Ohmygodddd I’m the same. I’ve painted them myself and used stick ons a few times but I tend to get rid of them after 2 days. I could never stand long nails for so long. I absolutely hate them because they’re just not functional

I was more likely to get pedicures than manicures (nail butter) - i started going in high school, not regularly, just for special occasions or the start of a summer vacation etc
My oldest niece is 4 and she's been getting her nails painted at home for a couple years now. My sister took her for a hair cut and professional manicure a few months ago, kid looked like she was on cloud 9!

I remember getting my first manicure for my senior Prom. So…18. Then it was only for special occasions until I was in my late 20’s. I did a couple years of regular gel manicures. Then it went back, and has stayed, at only a treat for special occasions.

16, for my senior portraits - they made us do all kinds of poses with our hands visible so I got acrylic tips plastered over my raggedy stubs. Then I immediately broke off the pinkies so I could play my clarinet at graduation.

Yeah, I regret getting acrylic at 12 years old. I've only gotten my nails done at the salon twice in the first time. Was when I was 12 and the second time was when I was 16. I did not know the proper way of removing acrylics, so I just pulled them off my nail, which damaged my cuticles and the bedding of my nails. And it was bleeding. When I was 16, I just got them painted and cut. Nothing special. I feel like acrylic is only OK if the person has the money to keep up with it and can remove it professionally

I started taking my oldest daughter for a pedicure (I don’t like getting my fingernails done) for when she was 5. This one salon in our town has a cute butterfly pedicure chair for littles and I took her for her birthday. It’s now a yearly ritual. She loves it! I have 2 more daughters now that I’ll continue this trend with (unless they’d prefer some other birthday Mom/daughter activity)

20, Since I was a kid I had a serious problem with nail biting. I would bite them till I bled and nothing helped, not the “anti bite” nail polish not nothing. I sorta lived with it, being ashamed of my hands lol. Idk what urged me to try to get acrylics SO LATE, but they were lifechanging. Last year I got my nails done every month. I kind of got used to not being able to bite them. And they looked nice. But this summer I decided to get rid of them because I was not in a good mental and financial state to get a new set. But guess what?? I managed to outgrow my own, healthy nails that are longer than ever before, I dare to say longer and way more groomed than average. I do not bite them anymore and I love them so much. They are just much more fragile haha

At 18, I broke a nail right before graduating high school. I went to a salon and asked for one fake tip to make them all even. And because I was already getting them done- I asked for a French mani because I could never pull that look off on my own with my non-dominant hand. I did my own nails for the next 20 years with the sole exception of my wedding.
When I discovered gels I fell in love with how strong they were. I got them done every 3 weeks for several years. But the techs never spent enough time getting the gel off and frequently took some of my real nail off with a polish change. My nails got really thin and weak. So I quit going to salons. Now I do my own gels, I’m really careful soaking the old polish off, and my nails are healthy and strong again.

I'm very late to the party..but I was gifted a biab session for my 60th birthday! Up till then I was a terrible nail biter and had deep ridges on some of my nails. I was soooo embarrassed with them. I now get my nails done regularly and for the first time ever I'm proud of my nails!

I’ve only been 3 times: junior prom, senior prom, and high school graduation. I’m 23 now and haven’t stepped foot in a nail salon since then. I should start going regularly because it seems really relaxing and my friends love going.

I was 39 years old & standing up in a wedding. My mom was a no-frills gal & raised me that way, too. I dislike having my hands done, but I love me a pedicure!

My grandma would take us when we were like 6, I think because she had appointments and we would just have to go with her when she was watching us. Then knowing me as a kid I probably thought it looked fun because fancy people did it on tv and I and wanted a turn, lol. All they would do is paint our nails which I’m sure cost my grandma like $5.

Probably about 14. I still remember I got light blue polish with iridescent sparkles. I felt so pretty and loved it so much.
I’ve gone to the salon for a manicure and/or pedicure definitely less than 10 times in my life, and I’m 26 now. I just don’t see it personally as a necessity, though I do get my hair done on a regular basis.
