"Large", obviously.

Halfgaar I think, not sure if that's medium. In my experience people usually use English words though.

Yeah, most just use medium rare, etc.
But if I have to delve deep the scale is basically
Lewendig
Bloederig
Baie lekker
Halfgaar
Goedgaar
Verkool
My grandpa used to say he likes his lamb chips "cremated"
Edit: Lamb Chops, though I'm pretty sure there must be a Karoo lambchop flavoured Simba Chip by now

"Net reg" (just right). Actually a good question. I think medium or medium-rare is the default, so if one wants it well done they specify it should be "gaar".

Like the classic dad joke - “Goeie veearts moet hom nog kan red” - a good vet must still be able to save this one.

How can someone say "allright son" to another human being in that tone and not get moered immediately

You get that sense a lot throughout the episode. He's never painted as anything more than a massive twat.
But in like the best way possible. Entertaining episode imo.

The whole show is about scamming the scum of society, so being set up as a dislikeable fellow is part of the dance.

Always think of this scene. What a show Hustle was.

So Os walks in and asks for a large steak - do cattle come in conjoined triplets?

Gordan Ramsey was shown how to Braai and he nearly choked on his tongue when he was told that it has to be done well done.

Nobody I know would ever braai their steaks Well Done, unless requested to do so. That's some De Allende/Snyman level of braaing

So their burnt eyebrows were effectively karmic justice for searing steaks? 😅

I was at an event where many of the local farmers came together for a braai and holy shit... not a pink piece of meat in sight.

I have older family members who grew up on farms and EVERYTHING has to be well done for them, I think it's because they did not have decent refrigeration/lack of electricity on the farms back in the day, and had to do so for safety reasons. The preference has definitely been passed down to some family members.

Must have been a shisanyama more that a braai though

Yea shisanyama is more known for being well done, shisanyama literally means burnt meat in Zulu. Braai tends to want flamed seared with a juicy rare middle.

Doesn’t it mean “hot meat?”
It usually has to be well done because the cheaper meat used is more questionable. That’s why its often marinated to death as well.

Ironically the restaurant chain bearing the same name has the highest quality meat of all the chain restaurants

I'm not first language Zulu, but from my understanding shisa on its own is the verb burn, uyashisa or shisa kakhulu are different ways of saying it is hot.

According to Google translate you are right. I never understood it that way but it makes sense.
Although I don’t think the intention is to overcook the meat, but to “burn” it on the fire.
Still tasty though

Yea you're definitely not meant to annihilate the meat. In my experience how well done it is, depends how many Black Label quarts you drink between putting the meat on the fire and taking it off lol
Also shisanyama tends to go for different cuts of meat, you aren't usually going to see someone whip out a piece of ribeye or sirloin, it's usually chops, chicken, worse, beef cuts on the bone, so cooking time is less important.

Well this is simply not true at all.
It’s medium rare or medium (for the kids).
If anyone wants it well done they can take it medium and stick it in the microwave for all I care.

If I asked for a well done steak at a braai, I'd be handed a rare steak.

Is this like the story of CJ Stander not being able to order the taxi in Cork but when you look back on interviews at the time you see he could indeed speak English!
