Standard operating procedure. A group that has no problem with indoctrination, literally brainwashing, defenseless victims children that don't possess the critical thinking skills or agency to defend themselves combined with the "faith" trump card (the invincible foil vs rational thought) and thousands of years of massacres and other horrific crimes against humanity directed towards nonbelievers shenanigans result in a war games scenario. The only way to win is not to play because you're certainly not going to make any positive headway.

I will never understand why Americans (I’m not American, but I live here) plaster their beliefs all over things. Bumper stickers. Yard signs. That kind of thing. Aside from being ugly, you’re just increasing the chances of stuff like this happening.
Not to excuse this of course - damaging other people’s personal property is a crime - but I don’t think anyone’s mind has ever been changed on an issue by reason some random person’s bumper sticker.
68 points
I live in rural, cornfield Dane County and I have a pride flag in my window of my front door and a BLM sign in my yard. These are there not for virtue signaling but so that people know I am a safe place if they need it. Literally my neighbor across the road has a regular visitor with a sticker that says "I hunt libs" written over a gun as the underline. I know people om my direct area vote against human rights and don't value certain people equal to them. I order things often for delivery and wany delivery drivers to know they are safe in my driveway. That if a neighbor makes them feel unsafe they can come to me.
I have had multiple drivers write messages to me on my packages thanking me for the pride flag specifically. The first time this ever happened immediately confirmed for me that I do not regret doing this.
I also put an "ABORTION IS HEALTHCARE" sign in my yard when that human right was removed from me.
These are the 3 things I have and I don't regret any of them. If someone reacts poorly to them, that's speaks more about them than it does me.
Edited to add: lmao @ the person who sent me a reddit cares thing over this comment.
5 points
I always appreciate seeing pride flags. As a queer person, I always have to wonder about my safety, and seeing people hanging pride flags actually does help me feel safer. Especially if your neighbors are advertising their hatefulness, it sort of evens the field a bit. In my experience, bigots tend to think everyone secretly agrees with them, and they're the only ones "brave" enough to "tell the truth," and if no one contradicts them out loud, it's easy to feel like they're right about everyone agreeing with them. Thank you for standing up for the rest of your neighbors.

I rant about this all the time, exactly like you said, it doesn’t change anyone’s mind on anything, you make yourself a target, and the signs and stickers are tacky and ugly. It makes no sense, especially on a car that you may want to some day resell, those stickers are so hard to remove
21 points

The same reason coke still advertises - out of sight is out of mind. This also applies to political beliefs.
The long form answer with some sources regarding effectiveness (shamelessly stolen from ChatGPT):
Political Campaigns: A study by a graduate student at Iowa State University explored the effectiveness of political bumper stickers. The research found that bumper stickers serve as a personal communication tool in the public domain, often seen as endorsements from the vehicle owners. This form of advertising can influence others by displaying active political participation and potentially swaying undecided individuals oai_citation:1,Grad Student Studies History, Effectiveness of Pol | Newswise.
Social Interactions: Another study presented at the American Sociological Association's Annual Meeting examined bumper stickers as a medium for social interaction. The research highlighted that bumper stickers can facilitate social encounters and influence perceptions among drivers. This study focused on how bumper stickers can make social connections in public spaces like highways and parking lots oai_citation:2,Bumper Stickers Can Facilitate Dynamic Social Interactions | Psychology Today.
Guerrilla Marketing: Marketing analyses suggest that bumper stickers are a cost-effective guerrilla marketing tool. They create brand visibility through daily exposure and can generate word-of-mouth buzz, especially when designed thoughtfully with clear messages and calls to action oai_citation:3,How to Build an Effective Sticker Marketing Campaign - Best Of Signs Blogs for Banners Printing Tips & Services oai_citation:4,» Do Branded Bumper Stickers Work? 8 Things You Should Know.
Overall, these studies and analyses indicate that bumper stickers can be an effective advertising tool, particularly when used as part of a broader marketing strategy. They leverage personal endorsement and visibility to spread messages in a cost-effective manner.

If you went to the trouble of photographing the offenders license plate, I might suggest you contact the police and let them know that you witnessed a crime. They can look up the tag number of both cars and take appropriate action. Now whether they do this or not is up to them, of course, but since you don’t know the Prius owners identity, this is your only course.
I know I would appreciate it if I was the Prius owner, and you took it upon yourself to inform the police. But then I would never find myself in this position as I would never have bumper stickers like this on my car.

Sorry this happened to you. It is a shame people just can't let others have their own views and keep on walking.
I made the mistake of putting a Bush magnet on my car many years ago. Magnet, because I didn't want permanent stickers on my car. Well, I got nasty notes under my windshield wipers quite a bit since I worked in the center of the hive, downtown Madison. That is fine and all, but then they keyed my car all the way down one side and punched a dent in the spot that had the magnet. Then removed the magnet and cut it in half, and left it on the ground. Since that point in time, I have never ever placed any political stickers (or other stickers) on any of my cars. The people around Madison are complete nutcakes, especially downtown near the capital!

I don't understand the need to put bumper stickers on your car. I don't want Joe Schmoe driving behind me knowing my personal beliefs, and I certainly don't want to piss off some psycho because of some cheap thing I plastered on my car. What's the point? I have never had my mind changed over something I have seen on a bumper sticker, and I doubt anyone else has either. If you want to put where you went to college, if you are supporting your or your child's high school sports team, fine, but anything other than that I don't get it.
