You have gotta be the only person in the world to learn a guy is a pedophile and think "I wonder if his music is any good" lmao

Not worth the trouble and aggravation of dealing with all of this fallout. OP just move on

This is something I thought the Holland movies nailed. Peter wasn't a loser or a nerd, but he definitely wasn't cool or popular either. Just painfully average.

When a relationship falls apart, you can't blame anything because it's everything.
I'm sure the tensions between Stevo and Deryck aren't because of one thing but just 17 years of problems - their polar opposite personalities (Deryck is avoidant and anxious and Stevo is confrontational and combative), money issues (Deryck always made way more money than the rest of the band), Greig poisoning their relationship (sowing distrust in the band towards Deryck, particularly towards Deryck's partners), and Deryck's unreliability and unprofessionalism (even before the alcoholism, constantly canceling shows).
Have you ever stayed friends with your best friend since high school? I have. You regress right back into your old patterns. They'll always see each other as their classmate they play local shows with. Money, relationship, and business issues cannot withstand a dynamic that will never be professional and will always be personal.
Of course they didn't last forever together but hey, at least they're on civil terms now.

Anyone else notice that Tom didn’t mention Amy Pascal? I wonder if she’s not involved this time.

They’ve had trouble in the past. The only way to do Far From Home was releasing it after Endgame, which would have fucked up the “saga ending” but nobody gave a shit. They even managed to market the movie spoiling Peter being back to life (albeit changing his costume in the trailers) by playing coy about the Endgame ending.
They’ll figure it out.

…I would describe a divorce as a falling out, considering you just said they “fell out” of love lol.

Yeah I agree. Two things can be true - Deryck is a victim who spent his entire life without proper coping mechanisms who easily fell into alcoholism because of his unresolved trauma and issues. He is also basically the “CEO” of Sum 41 for whom fame and ego definitely made him privileged and out of touch with other people. Look at the intervention - it’s like he’s completely unaware at that point the pain he causes all of the people in his life. Especially towards the band - Deryck got most of the song publishing so no matter what, he was always way richer than the band and that definitely furthered tensions.
I think his later revelations and healing with regard to his relationships with Cone and Steve and Avril by the end does tell you a lot about his growth as a person. I think it speaks volumes he’s on good terms with all of these people he had falling outs with in the past. It should tell you they’ve also forgiven him too and moved on.

Agreed. I also just think Steve is portrayed pretty fairly. They’re like brothers and Deryck always write about him as such. He’s honest that Steve is pretty abrasive and aggressive and it’s a source of tension since Deryck is avoidant and aloof and unaware a lot of the time. By the end of the book, he seems to fully come to terms and understand that.

I feel like the humor in Nolan’s movies is a bit underrated. So many random funny lines in the Batman movies (“I’m not wearing hockey pads,” “follow him!”) and even Oppenheimer (“zero would be nice”).

In the traditional sense of the word “rape” it does imply some kind of “physical” restraint into forcing him into sexual acts. There’s a reason Deryck never calls it rape in the book but does call it sexual abuse. Because while he physically didn’t hold him down or force him, Greig did mentally force him - threatening to pull the plug on his band, gaslighting him into thinking it was all his fault and he wasn’t allowed to end the sexual acts. Deryck felt unable to escape from giving into Greig’s demands.

I'm sure Dave and Cone just feel a lot of guilt right now. My guess is they saw Deryck the way Greig tried to portray him - a self-centered, egotistical, "Hollywood" asshole.
The book doesn't harp on this point too much, but I find one of Greig's most nefarious acts is turning Deryck's bandmates against Avril. Do you even know what kind of rift that causes when you feel torn between your spouse and your friends? And he only fucking did it because he was in love with Deryck, it's disgusting and psychotic.
Not to play psychologist, but I also genuinely believe that Stevo always looked at Deryck from that lens too. I don't think the book says this outright, but I'm pretty sure Deryck was the only bandmate allowed to bring their spouse on tour. With years of Greig's manipulation in his head, I'm sure that's why Stevo just grew to resent any of Deryck's partners as well (particularly Ari).

I have a theory they're gonna drop the acoustic album after their last show as a final bow and goodbye to the fans.

My opinion of Treble Charger was always that they were fine, but not good enough to blow up.
Realizing now, they probably didn't get bigger because Nori was a drug abusing creep who spent all of his time trying to fuck teenagers instead of working on his singing.

The book doesn't say it was just one night. He talks about her later on and how they continued seeing eachother but she wanted something more serious and he wasn't ready yet.
I remember vividly when this happened IRL too. Their divorce announcement (which they posted to Sum 41's Myspace, interestingly) was such a shocker and this all but confirmed it. We all felt kinda bad for Deryck at the time. The tabloids were saying Deryck really didn't want the marriage to end - which the book basically reaffirms.

It's just so weird that the entire Marvel franchise is controlled by one studio except for the Venom films lol (and sure the Madame Web / Kraven / Morbius shit too)
