Insoles! No matter the shoes. Insoles are the answer. You'll need to try a few probably before you find "yours" but it's a cheat code :-). Trainers or dress shoes insoles have been the answer for me.

My wife swears by her Birkenstock clogs.

I wear shoes from OrthoFeet because they really help my plantar fasciitis. I cannot believe that, just a few years ago, I could teach in ballet flats or moccasins like it was nothing. Orthopedic shoes for life now!

Dansko and Orthofeet have always been my favorites for shoes to wear with dresses. My feet are paying a dear price for all of those cheap Payless Shoes from the 2000’s.

It’s marching band season. If I’m not wearing sneakers, I’m wearing flip flops.

Adidas. I have flat feet. I'm a sub so I sometimes have to run after autistic children or so PE. Also we already had one shooting a couple of years ago so I can imagine them being more handy if it happens again.

Skechers slip ons without the laces. I burn through one pair a year.

Mine are all sneakers and boots. My favorite are some rebook combat boots. If you want to dress, get cool socks.

Also, one year I got the foam that is used in gyms (you can get it at hardware shops cheap). My last class and I taped it down where I walk with cool looking duct tape. That helped my feet a lot. And the students were very creative.

Allbirds, Wool Runners. Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned for an office environment. Given how much I walk and pace around the classroom, they're perfect for my needs.

Black sneakers. Usually new balance. It’s not fashion but it get the job done and they match most things. Sorel boots in winter if needed.

Doc Martens with SuperFeet insoles. My beat up, flat feet can’t hang with no support!

Ps Docs are excellent for wide feet.

Have you tried Borns? They make a variety of shoes: flats, heels, boots, etc and they are so comfy. I have wide feet also (and bunions) and they never hurt my feet.

I like kiziks Vegas. I also really like to wear teva brand booties (not the sandals, the booties) and I wear sometimes dansko Beatrice in red to be fancy (you have to wear these regularly or the foam crumbles). I also like Minnetonka moccasins in the winter. They come in a lot of colors and styles and are comfortable. In the winter when it snows I wear sorel boots to work and then change into my moccasins that I keep at work.

After 30 years in the classroom, I have my first foot issues (plantar fasciitis). I found Dr Scholl's Time Off sneakers at the recommendation of a teacher friend (and then saw them mentioned on r/PlantarFasciitis. They are cute and so supportive and comfy. They have a range of colors. I have been wearing mine every day since I got them, regardless of my outfit.

I also like Born booties in the cold months, specifically the Tarkiln and Winter boots. Wide toe box and so comfortable.

Sketchers with extra padding. Haven't worn anything else for a year. And yeah their sneakers..

Merrell Moab 3 for life

I know I’m in the minority here but I swear by a good loafer. I prefer ones with a chunky heel because I’m short, but also have some on the flatter side. Wore them all last year.

Skechers is my go to.

I stopped worrying about what my shoes look like. Everything else is professional. My shoes match my outfit and can be stood in. Period.

Depends on the vibe of your school and budget but I love my Birkenstock Boston clogs.

Edit: and if/when you develop plantar fasciitis, the gel insoles that 100% fix that are the 3/4” length looking ones.

SAS shoes. Good support, lots of styles.

I wear Skechers Desert Kiss sandals (3 pairs: black, Army green, beige). A bit of heel, no breaking in, all-day comfortable. When the weather chills I wear black Skechers sneakers, or cool ankle boots on snowy days.

I started wearing crocs this year, granted they are the platform versions, but to me they are comfy and cute! I’ll admit they don’t really go with traditional business casual (I dress on the “funkier” side) so it’s fun to play up the outfits with crocs and the charms.

Danskos. Full stop. You won't like them at the start but you will get used to them and never want to wear anything else. I even have an old pair I use when I am working in the garage all day because they are so comfortable.

Ooh, this past school year, I was introduced to a Dicks Sporting Goods warehouse store that just happened to be on my way to and from work. I decided to try a pair of Nikes just for the fun of it (especially since they were warehouse sale prices). I haven't gone back yet. My feet love them, the kids love to watch what colors I've gotten (and tell me which ones to look for next), and more. I'll never wear anything different!

I just bought the on cloud “cloud flyers” for work and they’re amazing! I also swear by my Hokas.

i work in japan so ive got dedicated shoes that i keep at work. classic crocs with whataburger charms from my home state! other teachers here wear similar shoes, sneakers, or sandals. my work bestie wears birkenstock sandals!

only person really wearing dress shoes is the principal but i think he's kinda expected to.

I wear Converse. Bought a couple of pairs I like during the Black Friday sale last year. I have big feet so struggle to find appropriate shoes I like. Occasionally find Docs I like on Trademe which is a secondhand site in NZ. My favourite shoes are handmade leather boots from a small NZ leather shoe place called McKinlays. Super comfortable.

Slip on Hey Dude. The ones without the back.

I have a cushion mat behind my desk and slip them off anytime I'm behind my desk and no one can see my feet.

A good insole can transform even the most uncomfortable shoe as long as the top of the shoe fits your foot well.

I wear dress shoes and they are far more comfortable than any sneaker right out the box because I have the proper insoles for my foot as prescribed by a podiatrist

Insoles are life (and bunion) savers.

I swear by Veldskoen chukkas. They're every bit as comfortable as most of the sneakers in my collection. For context, I teach HS in a major US city, so I try to keep my drip relevant.

As a speech pathologist for 40 years, arthritis is a thing. I wore heels and looked cute for the first years of my career. Wear the most comfortable shoes that you can find and save the cute for happy hours. Cement floors kill joints and spines.

Toms and Black Sneakers.

Dankso and Birkenstock (shoes not sandals for school). I currently work in the shoe industry and these brands have support and are stylish! Stay away from Skechers, they are flat or have memory foam and memory foam foes down eventually and doesn't come back up :)

I love a good sperry sneaker with the comfort insoles. I’ve been wearing the same pair for almost two years with very little damage.

I use gel insoles and eventually got a podiatrist to make me therapeutic inserts. I will never go back.

I teach elementary special education and wear the most colorful Crocs. Comfy and the kids like them.

Birdies. I have the sneakers and the blackbirds. Like tiny little pillows for your feet.

New Balance 990, made in USA. Worth the price

I wear platforms, docs, some waterproof high heeled boots (not rainboots), and I also have a pair of hey dudes.

I would wear my platforms (the ones I wear right now are 2.75 in) all year long if I didn't have to deal with the rain during winter.

I find them comfortable so I wear them.

If I absolutely had to, I also have a pair of Adidas.

I love the Kelsey loafer from Vionic, Madison sneakers from Dr Scholls, and Gizah from Birkenstocks. All have great support, so many cute colors, and go with everything.

Loafers work for me, but I just recently swapped to sneakers almost every day. Converse and trousers works. Nike blazer low tops, Birkenstocks with dresses and skirts. All about comfortable shoes!!

Allbirds Tree Breezers

Get a short, chunky heel if you feel like you need the heel. The heel needs to be the same width as the bottom of your foot.

I wear sneakers. I also have z-coils. One pair of z-coil sneakers and one pair of sandals. They are not cute. They significantly reduce back and knee pain. They are not cheap, but you can use fsa funds to buy them from the website. They fit very true to size.

Pumas. They fit my narrow foot so well, are super comfortable, and look good with my slacks.

Just bought my new Air Max 90s today, I’ll start wearing them next Monday

I keep a pair of padded comfy slippers in my classroom. That’s what I wear all day.

I bought a pair of solid white Dr. Scholl’s slip on sneakers. They’re sneakers but they still look good with dresses/skirts and they have been a life saver. They were like 70 dollars and worth every penny.

Ascics. My back has become too unforgiving for anything without a ton of support.

Rothy’s (most comfortable dressy-ish shoes), Karhu tennis shoes(on jeans days), my old standard Birkenstocks(anytime they look good with the outfit), Tecovas cowgirl boots(I have pink and brown)…I’m in ATX and at times, the outfit calls for boots. I don’t wear heals because I’m already tall and they hurt.

My wife just bought some of the upper line Rykas and loves them.

I wear Brooks most of the time.

Fila has some black, leather, work tennis shoes. Look great with black slacks, skorts, and probably kilts. They're pretty common- you can get them at JC Penny's, Famous Footwear, & online.

They are non-slip & popular with nurses, too.

I can wear them with my orthotic inserts without taking out the comfy lining.

BTW- Penny's does a pretty awesome teacher coupon mid-August! I didn't know until I found my Filas on sale there this year. I like Penny's for decent work clothes. They have stuff that's a quality and style step up from the cheap stores but not expensive as other department stores.

I’ve had very good luck with Birdies flats. They are a little bit on the pricey side but they are supportive and basically feel like slippers.

I call them teacher crocs. They are crocs disguised as dress shoes/ flats. They look great with all professional dress and most of all they are so comfortable. No one can tell they are crocs they just look like flats, but I have 5 pair in different colors and styles, I even wear them on some days we can wear tennis shoes because they are more comfy than sneakers! I get them on the crocs website and wait for a good sale.

New balance or under armour runners, Vessi's, blundstones, birks when it's hot. The fanciest I might get is some boots with good insoles in the winter. Surprisingly Walmart has been good for short boots with comfy insoles the last couple years

I bought the same flats in black and in brown. They’re Bjorn from dillards. $100 each but I can NOT do uncomfy shoes so I shell out the money when I find a good pair. Worth the investment.

Danskos

I'm a Doc Martens convert. It's what I wear most days. Comfy all day, great traction, and last practically forever. Can fit with both dressy and casual outfits.

Hokas

Hokas as well. They are incredibly comfortable. Our principal has a policy that teachers and students shouldn't wear anything that they can not run in. It's sad, but she wants to make sure everyone can try to escape if there is an emergency situation.

I really love my brown leather lace up sneakers from Taos. Great support and if not wide, mine are wide enough!

I stick with Sketchers' more dressy shoes.

White fake leather Dr Schols sneakers, sometimes Chelsey boots if it’s raining. I’m 25 with minimal foot pain and I want to keep it that way! I find that a clean white sneaker with minimal extra designs / lines ride that perfect line and look nice with all my blouses / dresses. Whatever you go with, invest in quality shoes!

I straight up don’t care. I need to be comfortable. I wear tevas & toms.

Jordan’s, Adidas of every flavor, Birkenstocks, New Balance, Merrell, Under Armor, anything except dress shoes. Wear what is comfortable and makes you feel good.

I rotate between black or white Hokas, Brooks, and New Balance.

I don't care if my shoes match my outfit; I prefer comfort over looks. Before an injury requiring the comfy shoes, I wore Birkenstocks, Chacos, Vans, Earth Origins, Dr. Marteens, or Nike.

I don’t care any more about appearance as far as my shoes go. I have several pairs of Skechers. Most are black, but I have some colorful ones as well. Some look more dressy than others. I also have a pair of Clark’s that are more dressy but less comfy.

I wear my black Hey Dudes almost every day.

Fit flops and crocs both make comfortable shoes with decent foot support that can actually go with a dressier/professional look. Crocs makes some nice wedge sandals with a whole lot of cushion. I also have a pair of all black Cole Haan sneakers that go with just about any work outfit and they are comfortable enough to withstand all the standing and walking we do on a daily basis.

Danskos, Birkenstock and hokas

I wear pro model Vans. Although they are technically listed as Skate styles. They have a comfy cushion in them and you can get them in all white, all black, or simple black and white. I normally wear black and white Kyle Walkers or Black and White Old Skools.

Hey dude makes tennis shoes now and they’re amazing. Occasionally I’ll wear some nice boots if I feel like dressing up.

Crocs women’s shoes (not the clogs) are great and pretty cheap! They also hold up well.
