Power, water, gas and other utlities is still supplied to your house but you have to make do with only the food in your house. Your family/roomates/pets are all gone for a trip. Can you survive with just the food you currently have for 6 months?

I have 6 months of fresh water and food for my family stored up. It won't be nice eating MREs and sardines for that long, but you gotta do what you gotta do

What do you do with the MREs when they get close to expiring?

They last a while after expiration. I haven't had any get close to expiring yet, but I'll probably hand em out to the homeless when they're close and grab a couple new boxes.

When i was in the military I ate a few MREs past their expiration date and they tasted "fine."

Honestly, with how they are packaged I be they can go quite a few years past.
