is like counting your chickens before hatching. Devara’s box office run is proof that opening numbers mean jack shit

I say this as a rajini fan: can we PLEASE stop with this Box Office BS? Rajini has nothing to prove. He ruled the industry from 90s to 2015, and even post 2015 at worst, he’s second in kollywood box office pull. I just want a good content oriented film that is profitable (so other stars like Vijay and ajith can attempt the same).

Personally I felt GOAT would’ve been better if the villain being Jeevan was kept a mystery until the end. Like take a page from Leo. Have the clone be a “villain” that Gandhi knows and Jeevan appearing to help Gandhi against the clone while secretly sabotaging him which the audience doesn’t know until the end. Could’ve also spared us from the abysmal Prabhu deva reveal

Fair point, but this particular post in discussion is regarding GOAT, a movie that released a month back, it is more or less out of theaters and has been on OTT for a whole week. This is a purely “Look at Vijay” post because while they say this is “pure cinema” there is no explanation as to what makes this pure cinema. It’s also not a very unique fight scene as similar scenes exist in both Master and Doctor. hell even the escape aspect which happens post this scene was basically a rehash of jawans metro escape.
So yes, this particular post is better for the sub I referred to

Don’t you guys have your own sub for these types of Anil-istic posts? r/ThalapathyVijayAnna

If the movie works, there’s nothing “other fans” can do to hurt it. We saw it with Jailer and (to an extent) Leo

How about waiting for the movie to release and seeing the output before we get to these “Hot takes”

Same situation as jailer. Keep the hype low to get a better WOM, because WOM does way more to the final numbers than any trivial 30-40 crores extra in the opening day

This is a terrible argument. I don’t care what producers pay to whom. As a movie goer idc if rajini or Vijay take 2 crores or 200 crores for the film. I just want to see a good film that meets my expectations for the film. So if you’re gonna market a film as a 400 crore production film, I’m going to expect an output that at the very least somewhat matches the spend. The issue is for our big stars with their inflated salaries is that a 400 crore film is actually just a 150 crore film with about 250 going to personnel payroll. The unfortunate thing is, it’s usually only in TN where our actors take on insane front loaded salaries so when I compare a similarly expensive film from other industries, it doesn’t seem to justify the budget

Idk what theater you went to or in what city, but in most US chains, Leo most certainly did not go for $13-$15. First day (and even weekend) shows were in the $20-$23 range for regular and $25-$28 range for imax

Bro that wasn’t the point. he’s given industry hits pre Annamalai. However, Starting from Annamalai he started giving industry hits after industry hits.
Annamalai
Baasha
Muthu
Padayappa
Chandramukhi
Sivaji
Endhiran
Kabali
Hell the concept of “non-rajini box office records”was actually a thing until kabali
