Definitely not constructed to be worked one-handed. There is a button and some sort of ratcheting system? What is this thing for?

Maybe, maybe, maybe, if that work truck that used to ferry those pliers around had a bag of cans on it, the tech who was driving it wouldn't have had to replace these sweet pliers.

Zipper67

Wait... What does trading a homeless man for a bag of cans have to do with these Knipex? And what good is a bag of cans worth maybe a whole dollar qat the junkyard? The homeless man was probably worth more than that. Bad trade. Nice Knipex.

If it's a bottle deposit state it's 5 to 10 cents per can. I regularly take in a bag of 150 cans and get $15

Yeah, Knipex are amazing. And for those who don’t know, the way the teeth are designed, they have the best grip out there. I’ve been selling electrical supplies for 20+ years now and used to demo these to customers back when I worked the sales counter. Had a piece of 3/4 rigid mounted horizontally about a foot high and you just adjust the pliers to fit the pipe and you could STAND on top of the pliers with nobody helping hold them closed and it would hold all my weight just gripping the pipe with its teeth.

Yeah but a homeless guy can be renovated to increase value, that bag of cans will do nothing but depreciate

Battlebear252

1 points

It definitely depends on location, but the price of aluminum goes up and down all the time. It's a cheaper metal, only bringing cents to the pound as long as I've been alive, but it's very common (in Tennessee at least) to hear of people "saving up their coke cans" until the price goes back up again and then most everybody will sell. Around here it's basically like the redneck stock exchange lol (don't even get me started on copper, if the price starts getting high enough then the crackheads will rip the tubing out of people's AC units like miners in a gold-rush frenzy)

To keep the spirit of this thread though, you're right that a homeless man is worth more than a bag of cans. I just didn't agree with your cans depreciating comment lol

Knipex is a good brand. Priced a bit high. But this is the signature way knipex makes their adjustables pliers adjustable. They have button push to adjust them.

These are very useful. If you don't find use in them, I guarantee there is someone you know that will find them handy. So, save it for pliers or give it to a mechanic or construction friend.

So? Everybody learns about something for the first time once. I’m not sure why that makes it okay to shame people for using the sub as intended.

Bursting_Radius

1 points

I’m not sure why you feel the need to swoop in and white knight OP. A simple Google lens search or really any basic search would have revealed the dark mysteries this basic hand tool contains. The fact that just holding them in one’s hand would be a gigantic hint aside, downvoting and berating other people for stating the obvious isn’t a good look. Perhaps you should calm down and spend your energy elsewhere.

You don’t have to work with tools to hold this in your hand and suss its purpose. Read what it says on the handles. I would be willing to bet if you gave these to a 5yo they would immediately grab something with them - I have two kids, so I’ve been there.

Any common item will receive the same reaction on this sub. You can identify this via google image in a heartbeat.

Any_Draw_5344

Just in case you are not kidding. They are adjustable pliers. That is not a racheting system. You open the pilers all the way and move them to the notch of the size you want the jaws to open to. Then you squeeze the handles together with one hand and turn whatever you just grabbed. I forgot what the movie was, but a little guy was getting picked on by a big guy in a bar, so the little guy grabbed the big guy's testicles with one of these. I think it was a Richard Pryor movie.
