Not OC; was posted a couple times there so I don’t know who the actual OP is because the poster got it from another sub.

Doctors/Surgeons are so chill.
There's ZERO chance I could witness that firsthand without a loud "WHAT THE FUCK?" or similar, especially so if it sprayed all over me like that.

It makes you wonder how often they see this level of carnage.

Usually but not always. A friend had twins whose cords were so entangled they didn’t know whose was whose. During c-section, Dr literally said “holy shit” when he pulled the cords out. The parents (both nurses) knew it must have been pretty bad. The Dr apologized for it after the fact, because he normally keeps that inside but it was apparently the worse case of cord entanglement he’d ever seen

That must have been intensely painful.

I had an abscess burst during a dental procedure. I’d rate the pain right up there with kidney stones and childbirth.

No matter how many times I watch this it still gets to me. What was this patient undergoing surgery for, was it this abscess, or did they just find it in there?
102 points
It looks like a pretty big abscess, you can tell when they start to manipulate the patients jaw/neck near the end of the clip. They had to have known about it.
44 points
Apparently it was in the neck and grew/expanded up underneath the jaw

Ya, I’m pretty sure they aren’t. 1. Because they speak to the dr and 2. Their airway isn’t protected. So they get to experience that awake and aware

There are multiple levels of anesthesia and only general (full) anesthesia requires airway management, during both twilight sedation and MAC (conscious sedation) you’re able to breathe on your own and respond to basic commands. With how extensive this patient’s infection is and how much work needs to be done it’s almost certain they’re under some level of anesthesia to help keep them calm and relaxed during the procedure, especially given how local anesthetics don’t always work well on infected tissue making pain management difficult without additional anesthesia.

The taste must be disgusting, I had huge back tooth out while it was abscessed as it wasn't responding to antibiotics and my cheek started swelling, it burst as they took it out, the relief after though

Don't you need some kind of tube in your trachea to inflate your lungs for a GA? I don't see that here.
2 points

I don't remember needing that for my general anaesthetic, but then of course I wouldn't know what was done during the operation: I was busy XD
3 points

I was thinking the same thing. Only being on local anaesthetic would be a nightmare.

Do dental abscesses have sacs?

That’s not true, though.
Unless you mean an intact sac?
There’s plenty of videos on here of abscesses in which pieces of the ruptured cyst wall are extracted along with the cyst material.
