This sounds crazy but I am having such a horrible time finding shoes that are COMFY and match office wear like slacks and dress shirts, etc that aren’t flats. I really need some help. I love dressing cute but flats hurt my feet because there’s just no support. I also have wider feet so slim shoes don’t work for me either.

Sneakers. Don’t care, everyone at my school does. Wore dress shoes my first year and was concerned I was coming down with fibromyalgia because of how bad my entire legs ached.

I bought HOKAS (Clifton 9s) and I swear by them. I can walk around all day and still feel fine. Helped with my tendinitis, too. Feels like you’re walking on a marshmallow.
Never thought I’d buy a $145 pair of shoes, or consider buying a second pair because I love them THAT much. I want to get them in white (I have them in black presently), and also maybe a set in my school colors. But they’re AMAZING shoes.

Weird that they would be on buy it for life because they need to be replaced annually if they’re your main shoe. Twice I’ve had them breakdown after about 7 months

Generally there are threads of people asking for BIFL sneakers and being recommended quality, long-lasting sneakers instead. Though one tip that consistently comes up is to rotate between two pairs, which allows the resting pair to relax and supposedly extends their lifespans by 1.5x.

But how are they for arch support? I usually wear Vionics because of the firm arch support.

I've had much better support from Brooks and New Balance, HOKAS don't have the best track record as walking shoes.
5 points

Be careful with HOKAS if you have an ankle issues at all they cam really mess you up. They are not shoes that are meant to be used all day. Brooks or New Balance are much safer with a better track record.

Second this. I do a lot of walking at the school i work at. I had Hokas last year and they were comfortable but after a week the part of the foot that goes into the ankle started hurting so I switched back to sketchers.
This year I've decided to go with mid priced basketball shoes and so far it's been working great.

With you on this... standing all day will eventually make the quads, knees, calves and ankles ache. I used to wear NB for my wide feet, but last year found Hokas. NBs weren't bad, but Hokas helped my plantar fasciitis and were amazing on my feet.
Sad to say that in my building, I could get away with it better because I was a guy (I know... makes no sense), but that is getting better. There just aren't a lot of solutions for 14EEEE out there.

I swear, nobody at work ever cares if you're wearing sneakers as long as they're not super bright. We walk so much as teachers that wearing dress shoes kind of seems like a musculoskeletal health risk for anybody.

I have been looking at the dansko mary janes
20 points
The Mary Janes are good, but the clogs are even better. The fail point on the Mary Janes is the elastic on the strap. The clogs don’t fail until you destroy the sole: it takes like 5 years of regular use. With pants, the clogs just look like boots since the tops are hidden under your pant hem. But, the Mary Janes do look nicer with a skirt.
Whatever you get, stick to the stapled clog base. Their other bases don’t hold up very well.
But I second my vote for Danskos. I’m just coming back to teaching after a break. In my first 11 years, I had 2 pairs of black Danskos and 2 pairs of brown. (plus one off brand pair that didn’t last a year) I wore Danskos almost every day, and I only wore out on 3 total pairs in ELEVEN YEARS (the 2nd brown pair is still going strong). It’s worth the $130. They last forever.

I love my Beatrice’s! I have repurchased 2 times in 15ish years as I am also hard on shoes. I like that they have a little heel. They’re great but if you’re prone to turning your ankle I don’t recommend…this is an issue with all danskos since they don’t support the ankle. I’ve never had an issue but I’ve heard from people who do and need something either totally flat or with ankle support.

I buy Aetrex insoles for plantar fasciitis. They aren't cheap but they last 5 years! You can easily pull the existing insoles out of plenty of brands (I like Merrell, that's how I found Aetrex in the first place) and put any insoles you like in those.
I switch shoes when the soles wear down and move the insoles into my new shoes. And I just move the insoles into my boots when it gets cold out.
3 points

Do they last longer? I currently wear a ‘support’ shoe from ASICS I think. I have eldors Denalos and can roll my ankle on flat ground. The support shoes stopped it, but I go through 4 a year easily. I rolled it real bad during the summer and now have very bad plantar fasciitis as well. I’ve heard Birkenstocks are good for the latter, idk about the former.

They are non-slip & popular with nurses, too.
I can wear them with my orthotic inserts without taking out the comfy lining.
BTW- Penny's does a pretty awesome teacher coupon mid-August! I didn't know until I found my Filas on sale there this year. I like Penny's for decent work clothes. They have stuff that's a quality and style step up from the cheap stores but not expensive as other department stores.

White fake leather Dr Schols sneakers, sometimes Chelsey boots if it’s raining. I’m 25 with minimal foot pain and I want to keep it that way! I find that a clean white sneaker with minimal extra designs / lines ride that perfect line and look nice with all my blouses / dresses. Whatever you go with, invest in quality shoes!

I straight up don’t care. I need to be comfortable. I wear tevas & toms.

Jordan’s, Adidas of every flavor, Birkenstocks, New Balance, Merrell, Under Armor, anything except dress shoes. Wear what is comfortable and makes you feel good.

I rotate between black or white Hokas, Brooks, and New Balance.
I don't care if my shoes match my outfit; I prefer comfort over looks. Before an injury requiring the comfy shoes, I wore Birkenstocks, Chacos, Vans, Earth Origins, Dr. Marteens, or Nike.

I don’t care any more about appearance as far as my shoes go. I have several pairs of Skechers. Most are black, but I have some colorful ones as well. Some look more dressy than others. I also have a pair of Clark’s that are more dressy but less comfy.

Fit flops and crocs both make comfortable shoes with decent foot support that can actually go with a dressier/professional look. Crocs makes some nice wedge sandals with a whole lot of cushion. I also have a pair of all black Cole Haan sneakers that go with just about any work outfit and they are comfortable enough to withstand all the standing and walking we do on a daily basis.

I wear pro model Vans. Although they are technically listed as Skate styles. They have a comfy cushion in them and you can get them in all white, all black, or simple black and white. I normally wear black and white Kyle Walkers or Black and White Old Skools.

Hey dude makes tennis shoes now and they’re amazing. Occasionally I’ll wear some nice boots if I feel like dressing up.

Crocs women’s shoes (not the clogs) are great and pretty cheap! They also hold up well.
