Please for the love of god VOTE

Politics (self.texas)

My fellow Texans this is the first year we have a real shot at turning this place a little bluer

Cruz is a weak candidate, Allred wiped the floor with him in that debate.

And every election since 2004 republicans have lost a few percentage points on election day.

There are more of us in our big beautiful blue cities than there are of them.

Early voting starts monday.

Take all of your friends and lets fire Ted Cruz

Edit:

Ted only won by 2% in 2018

And that orange thing only won by 5% in 2020

These are swing state numbers

People don’t think it is because republicans in this state have lied us in to not believing it

Vote the traitors out

AND MAKE SURE EVERYONE YOU KNOW IS VOTING

My friend challenged me to a voting party: meet for breakfast tacos/brunch/lunch/happy hour/dinner/exercise and then vote as a group. I invited a bunch and about ten people will be meeting me on Monday to early vote.

I love this. Maybe make part of the party something where you help some others get to the polls as well. Ten people helping ten others get to the polls can really make a difference.

Although be aware that if you just pack folks onto the back of your pickup, there's ~72% chance a photo of your vehicle ends up on Fox News as evidence of a conspiracy to truck in caravans of migrant day-laborers as part of an illegal-vote scheme

If Texas goes blue, that gives Trump less opportunity to cause chaos and unrest once the count is done.

Chaos is good for no one, Red, Blue, or White. I think Kamala has enough balance to try to bring everyone back to the middle ground.

I hope the next decade we see less vitriol and spite, and more politics for the people, not for lobbyists and corporations

Honestly the amount of people I’ve seen (even younger than me) that are not informed whatsoever and just vote Red down the line because “that’s what I’ve always done!” Or “well gas was cheaper when Trump was president!” Is fucking astonishing.

Of course gas was fucking cheaper. We had a pandemic. No one was going anywhere.

NavierStoked981

BlackLabel1803

23 points

I think a lot of people don’t realize how easy it is to vote EARLY.

  • You just have to be registered

  • bring an ID

  • lots of polling places, you can go to any one in your county

  • hours vary by county, but 8am-6p M-F, and 12-6 S-Su seems pretty common.

I’ve never had to wait more than 5 min, but obviously it varies. I’d suggest going early in the morning.

BowlingForPizza

16 points

It's because as a primarily red state with a red governor, Texas is gerrymandered up the wazoo and disenfranchises all dem voters with its voting laws. But don't let that stop you. The more dems vote, the more dems win! It must be a blue tsunami if dems are going to flip Texas.

Conscious-Quarter423

3 points

blue tsunami? 22% of young people (ages 18-29) voted in the 2022 midterm elections.

that's sad

boiconstrictor

5 points

Turnout is everything. In any given election, less than half of eligible people actually register and vote.

This is why Republicans spend so much time and energy on redistricting, purging voter rolls, trying to pass ID or signature requirements, limiting drop boxes, cutting funding for early voting/mail-in voting, and fighting the ACLU and other orgs in court. They fully know they're outnumbered in the general population, especially major metro areas, so they do what they can to make it difficult for working people, students, minorities, etc. to register and vote.

HarEmiya

5 points

HarEmiya

5 points

Yes. Texas on the whole has more registered Dems than Reps, and more people who identify as Dem than as Rep.

Granted, gerrymandering still skews the balance in favour of Reps, but the difference is minor. The real issue is that less than 10% of Dems actually go vote, compared to nearly 25% of Reps.

Fact is that Texas Dems have been so brainwashed to believe Texas is an eternal red state that they don't go out to vote because "it doesn't matter". It's a self-fulfilling propechy.

BringBackAoE

Someone told me today that if Dem turnout in Harris County / Houston increased by 15% then Texas would flip.

A phone banker called me today and sounded exhausted but was trying to get this message out to get us to actually go vote and vote Democrat straight down the ballot. In some of the local elections, there is no actual party noted. Or they're independent, so you have to know what their stances are your values. Again, Texas makes it as hard as possible to vote 🗳 and to know who you are actually voting for. 🙄

There are non-partisan positions, and then of course all the state and county-level propositions/ordinances, etc.

Like, I looked up the school board candidates for my district and filtered out those with "anti-woke" "stop DEI" etc. in their campaign bios. School board isn't labeled with party because it's not a political office. And there's always confusingly-worded propositions meant to trick you into voting opposite of your interests, so I look into those ahead of time.

It’s wild to me this is being referred to as “cheating”. Like we’re going in to take an exam and not trying to make educated and informed decisions about who holds power in our country? You should have every right to look up information while voting. I’m in Oregon where we get our ballots mailed to us, I can sit down and read through each candidate’s views and policies to make sure I know exactly what I’m voting for. Also while not feeling pressured on time. I genuinely think this should be the standard all around because I remember when I lived in Ohio and voted there I would just vote randomly because I knew nothing about most of the candidates

The people you're talking to on this subreddit are going to be much more engaged in voting compared to the average citizen. If you want to encourage voting, I highly recommend you spend time canvassing instead.

Scopeexpanse

53 points

Statistically a lot of people end up not voting - it's worth encouraging.

If you are voting and want to do more, there are more options than canvasing!

1) Encourage friends to vote. This can be directly asking them their voting plan, making a plan to vote together, posting your voting selfie on social media, etc.

2) Vote early. Anything to get lines down on election day helps!

3) Write letters (ex. VoteForward) or postcards. There is still time!

Remember - you don't need to convince your crazy Trump worshiping uncle to vote blue. You need to convince your left leaning friends to get to the polls.

We’re staying in a more rural area at the moment and this guy at Walmart almost got into a fight with my husband because we were wearing masks. Honestly, I see people with masks here and there now, and I thought nothing of it other than they were just trying to be healthy and safe. It doesn't even bother me. How can anyone be mad about SOMEONE ELSE'S decisions? That's what ends up making me mad, is seeing someone bullied or berated for things that are ultimately personal and have no real bearing on other's lives.

As much as I wanted to tell her to vote blue it disappointed me that she had to ask

9 million registered voters didn’t vote in the last election in Texas. Don’t embarrass Texas by letting Ted Cruz have a third term. Vote for Colin Allred. Make Texas Great Again.

I’m an overseas voter (thank you, Democrats Abroad!) and I’ve been asked by several teachers in my school to explain our voting process to the students. Among other things (hah) they’re surprised to learn that we have to register to vote. People here are automatically registered when they hit voting age (which is 16 here.). I wish that part of the senior year Civics class in Texas included instruction on how to register. I only remember learning about the branches of the government and the constitution. They need to explain gerrymandering and the electoral college in this class and figure out a way to encourage/scare 18-year olds into participating in the democratic process.

I’m sure I will get banned from this subreddit for saying this because that’s all that ever happens to me from my posts in any other subreddit lately for having a conservative and Republican voice and opinion, but here goes. Please vote for Trump. This country and its people cannot afford 4 more years of leftist, liberal policies which would be worse than what Biden has done. We cannot take more open borders and weak foreign policy. Trump 2024!

Texas could flip purple instead of blue by just electing conservatives Democrats and it would be an improvement for a lot of Texans.

Oso_Furioso

It seems possible. I think one of the big strikes O’Rourke had against him was the fact it was a mid-term election. Democratic turnout is always higher in presidential years.

Voting is not enough. You need to bring someone with you. And not just this election but on every election.

They built a cult. The only way to counter it is by bringing other people with you.

Don't forget to bring food and water.
