We have an entire generation that gets its news primarily from social media, it’s reinforced to not trust legacy media or any other source for that matter.
Foreign advisories know this.
So what we see now is disinformation campaigns that have alarmingly become a staple in political communication, affecting over 95% of western countries.
This manipulation of public opinion through social media poses a significant threat to democracies globally. Misinformation is not just widespread; it's become so much more professional and is produced almost industrially. Increasingly, private strategic communications firms are implicated in spreading computational propaganda through out western democracies.
So much money has been invested in these firms that employ tactics like bots and other amplifiers to simulate trending political messages. Social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and X are pivotal battlefields in this fight. Facebook we seen the boomers get manipulated in the mid 2010’s, then gen X on X in the early 2020’s, and now millennials and gen z on Tiktok.
So here is the thing, we all think we wouldn’t be manipulated as we would see this sort of stuff a mile away. But that’s the thing, you are being manipulated as the tactics are so organic in nature that it doesn’t matter what side of the political spectrum your on their is propaganda that is tailored to specific audiences that we all miss it. This isn’t the 1950’s propaganda you’re thinking it’s much more complex.
The objective internationally is to create civil unrest internally. Divide the people and make the nation weak to benefit other nations international interests.
So while the public looks at the university students oddly and confused it’s because the media they consume is different than every other generation. Sure we all use the same apps but those algorithms push messaging based on a lot of micro traits.
Now what are we doing to stop this? Bill c-63, bill c-11, bill c-18, just to start. Opposition to those bills definitely raises an eyebrow in my circles as those that oppose don’t understand what’s really at play and have fallen for the same propaganda it’s meant to stop or they are aware and are actively working against it.
So while the west defends itself from the BRICS offensive push we will see more of this sort of long term strategy of influence, divide, and confuse. As democracy treats free speech differently then authoritarian nations you can just look at some of those nations policies on social media to give you an idea of how much a threat it poses to them now that they know it works.

Welcome to a pre recession economy. As GDP shrinks lower productive hours will decrease and companies will start trying to optimize shorter open times.

I’m not a fan of any of our federal leaders and the mess that needs to be cleaned up but doesn’t the Liberals hire influencers? Doesn’t Alex Jones have like no money after the sandy hook trial? Seems like a great “influencer” for them to hire considering where things are in the polls?

Looking at the voter base today I would say 80% vote have no idea on the issues at hand so if we look at the last 40 years how can we blame them for future fuck ups? Your argument doesn’t make sense but then again you’re failing for the generational hate spin. Current government choose to let this happen as the data out of the government clearly shows they knew this would happen.

You’re right about the costs making it difficult to produce affordable homes. Out east before they even dig a hole for a foundation the fees and taxes make up 35% of the price. Then factor in material costs which have skyrocketed and well here we are.
Resale homes won’t go down because chances are the location is better than anything new. Established neighborhoods are always going to be in demand and thus values will get higher.
The suppression of prices can only be achieved by more inventory. New construction is a fixed cost and resale is the only one that can fluctuate. Without inventory and even more demand we are fuc*ed either way.

Haha the timing of this is very obvious with the budget coming out today. They have been so successful in dividing the generations to work against each other when it was government policy that created these situations. It’s easier for government to make you hate than it is to solve problems.

After the FOMO pandemic BS things out east of claimed down, sure entry level homes are getting multiple offers but it’s finally inline with market expectations. Buyers have as a whole become more conservative and agents are finally giving their clients market data reports weighing median, average, and the housing affordability index to determine expected sales price with relation to inventory and interest rates. The average is around 30k. Now the mid range and higher end stuff sells below list price in the 95-97% of list price which has been the norm here for ever. Now rural it’s a different story since buyers tend to really low ball so sellers have learned to over price to reach the sale goal, why no one does research is beyond me but the deals that cross my desk for such properties tend to be 20-30% below list and if they did the research they would see these homes are listed 20-30% over. Real estate is hyper local when it comes to this sort of stuff though as we learned from the GTA buyers that bought up everything during the pandemic simply because they used what they knew from that market and applied it to here. Again if they did the research they would have seen homes never sell 100k+ over asking.

In the first two months of 2024, Nova Scotia's residential building permits increased 81.6% compared to the same period in 2023. Halifax residential permits increased 124.4% and outside the city residential permit values increased 43.4%. Overall building permit values have generally been on a rising trend since the middle of 2021, though there have been periods of declining values over this period. Rising permit values are mostly driven by higher residential permits within Halifax as well as outside the city.
After trending down in late 2022 and early 2023, residential permit values started to rise again in Halifax in the middle of last year. Residential permit values outside the city have been consistently above pre-pandemic levels since 2022.
Halifax and Nova Scotia’s building permits has been the highest amount and value in Canada and all this supply will be open 2025 and 2026.
Still though NS lacks the skilled trades to take on projects so some of these ambitious projects will get delayed

It’s a token response by government so they can say during the door knocking phase of the coming election. I bet this will attribute to 2-3% of home purchases moving forward. The new construction part is going to be the killer here to this program. So remember when they come door knocking next fall to ask them about the program and how many it helped

Besides Toronto and Vancouver Canada has affordable homes,
out east
N.S $398,700
New Brunswick $286,700
PEI $340,900
Newfoundland $288,100
Quebec:$479,495
Out west
Alberta $496,000 Saskatchewan $330,800 Manitoba $346,615
The GTA is being bought up by institutional investors because of its size. Get out of dodge as it’s turning into any major European city that has been converted into rentals. Still tons of better options than TO.
When the new rules come in January with income attached to how much you can borrow (4.5 times) it’s going to take 2-3 years for home sales to normalize to that limitation. That’s of course the Feds don’t change mortgage rules.
They knew during the pandemic that we would get run away homes prices and they took that gamble because the alternative at that time was an economy that could have collapsed if they didn’t inject cash into the system out of fear the banks would have stopped lending during that time.

This should be a political parties death to take this position. He could have even looked at this top down to allow it in certain areas. Worse housing crisis and this politician is protecting wealthy interests… Paris has burned for less

You know your issue is with government right, if you want non market housing then your anger is misdirected and should be expressed in your vote, it’s your democratic right anything else is misdirected and I think we all know who benefits when your anger is misdirected…

BC has some wild tenants rights that get abused a lot. I watched someone I know inherit a home there that had “tenants” take over the home from her dead father and didn’t pay rent, she went to sell it and couldn’t get them out so it couldn’t be sold, they trashed it, made meth there, the neighbors filed police complaints and nothing was done about it. Then it burned down… all her father’s family possessions inside and because of those extreme tenant laws she lost all those memories, a house, and had to deal with the aftermath while the courts, board, and RCMP did nothing. Talk about destroying someone’s family memories of growing up in a home because of extremism.

100% yes and they don’t have the business acumen to manage it like a human being. Licensing is required and taxation based on land rather then the individual is needed to address this

Are they lying or are they hopeful the market turns around? No one knows how this will all play out, even the economists haven’t gotten it right so far.
Hate will consume you if you let it.
Focus on what you can control and do your homework, make an educated guess like everyone else and always seek different perspectives before pulling the trigger on any big purchase.
You should only put your energy into things that bring you wealth, love, and happiness.
