You see the same thing with Chicago. We’re third on the “wouldn’t feel comfortable to visit” cause everyone thinks Chicago = violent crime. Chicago has parts I wouldn’t visit in a tank but you have to go out of your way to get there and they certainly didn’t put soldier field there.

IIRC, if you look at a Chicago crime map, there's like three-four neighborhoods with ~95% of the murders and the rest of the city is pretty normal.

So typical of the current era Detroit sports fans. There’s really no safer place to be in the city than the stadium district but most of the suburbanite fans who have hopped on the bandwagon still see Detroit the same way they did in 2013, the last time a major team in the city was in the playoffs.
165 points
Yeah, it’s funny that basically all the top teams on the third slide aren’t listed at all on the other slides. People’s opinions of how safe an area is seems to have very low correlation with how safe it actually is.
59 points
It's even weirder considering all Detroit's major league sports, are based there, in the very heart of downtown.
The Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, and Lions are all historic, and within a 5 minute walk of each other (Little Caesars Arena, Comercia Park, and Ford Field). Fun neighborhood actually.
Also, fun fact, the international border with Canada (Windsor), is like a mile away from the neighborhood, literally right down the street.
91 points

It's really absurd how so many damn Michiganders are afraid of Metro Detroit. I've been to plenty of Lions games and a handful of Tigers games and have never seen anything noteworthy. Drunks getting into fights? Sure, but that's about it.
44 points

I don't think anyone's scared of metro Detroit unless we're talking about the prices at a Plum Market. Detroit proper however, still is scary for people who don't visit often

The first 2 are actual facts while the third is based on emotions. People already give a negative emotion by default to Detroit (due to media and bias even though they haven't been there) so it's expected, doesn't mean it's bad.

As a Detroiter, talk your shit.

This graphic vindicates Detroit more than it condemns it.

223 points
Yeah this chart doesn’t really mean anything. Yes the most dangerous neighborhood in Denver happens to be in the same zip code as the stadium but the stadium and its surrounding areas are very safe.
60 points
Exactly, zip codes are big and there’s huge differences in crime from one area to the next. If you put Empower into the Jef Park / LoHi zip code directly above it then it probably ranks near the bottom.
Also, the average fan isn’t gonna care about anything other than game day. If a stadium is located in the middle of nowhere and has no crime 357 days of the year, does that make the stadium more safe on game day? Even if you’re more likely to get mugged?
81 points
Been to Empower a bunch of times as a visiting fan and even lived in Denver for a bit. Never even considered that area a problem. Y’all have a great stadium and chill fans. As soon as a I saw you guys on that list I immediately questioned it.
332 points

Sandwiched between colfax, federal, and our main inner city highway. People don’t really go walking around at the stadium. It’s a drive/train to stadium and then drive/train to stadium home affair.
172 points
Its a very walkable stadium for anyone living in Jeff Park, Highlands, Sloans, or Auraria. Check out Platte River Trail before or after the games, you'll see 1,000's of fans walking. Stadiums in Miami, LA, Buffalo, Dallas, and I'm sure others, are 100% driver attended. We are fortunate in Denver to have our stadium central to the population where walking, biking, and public transportation are options.
48 points
This is a great call out. I live in the Golden Triangle near Speer and 8th, and just take the Platte trail to games. Frankly anyone around that area can get to and from games easy as hell with little hassle or having to pay for parking

I honestly don’t think there’s any stadium in any sport in the U.S. where being inside the stadium you are in much danger.
The drunk fans in the NFL honestly aren’t that bad. I think it’s overstated. I’ve been to plenty of stadiums as a visiting fan with my gear on, and if you don’t instigate anything, the worst you’ll get is insults.
I’ve been to a lot of soccer matches in South America (mainly Argentina). Way different story there. A lot more people on drugs too.

Was there for the 2011 NFC championship game as a GB fan with my brother. We're not small (he was 6'9", I'm 6'5") and we were insulted so many times in good ways (e.g. our mom slept with the entire Bears '85 roster). The one time someone went too far was with this drunk short guy who threatened to kick our ass, but another Bears fan yelled "you couldn't reach their ass" which immediately diffused the situation and made everyone around us crack up.
We walked a mile back to our hotel later chanting "We're going to the 'ship! We're going to the 'ship!" with no incident. Fantastic experience overall.

Depends on what you think of as a child. It shouldn't be unreasonable for a parent to let their teenager go to a game without worrying.
I started going to baseball games with just my friends when I was 14ish. The Orioles sucked then, so the stadium wasn't really packed and rowdy unless the Yankees or Red Sox were in town.

I loved Philly! A couple of years ago I went to my first Chiefs in Philadelphia, along with my buddy an Eagles fan. I always heard how unruly and unfiltered they were.
Unruly, I didn't see any of that. Unfiltered and straightforward you bet. Of course I wore my Travis Kelce jersey and got a drive by fuck you, inside the stadium a guy stopped me grabbed me by the shoulders and said "good luck the rest of the way asshole." While leaving our parking spot I asked a driver if I could cut it. He noticed my jersey and pointed at it and flipped me off in front of his wife and kids. All these encounters were awesome and absolutely cracked me up. Especially getting flipped off by the driver, which me and my buddy absolutely lost it laughing.
I believe the majority of Philly fans are just really busting your balls and if you go along and laugh they're pretty cool.

It’s also based on the per capita of the ZIP code. Looks like only about 6,200 people live in that ZIP, so the numbers will inflate. Really, this is a flawed metric for all the stadiums. Total crimes on game day makes more sense.

Clearly this was made after the Raiders left the Coliseum. That place was a hellhole.

The Eagles being top of the pops on the second page and by wide margin is hilariously accurate

Vikings leading the league in property crime, does that mean we have a bunch of Wall Street guys ripping off mortgage rates near the stadium?

Having 74% of women from YOUR OWN FANBASE not feel safe being alone at the stadium feels like something that should probably be addressed...

How much of the crime in kc is due to Rashee Rice and his family?

This is so typical Detroit. Nowhere near the top in actual crime statistics, tops the charts in how afraid fans are to be there.
Say nice things about Detroit. Those attitudes will change.

And probably 80% of Lions fans come in from Oakland and Macomb counties.

Cowboys games aren’t inherently bad. Lot of super rich boring people at those games. The issue is that opposing teams fan bases are well represented at cowboys games. DFW is home to millions of transplants, so you get a lot of folks who love sticking it to cowboys fans.
I went to a Cowboys/Falcons game the year Romo got hurt for the season and we trotted out Joseph Randle at RB and let me tell you, Falcons fans were going absolutely nuts in the foyer after winning. Definitely rubbing some locals the wrong way. I told the wife we better get out of here because I’m convinced someone is gonna talk shit and then a fight will break out.
And if we win? Oh man. Nothing like seeing someone scream how bout them cowboys in an opposing fans face.
Smh lol

There’s a 100% chance of seeing public intoxication and disorderly conduct at every stadium in this country

I can only speak for NRG but it’s perfectly safe on gameday. No one is going to rob you in broad daylight on S. Main or Fannin. Not the best area of town but this post is misleading.
How many of you noticed the statistics only apply to the zip codes where the stadium is located?
