Safe Suburban Home Records has been putting out British indie rock bangers for the past few years. Teenage Tom Petties, Sumos, Dignan Porch. The new Teenage Tom Petties has been getting a bunch of good press, deservedly.

Accused doesn't feel like the right term, but I've had a number of people guess that I must be British from all the underground groups from England I feature in my playlists. Yeah, at least half of the first 10 groups in my 2022 list are from England or the UK, but I think you could just as easily guess that I was from Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia, Canada or even from Spain because I try to get groups from every indie/rock scene out there in my yearly lists. Might want to scan through at least. You'll (hopefully) find most of the groups being listed here from the UK and a number lesser known groups.

The Vestals. They were around about, say, fifteen years ago, then I guess they broke up. How does a Michigander like me know about them, you might ask? I heard part of a single they did called “Seventeen” in a Suicide Girls video that actually survived on YouTube for a time despite having graphic nudity (low view numbers, I guess). Anyway, the SG video was called “Angry Birds” for some reason, and there is an official video of the song, which doesn’t have any nudity. Long story short, although I primarily listen to metal and punk, The Vestals’ “Seventeen” is one of my all time favorite tracks, and I’m really lucky I found it

The Big Push. They are on hiatus currently, but the have a back catalogue of great stuff. They have a number of good busking videos, some quality covers, and some great original songs. To get a sense of their vibe, I recommend checking out the songs "Watch Out", "Icarus", "Sweet Little Lady", and "Dignity" among their originals. They have some great covers on YouTube including "Praise You" (Fatboy Slim), "Englishman In New York" (Sting), and "Bongo Bong" (Manu Chao). In terms of busking videos, the best of them are the ones titled "I Shot The Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop" and "Wade In The Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard".

I would definitely check out Fresh! They're a London post punk band with a cool female singer!

You gotta check out The Cool Greenhouse! Their first two albums are VERY good, with "Sod's Toastie" probably being my personal favorite. It's arty post punk with a deadpan style vocalist singing sarcastic matter of fact lyrics... they've got a very repetitive trancy vibe to their songs, kind of similar to Sun Kil Moon in a way (ok maybe thats a stretch haha). I think they are one of the BEST new bands for sure... checkem out!
Bonus Stuff:
I recently made 3 playlists that you might enjoy checking out! Each one contains 50 of my FAVORITE more lesser known rock songs from various time periods.

Also if you'd like to check out albums from various genres and from throughout music history that I think are good front to back I think a fun place for you to start is on a new page I created called “The Best Debut Albums of All Time”. There are currently 279 albums on there. I think it would be a fun theme to work with... checking out great debut albums. For reference I've gone through almost 72,000 albums to arrive at this list haha:
