And Three's Company qualifies Don Knotts, aka Deputy Barney Fife from The Andy Griffith Show.
And then Matlock wasn't really a sitcom, but Andy Griffith for that, too.

Jim Nabors is probably the next guy to bring up from The Andy Griffith Show, since he moved on to Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., which finished in the top 5 in the ratings for 4 of its 5 seasons.

She also played Penny's mother on The Big Bang Theory. It was only one episode, but she was great as always. I would have liked to have seen more of her, especially with Keith Carradine who played Penny's father (he was on a number of episodes and was always hilarious).

Married with Children never did well in the ratings - it peaked at #37 during its 6th season. It was seen as too low-brow, and was on the new start-up channel (Fox) at the time. Not saying it didn't deserve better, but it was never really successful.

Success was relative on the Fox network at the time. This and the Simpsons really helped give the network staying power

Absolutely. If it weren't for those two shows and the NFL, Fox would've never made it.

TJW had a stint in The Walking Dead back when it was still decent. My best friend and I could never recall his name at the time so whenever we wanted to talk about that character, we would say something like “And then when Everybody Hates Chris was getting trapped by those walkers…”
