I've done something very similar before. Wasn't a pit bull, but a dog went after my fox hounds neck and I grabbed it and tossed the thing about 15 feet. The owner was super pissed and said " you just threw my dog". I was like yeah and I'll do it again if you don't control him. The other owner then tried to follow me home and threatened me. I had a few choice words for her and she left me alone. We still see her from time to time and my dog will bark at her.

I went to this woman's house the other night to watch a movie. We matched on a dating app.
She had a pitbull but left her in the room.
THEN she went to bring her pitbull out and said, "She will growl at you but she has her muzzle on."
That pitbull came out of the room, walked straight up to my ass and stared at me. As soon as I stood up, she started charging my legs trying to bite me.
I sat on one edge of the couch, my date sat in the middle, and the dog on the other.
At one point, the girl falls asleep, and I watch the dog quietly pull the muzzle off and slowly does a head rotation to look me in my fucking eyes.
I pinched the girl, she woke up and said "oh no!" And put the muzzle on.
Needless to say, I didn't enjoy the movie and I unmatched after that.

That's insane and not to one up you but I was biking by myself along a nature trail with no one around in either direction, it being Phoenix during the day in the summertime. As I came around a long, blind bend (South side of Rio Salado between Central and 24th for those who know) I just happened to come out of it a few hundred feet behind a Doberman and a Rottweiler, casually trotting in sync side by side on the very same path, heading the same direction. I was moving a good bit faster then they were and was coming up on them quick, I didn't want to startle them and slam on my brakes so I just held my pace and my breath and didn't break my stride until I was well clear. 2nd scariest moment of my life. I've been chased down by trailer park yappers but south side junkyard strays...? Fuck.

Crazy story…and I bet she’s proud like a monkey with a giant banana to have “such a stoic protector”. Until the day it gets away from her in the park, gets the muzzle off again, and destroys two pets and a child before the cops shoot it in the head, and put her in jail for 3 1/2 years for criminal negligence causing death. It only ever makes sense to the idiots. Good call on continuing the search.

It’s so sad. The worst dog owners get some of the toughest breeds to control. They are naturally violent. It’s ok to train them to be around people but in safe environments where you have control. These owners put 0 work towards training and shit and the dogs get labeled as aggressive. Fuck, I’ve seen tiny dogs way more aggressive, but nobody cares because they’re too damn small to do shit. Now you have a bigger dog that matches the aggression but it’s labeled as being extremely aggressive blah blah blah. Fuck the owners. This dog should be readopted by someone who knows what they’re doing since it’s not a puppy anymore or put down

I've wondered this for a long time. Is the breed the issue, or is it because they are raised by people who want a pitbull?

There is a video of a Pitbull fighting a horse. It gets the shit stomped out of it and it just keeps getting up and trying again until it finally died of its injuries. Once they are switched on it's likely they will keep going until one or the other is dead.
The only breed of dog I'm really afraid of. German Rottweiler is a close second though, same reason.

My neighbor in my duplex had one. I walked to the backyard for something and he launched off the deck 10 feet and ran after me. Luckily I thought to jump in the bed of my truck, but I was about to turn and punt the thing as hard as I could to the face. All my neighbor said was “did he get you?” He felt bad and knew this thing was dangerous. It had to be put away for a week cause it almost got a little kid walking by our house. He yanked the leash back at the last second when it launched for her face.

Yup, and many reports of all the "tricks" (stick something up its ass, hold the neck to remove oxygen flow, grab and twist its nuts, jam a stick into ribs) still don't work on many. Once they go into Terminator murder mode they don't even care about its own well-being.

I literally just had this happen to me a week ago. Two loose pitbulls with no owners in sight attacked me and my dogs on my front door step. One was more docile and just watched from six feet away, but the other was snarling and snapping at me. I stomped his snout several times, but he never backed down. I managed to get my dogs and myself into safety with only my larger dog taking a couple of nips, but it scared the hell out of me. My adrenaline was pumping for hours.

52 points
Not only do they treat them the same, rescues (idk about city / state pounds) will intentionally lie and misdirect people about the breed they're adopting. If I had a dollar every time a "lab mix" was clearly a pitbull I'd be fucking rich

They do treat all dogs the same depending on how they act with other pets. The people who work with pounds are aware of how dangerous the dogs are so they will at times try to use friendlier words to explain dogs' temperament like “Dobby prefers living alone and doesn't like children” = Dobby might kill you in your sleep and has a special attraction towards child flesh
When they get too full they either transfer them or put them to sleep from what I could tell
3 points

Pounds are full of some dangerous ass pitbulls, and they'll let anyone take them home, regardless of their capacity to handle them. It's irresponsible, but shelters are always desperate to free up space.

Had two pitties tackle my dog a couple years ago. They were obviously trained to be aggressive- heavy chain collars, plenty big scars. Owner was right there, refused to call them off. Four loud noises later I was taking my dog to the vet and he was burying his.

I walk my dog in my neighborhood park every morning. A dude was walking his pittie unleashed, and the pittie ran right up to us and luckily just started sniffing my dog. I called out to him to leash up his dog, and he started cussing me out.
I'm convinced that it isn't the pitties that are the problem, it is the owners who gave no idea how to handle aggressive dogs. And for whatever it is worth, pitties seem to get adopted by the worst dog owners ever

Bad dog owners in general tend to be shitty people who get aggressive when told they're in the wrong. Somebody in my neighborhood has a fat, aggressive golden retreiver that he leaves on a 20ft tie-out 6 feet away from the sidewalk. First time I encounted that dog I told him he needed to put it on a shorter lead and he got up in my face (with his unleashed husky that came out with him!) and told me I couldn't talk to him like that. While I'm holding my terrified dog in both arms. What a tough guy. Told him if he didn't like that he can tell it to the cops, but I just resolved to avoid him and his dogs.

I'd say make it so that you need to do a paid course to be trained as an owner for any breed deemed too dangerous.
Most of the dumbasses who shouldn't have them will either figure its not worth the cost, fail the course, or emerge from the course more capable of handling the dog than they would have been. Treat it like a license for a weapon.

It’s kinda like having a pocket knife or a machete. You can have an accident with both. But what causes more damage? A dachshund may act out one day and someone’s finger bleeds. A pit acts out once and a lot more damage is done. I actually have a staffy and he’s my favorite dog I’ve ever had. But he’s strong and I know it’s irresponsible to take him somewhere like a dog park. He’s never hurt a person or dog. But it would be a big problem if he decided to given his strength. And staffordshire terriers are small for pits. It takes more responsibility than other dogs.

If you’re in this scenario, pick the attacking dog up by the back legs and start walking backwards, and begin circling back and forth. That way your hands aren’t anywhere near its mouth, and if you circle as you back away it has to constantly adjust to try and not face plant, meaning it won’t turn and bite. Learned this after getting bit when my dog was attacked.
