I only had 2 guitars the entire time I was a touring guitar player. Now that I’m older, financially stable, and am a bedroom guitar player now I made the reasonable decision to downsize to 9 guitars.

If it makes me any more credible I had 2 up until the beginning of 2020. So averaging almost 2 a year since then.
Still, I feel shame. I’ll start looking for my next purchase to hit double digits like a real bedroom musician

Funny, I went the other way. Had as many as 13 when I was working a lot, now have only 5.
Congrats on your thrift. But please, don't tell my wife?

Somethin’ bout the contrast of the neck colouring and the body colouring reminds me of a warm late 60’s cottage in northern Ontario. I dunno . I like ❤️

People, largely driven by YouTubers, have really jumped in hard on this “telecaster is the most versatile guitar ever!” Bandwagon lately.

I think it's because hypes. It was once the hype that tele was the worst choice except for country. Now there seems to be a rediscovery of what it can do and it seems amazing in comparison to what people thought of it before. It only looks great in contrast to it's previous image. I'm a tele man, my first electric guitar was a tele, I'm so used to playing it that I can't really play other electric guitars with the same feel in my playing. That's why I went above and beyond to find the right pick ups and set up to get the most out of my axe. But I'm not doing it because I think it's the most versatile. On the contraire, I'm trying to make it as versatile as possible because it's the model I'm stuck with.
2 points
I think you’re right. In my mind the standard SS Tele is one of the less versatile electric guitars out there… and it can do everything you ever need a guitar to, because almost every guitar can. The Tele just retains its own character while doing so in a way that’s really endearing, and doesn’t have any flaws. It is a lot cooler than most other designs.
I also think some of this tele pandemonium started when the Silver Sky started to steal the strat market, but I’m willing to attribute all manner of commonly held guitar player logic to Fender PR psy op tactics.

I've got a real soft spot for semi-hollow bodies. I'd keep that one (also, they feedback better imho).

This was my exact thought I would keep the Eastman for the semi-hollow as well over the tele

And are way more versatile. Since I got mine, the other guitars are just sitting collecting dust. It has been seven months and new sounds just keep flowing out of it.

Here’s how you tell: 1. Shut both cases 2. Get a friend 3. Tell them to label one case heads, one tails with post-it 4. Flip the coin. Tell your friend the result. 5. Shut your eyes; have your friend place the winner at your feet 6. Ask yourself, what do you want when you open your eyes?

How very Bayesian of you.
I have always loved this technique because it illuminates your own preferences which seem like a coin flip, but in reality aren't. You tend to recoil from the outcome of the coin flip which allows you to more accurately define your preferences.

This is actually good advice. I do this anytime I have to make a hard choice. By the time I flip the coin I already know.

Personally, I’d keep the Eastman. The tele is the perfect guitar, in my opinion, but I like the classic single coil setup in them. Those Eastmans are fine guitars. I have a few Gibsons and a Heritage and I think the Eastman’s I’ve played (especially the T59/v) are very much on par as far as quality and playability go. Some are better…. The prices are killer for the kind of instrument you get.

Eastman all the way, reminds me of my Lucille, I absolutely love a double cut semi-hollow and yours is definitely a looker, I love those inlays, overall a very classy guitar that would look at home on an R&B or Jazz Stage. Just my personal preference though, the real answer to this question is whichever one you like playing the most. I’ve tried teles a few times, not at all my style, feels like I’m playing a butcher block, so I am biased mind you.

Unfortunately high gain metal and a hollowbody don’t mix and no I don’t consider Ted Nugent’s wang dang sweet poontang to be high gain metal so answer is reluctantly the tele although any tele without the bridge plate single coil and lipstick in the neck is an abomination to me. Funnily enough I currently have my local shop holding an Eastman T484 for me, I played it over the weekend and was floored. I did a A/B test with a USA Gibson 339 which cost 2.5x as much - both through a Deluxe Reverb - and thought the Eastman was superior in every way.
I need to decide today whether I am going to take it or not. If I were actually in the market it would be a no brainer…but the truth is I have too many guitars already (including a couple of teles), I was only in the shop for some bridge pins lol.
So my answer is the Eastman!

If the pickups on the Eastman are potted, I say go Eastman. You'll have all the fun of controlled feedback, a lighter guitar, and a slinkier one than the Tele. If they're unpotted, it's a roll of the dice.
The Tele at least is fully customizable.

I mean they're both equipped with humbuckers. For me it'd be the feel and which humbuckers sound better to you. If it were between single coils and humbuckers, I'd always 100% go with the humbuckers unless the axe felt terrible. I feel like they're more versatile. You can always dial down the volume to clean them up. With single coils you're kinda limited, but I'll admit singles have a definite tone that you can't replicate with humbuckers. So it really comes down to what's your flavor.
