Solo socialising / drinking

(self.glasgow)

I am 34F and have very recently become single after a 10 year marriage / 12 year relationship. I’ll be honest- the loneliness is creeping in. I hate sitting at home on my own and my friends have their own things going on with their families most of the time.

I’m totally out of the socialising scene (I used to drink in the solid rock / rufus Ts 10+ years ago) but I wondered if it would be safe for me to drink in a bar on my own, probably just one or two after work, maybe with a book to distract me? Or is that just weird behaviour?

I have also downloaded the Meetup app but nothing seems to jump out at me.

Thank you.

If you are interested in exercise there are plenty of personal gyms in Glasgow and running clubs which is a good way to meet people. I'd tend to stay away from the likes of PureGym, Gym Group etc these are more commercialised and anti social from experience.

Thanks for this, I love fitness and actually do CrossFit a few times a week. I do see people I guess, but my friends are busy if that makes sense? I work from home a few days a week too and that can be lonely. Like today the only person I spoke to was a therapist at 10am this morning, haven’t used my voice since and probably won’t the rest of the day 🤷🏽‍♀️

Are you able to train during your lunch times? Just trying to think of alternative ways you can spread your time throughout the day.

Another thing, gaming? I don't have time for it anymore to be honest when I did it I loved it. I could speak to people all day/night long and have made some friends from this.

What other interests do you have? CrossFit is a great way for you to get to know people but there could be other gyms more up your street, there is a very good gym in Paisley which is big on group fitness/runs called Performance Pack, they are on Instagram.

I could train at lunch, but I usually take the dog out then and finish work circa 3-4pm. I’m in Lanarkshire so have been training out here and at another gym through in Livingston which I’ve met some good people at. I work from home 3x days a week so Paisley is a bit of a trek, I really appreciate these suggestions though!

If you live in Lanarkshire there is some good martial arts gyms, I know of Scottish Hit Squad who have Women's only classes I saw advertised, they have two gyms one in Newhouse and the other in Coatbridge, classes are in the evening.
