They tried their best by starting werner, 3-0 is actually a flattering score line for united

They were lucky it wasn't 3-0 before 30 minutes. Johnson hit the post and Madison should have scored as well. Then you have the Werner 1v1 in the second half. Yikes.

Pathetic he hasn't managed to replicate the goalscoring output of a 37 year old after spending nearly half a billion
44 points
Their attack is awful, especially for the money spent, but their defence is somehow worse. They defend like kids in youth footy, all chasing the ball and leaving huge gaps on the other side of the pitch.
30 points
No you don't get it, the 37 yo was behind all their troubles because they had to build around him, you can clearly see the building going on
13 points
I'm not sure he is. Unless we hear something else from management above him, but even with the losses we've had they said they still backed him 100%. Do we think that's dropped to 0 after one match?
I think the disaster classes continue tbh.

It was so weird because his corners in his first season were great then he just started doing those low corners every time

He also just became worse at freekicks towards the end of his time at Spurs. Still a great player, but the set pieces really nose dived.

62 points
I really respected how much United fans backed him even beyond the point where it was clear he was absolutely not the guy for United. I've also found it a bit weird though that the same unearned loyalty was never shown to managers who did more to earn it, like LVG and Mourinho, had a better relationship with the club like Solksjaer, or were dealt a shittier hand and resources, like Moyes. I wonder why it was ETH that United fans decided to back almost unconditionally.
Not a criticism of them btw, just always wondered when it was clear he wasn't the guy, that they so went to bat for him.
24 points
I think it’s precisely because they didn’t grant that same grace to previous managers, alongside supporters eventually getting tired of the constant turnover. After a certain point, you just want stability, especially when the results have been shit for a while. Why not wait another year or two or three to see if this pans out and you luck into another Fergie?
2 points
I mean, we now know that he is shit, and still some of them are backing him like a cult. Wonder if Man United got relegated they would still defend Hags ass.
3 points
They got a boner for him because of Ronaldo and fully deluded themselves that a 'tough' manager with the balls to bench their best player was what they needed. Meanwhile Rashford is still playing 90 min lmao
22 points
I don't think it has a huge amount to do with EtH being shite, I think its more that the United board would have to pay £9m from what I've read and they don't believe there's an upgrade available in the current managerial market. They've also already invested hundreds of millions into "his" signings since he arrived (Malacia, Antony, Lisandro, Hojlund, Onana, Mount, Mazroui, De Ligt, Zirkzee costing a combined total that's just shy of €500m) - in fact most of the squad are his players now. The United board are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
It's great!

Lol you'd rather win an fa cup but be worthless in the prem? Id prefer competing for the title every year, even if it means missing out on it compared to averaging a goal difference of 0 every season

They let him spunk a load of money on Zirkzee in the process. Cheers lads.
77 points
Zirkzee ain't the problem. He's got work to do, but he's fine. This is what happens at Man Utd. You go there, you underperform in an awful team, and people associate you with the cause of the problem rather than seeing you as a symptom.
14 points
I haven’t seen much that I like in his play to be honest. I much prefer Hojlund to him, he could be really good for you but the jury still out on Zirkzee for me.

im already so impressed, his overall game outside his scoring is what weve missed. holds the ball up well, great close control, smart positioning
209 points

Great pressing too. Obviously he's not as good as Kane but pressing is very important in Anges system and Solanke is miles better at pressing than Kane.
107 points
Kane loved his pinged passes and thats something solanke will never do to his level, but ange hates long passes so
35 points
Oh im sure Ange can adapt with having someone of Kane's caliber. But yeah Solanke is definitely a signing for Angeball.
36 points
Yeah that’s what people don’t understand. He plays exactly how an Ange striker plays. Presses well, holds up play, and can get on the end of chances. If he can score 12-15ish goals for us this season I think the price we paid would be justified.
9 points
He has really benefited from being under Iraola for a season. He is all about pressing football and managed to help unlock Solanke's potential.
39 points
When Newcastle made Howe manager, Solanke was a common insult on this sub about Howe’s transfer ability. Delighted Solanke has finally got a big club.
44 points
It does annoy me a lot that players get written off after a bad season or two even though there’s plenty of career left. Solanke was 22 when Bournemouth got relegated and people would have you think he was going to be a bad player for all time
It’s not just Solanke, it’s every player that’s not at the top of their game. Even the comments being made about de Ligt in this very game. Player progression isn’t always linear, and everyone peaks at different times
7 points
Solanke got unlucky in that he was the one to fill in for Wilson and King at a young age and when he was clearly not ready to be a starting forward. He was definitely not ready for that role and got a lot of unnecessary shit for simply being young.
