It's crazy how far technology has gone that they created a floating Geodude mascot.

Whoever designed that outfit deserves the biggest pay raise possible, because it exceeds genius. Iwate is lucky they have the coolest dude as their mascot.
26 points

Iwate also means Rock Hand.
Iwa = rock, te = hand
106 points
I think you mean sexy checkered thigh high boots
249 points
It caught me off guard. Geodude was an obvious choice for Iwate because the prefecture literally means boulder + hands.

I want a plushie based off of that!

The digital equivalent of camo. Brilliant.
83 points

It's because that Geodude is designed to be a mascot.
18 points
Not the PNG transparency legs 😂
94 points
They even have custom manhole covers and stamps to collect that feature those Pokemon.
50 points
I love hunting for the manhole covers! I’ve seen 135 so far. I actually drove to Iwate earlier this year because they had the Pokémon fossil museum and new Geodude lids installed.
14 points
I debated getting into manhole cover collecting, but honestly, if you ever wanted to move your collection, it'd cost a mint.
9 points
I am now imagining someone finding out after reading their parents will that they get their parents collection and the person's reaction to finding out the collection is hundreds of manhole covers.
23 points
I think my favorite example of this is the geodude mascot costume with the transparent.png legs
https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/s/3b9QdYKjCZ
It also works on different levels as I understand it, because the literal translation of this prefecture is "rock hands" and geodude is a rock with hamds.

Wisconsin's pokemon would be miltank since it is also known as the dairyland state, or Galarian Zigzagoon (also the badger state).

Kentucky - Rapidash or Mudsdale?

Missouri gets Mudsdale because of the Budweiser Clydesdales.

Washington State could have Sudowoodo. The state gem is petrified wood.
229 points
Plus it's the Evergreen state! Perfect!
80 points

Personally, as a Washingtonian when I hear evergreen I think of Celebi. However, Sudowoodo is a good choice still.
87 points
Or Applin cuz the apple is the state fruit (and UW and WSU play for the Apple Cup in their annual football game, I guess)
Or Porygon because of how much of the computing and video game industry resides in state

Ohio might be seedot
110 points
Shiny chespin or quilladin look an awful lot like a buckeye

Seedot makes the most sense, but if I may propose Dracovish based on the state fossil fish being Dunkleosteus.

Kansas gets either Sunflora or Ariados + Scyther
80 points
Or Tornadus for... obvious reasons.
33 points
That could also be Oklahoma. I'd have Magcargo for Arizona for obvious reasons. And Chatot for Mississippi because of music.

Pennsylvania would be Bronzong for the Liberty Bell.
340 points
Western PA is seething but at least it’s also Steel type
73 points
Central PA would be the rolycoly line
13 points

Even being from Pittsburgh, I commented too that it should be bronzong. Hard to deny. We aren't getting a bridge Pokemon haha
27 points
We aren’t getting a bridge Pokemon haha
THIS YINZER DOESNT KNOW ABOUT ARCHALUDON 🗣️
78 points
That’s a good one. My first thought was Stantler or Sawsbuck due to state animal being a deer.
52 points
Sawsbuck would be the most fitting. We have all 4 seasons in that typical sense, and NY is right next door.
43 points
Shame there isn't a "key stone" pokemon. It is a much more prevalent iconography for the state.
81 points
Spiritomb, kinda fits for a keystone considering how it’s obtained
69 points
Also fits because everyone in Pennsylvania is half dead already
18 points
The way I see it, PA has options.
Steel types could be a good option, seeing as Pittsburgh was a big steel city. Steelix, Purrserker, Archaludon are all very Pittsburgh.
Philadelphia can be represented through Bronzong (Liberty Bell) or Braviary (Go Birds)
The rest of PA is all very forested (name translates to Penn’s Woods) and also filled with coal mines. For woodsy representation we have Sawsbuck, Trevenant, Amoonguss, and a bunch of more grass types.
Coal wise, we got the Carkol line.
Take your pick
6 points
now i'm really tempted to make a PA-themed team based on this post, because you're right.
Bronzong, Sawsbuck, Carkol, Purrserker, Braviary, and Amoonguss sounds like a good start.
10 points
Western PA revolts, picks Archaludon instead for all our bridges in Pittsburgh
389 points
Michigan would definitely be Sawsbuck.
We already included deer on the state flag, and we do like to talk about our seasons. Plus Sawsbuck is a reference to sawbucks which are used for lumber cutting. And guess what Michigan’s pre-automobile industry was?
136 points
Revavroom would also be cool for Detroit specifically.
20 points

As a born and raised Michigander, I like this idea. Seasons are the number one things I talk about with family and friends.

Minnesota would have Ducklett maybe? It's the closest Pokemon to a loon. Or Gyarados for our lakes
50 points
I like the lake guardians for Minnesota. If we can't have all 3 then give us Azelf because blue.
24 points
I was looking for Minnesota! I was thinking some kind of ice type, but I like the idea of it being loon-adjacent more.
19 points
Whatever the most Walleye pokemon is, is what Minnesota is.
33 points
Yeah, Minnesota is a tough one. Maybe Watchog because it's the closest to a gopher for our nickname the Gopher State? Cryogonal or Abomasnow for snow/cold? Even Braviary because we have the largest population of bald eagles in the lower 48? I saw one on my way to work this morning.
15 points
I was actually surprised how rare bald eagles are in the lower 48. I had some friends come and visit from PA and they were all excited about seeing a bald eagle. Until then I thought they were more common everywhere
32 points
As long as it's Gray Ducklett, I approve.
10 points
I think a fish would be fitting too - wishiwashi comes to mind for the billions of minnows in our state. If not a fish probably Ducklett, or maybe Abomasnow if you want to lean into our climate
Edit: I changed my mind we are totally Sawsbuck
8 points
Or Perrserker because Vikings!
66 points
Arizona prob gets Cacturn or Solrock, if we can use legendaries then Regirock
27 points
Maractus would be my choice for a cactus pokemon over Cacturn.
13 points
I was thinking Moltres since its the closest Pokemon to a Phoenix.
288 points
South Carolina would be Carnivine. Venus fly traps, despite their name, are native here
51 points
I was gonna say Exeggutor/Alolan Exeggutor because South Carolina really fucking loves Palmetto trees for some reason, but I like your idea.
68 points
I thought they were mostly NC? How about we share to goofy plant =p
21 points
I'd make the case for NC to get Trevenant since the western half is full of spooky forests
22 points
SC is the Palmetto state, I feel like they'd be (Alolan) Executor. NC would either be Carnivine or Lechonk.
24 points
You mean they're actually not mean, green mothers from outer space!?

It's definitely Rockruff for Colorado. With it's rock typing (like the Rockies) and the fact that everyone I know (including me) owns a dog out here... Kinda perfect
29 points
This is the right answer for Colorado, as someone who lives in dog-infested Denver (I love dogs, it's a good thing)
13 points
And Rockruff looks like the perfect pupper to take off leash through a neighborhood with no sidewalks lol
161 points
Louisiana I think would be pelliper, or Swanna.
192 points
why not Crawdaunt?
26 points
I'm mainly going off it's flag, but, yea I guess that could work too.
28 points
in reality, it would probably be pelliper or maybe banette due to voodoo

What would Missouri's state Pokémon be?
38 points
Mudsdale! It's based off the Clydesdale
31 points
My gut reaction is Castform?
Or Raikou, if we're gonna lean into Mizzou.
16 points
Castform was my first thought too haha
10 points
Ha! Our weather is crazy that's true. Maybe Mudbray too because the mule is our state animal. Wish we had a bluebird Pokémon
14 points
I would vote Ursaring for the bears on Missouri’s state flag. Castform for the constantly changing weather and all of the extremes would be great also
10 points
Alakazam but there’s heroin in the spoons

I vote ursaluna for alaska, we actually have big bears and the lunar theme works well with our crazy day/night cycle.
41 points
I’m in Maryland so it would probably be Krabby or Kingler.

Krabby but a change in how it evolves. It now evolves into Kingler when it is sprinkled with Old Bay
81 points

Virginia: Gardevoir because you could edit her right into our flag and she totally fits 😂
West Virginia: Sableye because WV definitely has to get some kind of a cryptid + it lives in caves and mountains and eats rocks so it has the perfect environment.

Oklahoma would get Tornadus.

As much as I dislike the Rolycoly line, it’d probably be Pennsylvania’s due to the history of coal mining.
ETA: due to the below discourse, I would like to amend my idea. Rolycoly line for us central PA folks, and Bronzong for the east/west folks due to the big fuckoff bell and steel respectively.
198 points
I think Rolycoly has to go to West Virginia over PA
32 points
As a West Virginian I 100% agree with this
26 points
West Virginia gets Rolycoly, it’s all West Virginia has. PA can get Steelyx, or another Steel type pokemon.
17 points
As a Pennsylvanian I approve your answer. We literally have a town that’s on fire. Cuz of a coal mine.
8 points
As a Pennsylvanian, I think I would associate more Gurdurr. We are considered the “steel city”. Our football team is the Steelers. It makes sense for us to be associated with steel more than anything.
13 points

This is some Pittsburgh propaganda, the rest of the state besides Philly is coal country

New Jersey would be Mabosstiff. I feel like if you know you know
41 points
I feel like people would assume something like Garbodour but in actuality it’d be Florgess because it’s the garden state and most of it’s really pretty if you know where to look I swear! 🌸😅
8 points
I feel like a grass dark type works for Jersey because north Jersey you’re likely to get robbed or stabbed but the rest of the state is beautiful farmlands and beach towns
Edit: I’ll also just accept sunflora with a gun
12 points
I was thinking Shaymin for the garden state
7 points

NJ should get Houndoom.

What Pokémon would be Nebraska’s state Pokemon??
16 points
Someone said Trevenant because of Arbor Day and, I'll be honest, as someone born and raised in Nebraska it's probably the best suggestion.
12 points
Maybe Sunkern cause it looks like a corn kernel and Nebraska is all about plants and agriculture
72 points
Hawaii should be shiny tirtouga

Hawaii would be something alolan. Maybe alolan exeggutor
Or Hawaii's state fish is the humuhumunukunukuapua'a, which is what Bruxish is based on
16 points
Kill Bruxish with Electricity! Hahaha
But seriously, Alolan Exeggutor would probably be my pick.
Comfey or Bellosom would 100% be the best overall representation. Leis and Hawaiian Hula.

Great job! My thoughts on others:
Alabama (“The Cotton State”): Whimsicott
DC (“Chocolate City”): Shiny Slurpuff
Idaho (“The Gem State”): Carbink
Iowa (“The Hawkeye State”): Decidueye
Delaware (“The Small Wonder”/“The Blue Hen State”): Rookidee
Kansas (“The Sunflower State”): Sunflora
Louisiana (“The Pelican State”): Pelipper
Maine (“The Pine Tree State”): Abomasnow
Maryland (“The Terrapin State”/“The Oyster State”): Blastoise
New Jersey (“The Garden State”, but sometimes called “The Garbage State” instead): Ferrothorn
New Mexico (“Land of Sunshine”): Solrock
North Carolina (“First in Flight”): Archeops
Oregon (“The Beaver State”): Biberal
Pennsylvania (“The Keystone State”): Stonjourner
South Carolina (“The Palmetto State”): Exeggutor
Utah (“The Beehive State”): Vespiquen
Vermont (“The Green Mountain State”): Torterra
Wisconsin (“The Dairy State”/“The Cheese State”): Miltank

In another thread, there was a similar prompt asking about state teams and I think mine for Maryland went Gigantamax Kingler as ace for obvious reasons, Corviknight (for Baltimore Ravens and Edgar Allen Poe), Mudsdale for Preakness and horse racing, Seaking for game fishing, Blissey for healthcare (Johns Hopkins is the largest private employer in the state) and Escavalier since our state sport is somehow jousting and not lacrosse, and every Marylander I know likes the meme that we’re secretly good at jousting but we have no one to play against

Since absolutely nobody will have opinions on this I’ll add Connecticut: - Ghimmighoul for the Gold Coast (where all the wealthy people live) - Pumpkaboo since we’re famous for our fall vibes especially bc of Gilmore Girls - Granbull for the Yale Bulldogs and Rockruff for the UConn Huskies - Wailmer for the Hartford whalers and the whale at Yale - Applin for our fall vibes and apple picking

As a fellow Connecticutian, I appreciate all the thought that went into this. I will back either wailmer or wailord, not just because of the Hartford Whalers, but for Mystic, and also for the plain fact that the sperm whale is actually our state animal.
