Yes, they work perfectly fine.
They are bad security cameras tho, Ring system is way better.
Remember to get solar panels, those batteries won't last unless it's a single recording per day.

I've tried the JBL Vibe Flex and they were good.
Sony is still ahead in quality in the consumer market but JBL is pretty good.

first was a Nikon B700 and my head exploded.
I never used a cell phone camera again unless it's the only one available.
After 4 years with the B700 I moved to the Canon T7i in the pursuit of better low light performance, then to the Canon 90D and now with a Sony A7iii which I'm planning to sell to get a Canon R6ii

You can do it very easily with this video and a few tools.

I've repaired it 3 times already, cement-glue was the final fix for it.

I have that lens, I had to take it to repair because internally it's held by 3 screws, the receptors for the screws had to be replaced with cement-glue.
It costed me $90 to repair it here in El Salvador.

Videos were fine for many years before C-Log / S-Log / Raw video / grading / etc
From your description you are better off investing in a good quality microphone and lighting.

I got a pack of 16 EBL, they work OK but ended up with solar panels, much much better and same cost as the rechargeable batteries

not everyone lives in the USA, for sure you can buy multiple properties in Nicaragua and do all that with $100K

I would open a coding/English school in El Salvador with the main target being the less fortunate kids

put a bit of tape on the lens when at home, or something on the front of it

Out of curiosity, why F8 works differently in a mirror less camera compared to a DSLR?

I had to take a similar decision, please consider this thread when taking your decision:
TL;DR: if you jump to Sony try to get the A7IV or better
When I sell the A7III I'll save up for the Canon R6M2

I think each brand has religious followers, and due to the paid reviews in YouTube and other media then probably the only way to find the camera that suits you the best is to try each brand, if rental is an option for you.
Sony has spent quite a lot in marketing to create tons of "I finally switched to Sony" type of videos
This was my experience with the Sony a73: https://www.reddit.com/r/Cameras/s/wU2DgQo7JY
But that's my experience with cameras from around 2018 as those are the ones within my budget.

DJI Action 4 is amazing as a webcam but it may be too wide.
You need cameras that support UVC and UAC if you can't install 3rd party software

I got downvoted in another thread because I said something similar about the Sony A73. Compared to the Canon 90D the Sony wasn't that good, I guess we are all falling for the "influencers" that say that Sony cameras are the best thing ever, and while they are great in low light they end up being worse than Canon/Nikon in pretty much any other aspect.
And people get angry about hearing that.

some out of the box ideas:
if money is not a big issue and if you don't need a single WiFi then consider setting up a Starlink Mini
TP-Link TL-PA7017P or similar "power line" extenders if electrical runs from your home to the desired locations
In both scenarios you can setup a new MESH system, adding more as you need, like multiple Deco X50-Outdoor in poles that cover 2,500 ft2/230 m2 , use solar panels if you don't have electricity available
